¹⁸ arrested the apostles and put them in the public prison.^(A)

³ So they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening.^(A)

¹² “But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name.^(A)

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Beware, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.^(A)

³⁶ Others suffered mocking and flogging and even chains and imprisonment.^(A)

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? I am talking like a madman—I am a better one: with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless floggings, and often near death.^(A)

²³ After they had given them a severe flogging, they threw them into prison and ordered the jailer to keep them securely.^{(A) 24} Following these instructions, he put them in the innermost cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.^(B)

²⁵ About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.^{(C) 26} Suddenly there was an earthquake so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken, and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened.^{(D) 27} When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, since he supposed that the prisoners had escaped.^(E)

⁵ While Peter was kept in prison, the church prayed fervently to God for him.^(A)

Peter Delivered from Prison

⁶ The very night before Herod was going to bring him out, Peter, bound with two chains, was sleeping between two soldiers, while guards in front of the door were keeping watch over the prison.^{(B) 7} Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his wrists.^(C)

³ But Saul was ravaging the church by entering house after house; dragging off both men and women, he committed them to prison.^(A)
