² And a man ^(A)lame from birth was being carried, ^(B)whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate ^(C)to ask alms of those entering the temple.

Paul and Barnabas at Lystra

⁸ Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was ^(A)crippled from birth and had never walked.

⁸ The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, ^(A)“Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?”

²⁰ And at his gate ^(A)was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores,

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, ^(A)your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.

Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar

^35 (A)As he drew near to Jericho, ^(B)a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.

⁴ And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms ^(A)have ascended ^(B)as a memorial before God.

^9 (A)The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet ^(B)the world did not know him. ¹¹ He came to ^(C)his own,^[a] and ^(D)his own people^{[b] (E)}did not receive him. ¹² But to all who did receive him, ^(F)who believed in his name, ^(G)he gave the right ^(H)to become ^(I)children of God, ¹³ who ^(J)were born, ^(K)not of blood ^(L)nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

¹⁴ And ^(M)the Word ^(N)became flesh and ^(O)dwelt among us, ^(P)and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son^[c] from the Father, full of ^(Q)grace and ^(R)truth. ¹⁵ (^(S)John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ^(T)‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) ¹⁶ For from ^(U)his fullness we have all received, ^(V)grace upon grace.^{[d] 17} For ^(W)the law was given through Moses; ^(X)grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. ^18 (Y)No one has ever seen God; ^(Z)the only God,^[e] who is at the Father's side,^{[f] (AA)}he has made him known.

The Testimony of John the Baptist

¹⁹ And this is the ^(AB)testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, ^(AC)“Who are you?” ^20 (AD)He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” ²¹ And they asked him, “What then? ^(AE)Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you ^(AF)the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” ²² So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” ²³ He said, “I am ^(AG)the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight^[g] the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

²⁴ (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) ²⁵ They asked him, ^(AH)“Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” ²⁶ John answered them, ^(AI)“I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, ²⁷ even ^(AJ)he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” ²⁸ These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Behold, the Lamb of God

²⁹ The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, ^(AK)the Lamb of God, who ^(AL)takes away the sin ^(AM)of the world! ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, ^(AN)‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’

²² For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.
