5 有一个名叫阿纳尼亚的人，和他的妻子萨菲拉卖掉了财产。 2 但他从价款中私自留下了一部分，把一部分拿来放在使徒们的脚前；他的妻子也知道这事。
3 彼得就说：“阿纳尼亚，为什么撒旦充满了你的心，使你对圣灵说谎，从田产的价款中私自留下一些呢？ 4 田产留着没卖[a]的时候，难道不属于你的吗？卖了以后，价款难道不也是由你做主吗？你心里为什么存有这种念头呢？你不是对人说谎，而是对神说谎了。” 5 阿纳尼亚听见这话，就仆倒断了气；所有听到这事的人都大为恐惧。 6 有几个年轻人站起来，把他的尸体[b]裹好，抬出去埋葬了。
7 隔了大约三个小时，阿纳尼亚的妻子进来，还不知道所发生的事。 8 彼得问她：“告诉我，你们卖田产的钱，是不是这么多？”
她说：“是的，就这么多。”

使徒们再次受审
这时，大祭司和与他在一起的人来了，他们召集了议会，就是以色列子民长老的全体议会，然后派人到监狱里，要把使徒们带来。 22 但差役们到了监狱里，却找不到他们，就回去报告， 23 说：“我们看见监狱被关得极其稳妥，卫兵都站在各个门口，可是打开那些门，里面却找不到任何人。” 24 当[h]圣殿的守卫长[i]和祭司长们听到这些话的时候，就对使徒们的事感到困惑，不知道这事会如何发展。
25 这时，有人来向他们报告说：“看，你们关在监狱里的那些人，正站在圣殿里教导民众呢！” 26 于是守卫长与差役们一起去把使徒们带来，并没有用暴力，因为怕民众用石头砸他们。 27 他们把使徒们带来后，叫他们站在议会当中。大祭司质问他们， 28 说：“我们不是严厉地吩咐你们，不可奉这个人的名教导人吗？可是看哪，你们把你们的教导传遍了耶路撒冷，又想把这个人的血归到我们身上。”
29 彼得和使徒们回答说：“我们必须顺从神过于顺从人。 30 你们挂在木头上杀害的耶稣，我们祖先的神已经使他复活了。 31 神把这一位高举在自己右边做元首、做救主，为了将悔改的心赐给以色列，使罪得赦免。 32 我们就是这些事的见证人。神所赐给那些顺从他之人的圣灵也一同做见证。”
迦玛列的建议
33 议会的人听了，勃然大怒[j]，就想要杀了他们。 34 但有一个名叫迦玛列的法利赛人，是全体民众所尊敬的律法教师，在议会中站了起来，下令把使徒们[k]暂时带到外面去， 35 就对大家说：“各位以色列人哪，如何处置这些人，你们应当谨慎。 36 因为这些日子之前，提乌达起来说自己是某某人物，跟从他的人数约有四百。这人被杀了以后，所有信从他的人都四散了，归于无有。 37 这人以后，在户口登记期间又有个加利利人犹大起来，拉拢民众[l]跟随他。他也死了，所有信从他的人也都四散了。 38 现在我告诉你们：不要管这些人，由他们去吧！因为这计划或这行为，如果是出于人，就会被拆毁； 39 但如果是出于神，你们就不能拆毁他们，恐怕你们反而被看做是与神作对了。”于是议会的人被迦玛列说服了， 40 就叫来使徒们，鞭打了以后，吩咐他们不可再奉耶稣的名讲说，然后把他们释放了。 41 这样使徒们就快快乐乐地离开了议会，因为算是配得上为这名受凌辱。 42 他们每天在圣殿和各家各户不住地教导人，传福音说耶稣是基督。

Ananias and Sapphira
5 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and (A)kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife’s [a]full knowledge. And bringing a portion of it, he (B)laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has (C)Satan filled your heart to lie (D)to the Holy Spirit and to (E)keep back some of the price of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not [b]under your authority? Why is it that you laid this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but (F)to God.” 5 And as he heard these words, Ananias (G)fell down and breathed his last; and (H)great fear came over all who heard. 6 And the young men rose up and (I)wrapped him up, and after carrying him out, they buried him.
