32 Now the multitude of those who believed (A)were of one heart and one soul; (B)neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 And with (C)great power the apostles gave (D)witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And (E)great grace was upon them all. 34 Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; (F)for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 (G)and laid them at the apostles’ feet; (H)and they distributed to each as anyone had need.
36 And [a]Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of [b]Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus, 37 (I)having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
Lying to the Holy Spirit
5 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 (J)But Peter said, “Ananias, why has (K)Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”
5 Then Ananias, hearing these words, (L)fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. 6 And the young men arose and (M)wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him.
7 Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?”
She said, “Yes, for so much.”
9 Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together (N)to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 (O)Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband. 11 (P)So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.

5 ανηρ δε τις ανανιας ονοματι συν σαπφειρη τη γυναικι αυτου επωλησεν κτημα
2 και ενοσφισατο απο της τιμης συνειδυιας και της γυναικος αυτου και ενεγκας μερος τι παρα τους ποδας των αποστολων εθηκεν
3 ειπεν δε πετρος ανανια διατι επληρωσεν ο σατανας την καρδιαν σου ψευσασθαι σε το πνευμα το αγιον και νοσφισασθαι απο της τιμης του χωριου
4 ουχι μενον σοι εμενεν και πραθεν εν τη ση εξουσια υπηρχεν τι οτι εθου εν τη καρδια σου το πραγμα τουτο ουκ εψευσω ανθρωποις αλλα τω θεω
5 ακουων δε ανανιας τους λογους τουτους πεσων εξεψυξεν και εγενετο φοβος μεγας επι παντας τους ακουοντας ταυτα
6 ανασταντες δε οι νεωτεροι συνεστειλαν αυτον και εξενεγκαντες εθαψαν
7 εγενετο δε ως ωρων τριων διαστημα και η γυνη αυτου μη ειδυια το γεγονος εισηλθεν
8 απεκριθη δε αυτη ο πετρος ειπε μοι ει τοσουτου το χωριον απεδοσθε η δε ειπεν ναι τοσουτου
9 ο δε πετρος ειπεν προς αυτην τι οτι συνεφωνηθη υμιν πειρασαι το πνευμα κυριου ιδου οι ποδες των θαψαντων τον ανδρα σου επι τη θυρα και εξοισουσιν σε
10 επεσεν δε παραχρημα παρα τους ποδας αυτου και εξεψυξεν εισελθοντες δε οι νεανισκοι ευρον αυτην νεκραν και εξενεγκαντες εθαψαν προς τον ανδρα αυτης
11 και εγενετο φοβος μεγας εφ ολην την εκκλησιαν και επι παντας τους ακουοντας ταυτα

32 and of the multitude of those who did believe the heart and the soul was one, and not one was saying that anything of the things he had was his own, but all things were to them in common.
33 And with great power were the apostles giving the testimony to the rising again of the Lord Jesus, great grace also was on them all,
34 for there was not any one among them who did lack, for as many as were possessors of fields, or houses, selling [them], were bringing the prices of the thing sold,
35 and were laying them at the feet of the apostles, and distribution was being made to each according as any one had need.
36 And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles Barnabas -- which is, having been interpreted, Son of Comfort -- a Levite, of Cyprus by birth,
37 a field being his, having sold [it], brought the money and laid [it] at the feet of the apostles.
5 And a certain man, Ananias by name, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2 and did keep back of the price -- his wife also knowing -- and having brought a certain part, at the feet of the apostles he laid [it].
3 And Peter said, `Ananias, wherefore did the Adversary fill thy heart, for thee to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back of the price of the place?
4 while it remained, did it not remain thine? and having been sold, in thy authority was it not? why [is] it that thou didst put in thy heart this thing? thou didst not lie to men, but to God;'
5 and Ananias hearing these words, having fallen down, did expire, and great fear came upon all who heard these things,
6 and having risen, the younger men wound him up, and having carried forth, they buried [him].
7 And it came to pass, about three hours after, that his wife, not knowing what hath happened, came in,
8 and Peter answered her, `Tell me if for so much ye sold the place;' and she said, `Yes, for so much.'
9 And Peter said unto her, `How was it agreed by you, to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? lo, the feet of those who did bury thy husband [are] at the door, and they shall carry thee forth;'
10 and she fell down presently at his feet, and expired, and the young men having come in, found her dead, and having carried forth, they buried [her] by her husband;
11 and great fear came upon all the assembly, and upon all who heard these things.

32 And the [a]congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them [b]claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but (A)all things were common property to them. 33 And (B)with great power the apostles were giving (C)testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and abundant grace was upon them all. 34 For there was not a needy person among them, for all who were owners of land or houses (D)would sell them and bring the [c]proceeds of the sales 35 and (E)lay them at the apostles’ feet, and they would be (F)distributed to each to the extent that any had need.
36 Now Joseph, a Levite of (G)Cyprian birth, who was also called (H)Barnabas by the apostles (which translated means Son of [d](I)Encouragement), 37 [e]owned a tract of land. So he sold it, and brought the money and (J)laid it at the apostles’ feet.
Fate of Ananias and Sapphira
5 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and (K)kept back some of the [f]proceeds for himself, with his wife’s [g]full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he (L)laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has (M)Satan filled your heart to lie (N)to the Holy Spirit and to (O)keep back some of the [h]proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not [i]under your control? Why is it that you have [j]conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but (P)to God.” 5 And as he heard these words, Ananias (Q)collapsed and [k]died; and (R)great fear came over all who heard about it. 6 The young men got up and (S)covered him up, and after carrying him out, they buried him.
7 Now an interval of about three hours elapsed, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter responded to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land (T)for [l]this price?” And she said, “Yes, for [m]that price.” 9 Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to (U)put (V)the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.” 10 And immediately she (W)collapsed at his feet and [n]died; and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 And (X)great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard about these things.
