42 And daily (A)in the temple, and in every house, (B)they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

Seven Chosen to Serve

Now in those days, (C)when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the (D)Hellenists,[a] because their widows were neglected (E)in the daily distribution. Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, (F)“It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. Therefore, brethren, (G)seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this (H)business; but we (I)will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, (J)a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and (K)Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and (L)Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, whom they set before the apostles; and (M)when they had prayed, (N)they laid hands on them.

Then (O)the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many (P)of the priests were obedient to the faith.

42 every day also in the temple, and in every house, they were not ceasing teaching and proclaiming good news -- Jesus the Christ.

And in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came a murmuring of the Hellenists at the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministration,

and the twelve, having called near the multitude of the disciples, said, `It is not pleasing that we, having left the word of God, do minister at tables;

look out, therefore, brethren, seven men of you who are well testified of, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may set over this necessity,

and we to prayer, and to the ministration of the word, will give ourselves continually.'

And the thing was pleasing before all the multitude, and they did choose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,

whom they did set before the apostles, and they, having prayed, laid on them [their] hands.

And the word of God did increase, and the number of the disciples did multiply in Jerusalem exceedingly; a great multitude also of the priests were obedient to the faith.

42 (A)And every day, in the temple and [a]from house to house, they did not stop teaching and (B)preaching the good news of Jesus as the [b]Christ.

Choosing of the Seven

Now [c]at this time, as the (C)disciples were (D)increasing in number, a complaint developed on the part of the [d](E)Hellenistic Jews against the native (F)Hebrews, because their (G)widows were being overlooked in (H)the daily serving of food. So the twelve summoned the [e]congregation of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables. Instead, (I)brothers and sisters, select from among you seven men of good reputation, (J)full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task. But we will (K)devote ourselves to prayer and to the [f]ministry of the word.” The [g]announcement found approval with the whole [h]congregation; and they chose (L)Stephen, a man (M)full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and (N)Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and [i]Nicolas, a [j](O)proselyte from (P)Antioch. And they brought these men before the apostles; and after (Q)praying, they (R)laid their hands on them.

(S)The word of God kept spreading; and (T)the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to (U)the faith.