7 Now there was an interval of about three hours, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter responded to her, “Tell me whether you were paid (J)this much for the land?” And she said, “Yes, that much.” 9 Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to (K)put (L)the Spirit of the [c]Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.” 10 And immediately she (M)fell at his feet and breathed her last, and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 And (N)great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard these things.
12 Now [d]at the hands of the apostles many (O)signs and wonders were happening among the people, and they were all with one accord in (P)Solomon’s Portico. 13 But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however, (Q)the people were holding them in high esteem. 14 And more than ever (R)believers in the Lord were (S)added to their number, multitudes of men and women, 15 to such an extent that they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, so that when Peter came by (T)at least his shadow might fall on any one of them. 16 Also the multitude from the cities in the vicinity of Jerusalem were coming together, bringing people who were sick [e]or afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all being healed.
The Apostles Jailed and Freed
17 But the high priest rose up and those with him (that is (U)the sect of (V)the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy. 18 And they laid hands on the apostles and (W)put them in a public jail. 19 But during the night (X)an angel of the [f]Lord opened the doors of the prison, and taking them out, he said, 20 “Go, stand and [g]speak to the people in the temple [h](Y)the whole message of this Life.” 21 Upon hearing this, they entered into the temple (Z)about daybreak and began to teach.
Now when (AA)the high priest and those with him came, they called (AB)the Sanhedrin together, even all the Council of the sons of Israel, and sent orders to the jailhouse for them to be brought. 22 But (AC)the officers who came did not find them in the prison, and they returned and reported back, 23 saying, “We found the jailhouse locked quite securely and the guards standing at the doors, but we opened it and found no one inside.” 24 Now when (AD)the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what [i]would come of this. 25 But someone came and reported to them, “The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!” 26 Then (AE)the captain went along with (AF)the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for (AG)they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).
27 And when they had brought them, they stood them [j]before (AH)the Sanhedrin. And the high priest questioned them, 28 saying, “We (AI)strictly commanded you not to continue teaching in this name, and [k]yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and (AJ)intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” 29 But Peter and the apostles answered and said, “(AK)We must obey God rather than men. 30 (AL)The God of our fathers (AM)raised up Jesus, [l]whom you (AN)put to death by hanging Him on a tree. 31 (AO)This One God exalted [m]to His right hand as [n]a (AP)Leader and a (AQ)Savior, to grant (AR)repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are (AS)witnesses [o]of these things, and (AT)so is the Holy Spirit, whom God gave to those who obey Him.”
Gamaliel’s Counsel
33 But when they heard this, they became (AU)furious and intended to kill them. 34 But a Pharisee named (AV)Gamaliel, a (AW)teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in (AX)the Sanhedrin and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. 35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men. 36 For some time ago Theudas rose up, (AY)claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. [p]But he was killed, and all who [q]were following him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of (AZ)the census and drew away people after him. He too perished, and all those who [r]were following him were scattered. 38 So in the present case, I also say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or [s]action (BA)is of men, it will be overthrown; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or you may even be found (BB)fighting against God.”
40 So they [t]followed his advice. And after calling the apostles in and (BC)beating them, they commanded them not to [u]speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them. 41 So they went on their way from the presence of the (BD)Sanhedrin, (BE)rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame (BF)for the Name. 42 (BG)And every day, in the temple and [v]from house to house, they did not cease teaching and (BH)proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the [w]Christ.

2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.
14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,
23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.
34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:
39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Peter Condemns Ananias and Sapphira
5 Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property. 2 But they agreed to cheat and keep some of the money for themselves.
So when Ananias took the rest of the money to the apostles, 3 Peter said, “Why has Satan made you keep back some of the money from the sale of the property? Why have you lied to the Holy Spirit? 4 The property was yours before you sold it, and even after you sold it, the money was still yours. What made you do such a thing? You didn't lie to people. You lied to God!”
5 (A) As soon as Ananias heard this, he dropped dead, and everyone who heard about it was frightened. 6 Some young men came in and wrapped up his body. Then they took it out and buried it.
7 Three hours later Sapphira came in, but she did not know what had happened to her husband. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, did you sell the property for this amount?”
“Yes,” she answered, “that's the amount.”
9 Then Peter said, “Why did the two of you agree to test the Lord's Spirit? The men who buried Ananias are by the door, and they will carry you out!” 10 At once she fell at Peter's feet and died.
When the young men came back in, they found Sapphira lying there dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 The church members were afraid, and so was everyone else who heard what had happened.
Peter's Unusual Power
12 The apostles worked many miracles and wonders among the people. All of the Lord's followers often met in the part of the temple known as Solomon's Porch.[a] 13 No one outside their group dared join them, even though everyone liked them very much.
14 Many men and women started having faith in the Lord. 15 Then sick people were brought out to the road and placed on mats. It was hoped that Peter would walk by, and his shadow would fall on them and heal them. 16 A lot of people living in the towns near Jerusalem brought those who were sick or troubled by evil spirits, and they were all healed.
Trouble for the Apostles
17 The high priest and all the other Sadducees who were with him became jealous. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the city jail. 19 But that night an angel from the Lord opened the doors of the jail and led the apostles out. The angel said, 20 “Go to the temple and tell the people everything about this new life.” 21 So they went into the temple before sunrise and started teaching.
The high priest and his men called together their council, which included all of Israel's leaders. Then they ordered the apostles to be brought to them from the jail. 22 The temple police who were sent to the jail did not find the apostles. They returned and said, 23 “We found the jail locked tight and the guards standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors and went in, we didn't find anyone there.” 24 The captain of the temple police and the chief priests listened to their report, but they did not know what to think about it.
25 Just then someone came in and said, “Now those men you put in jail are in the temple, teaching the people!” 26 The captain went with some of the temple police and brought the apostles back. But they did not use force. They were afraid that the people might start throwing stones at them.
27 When the apostles were brought before the council, the high priest said to them, 28 (B) “We told you plainly not to teach in the name of Jesus. But look what you have done! You have been teaching all over Jerusalem, and you are trying to blame us for his death.”
29 Peter and the apostles replied:
We don't obey people. We obey God. 30 You killed Jesus by nailing him to a cross. But the God our ancestors worshiped raised him to life 31 and made him our Leader and Savior. Then God gave him a place at his right side,[b] so that the people of Israel would turn back to him and be forgiven. 32 We are here to tell you about all this, and so is the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to everyone who obeys God.
33 When the council members heard this, they became so angry they wanted to kill the apostles. 34 But one of the members was the Pharisee Gamaliel, a highly respected teacher. He ordered the apostles to be taken out of the room for a little while. 35 Then he said to the council:
Men of Israel, be careful what you do with these men. 36 Not long ago Theudas claimed to be someone important, and about 400 men joined him. But he was killed, and all his followers were scattered. That was the end of that.
37 Later, when the people of our nation were being counted, Judas from Galilee showed up. A lot of people followed him, but he was killed, and all his followers were scattered.
38 So I advise you to stay away from these men. Leave them alone. If what they are planning is something of their own doing, it will fail. 39 (C) But if God is behind it, you cannot stop it anyway, unless you want to fight against God.
The council members agreed with what he said, 40 and they called the apostles back in. They had them beaten with a whip and warned them not to speak in the name of Jesus. Then they let them go.
41 The apostles left the council and were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer for the sake of Jesus. 42 Every day they spent time in the temple and in one home after another. They never stopped teaching and telling the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
