²⁰ When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.

¹² remember ^(A)that you were at that time separated from Christ, ^(B)alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to ^(C)the covenants of promise, ^(D)having no hope and without God in the world.

²⁴ And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but ^(A)he was asleep. ²⁵ And they went and woke him, saying, ^(B)“Save us, Lord; we are perishing.”

¹³ But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, ^(A)that you may not grieve as others do ^(B)who have no hope.

²⁵ Three times I was ^(A)beaten with rods. ^(B)Once I was stoned. Three times I ^(C)was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;

²⁹ “Immediately after ^(A)the tribulation of those days ^(B)the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and ^(C)the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

¹¹ Then they said to him, “What shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?” For the sea grew more and more tempestuous. ¹² He said to them, “Pick me up and hurl me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for you, ^(A)for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you.” ¹³ Nevertheless, the men rowed hard^[a] to get back to dry land, but they could not, for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them. ¹⁴ Therefore they called out to the Lord, “O Lord, let us not perish for this man's life, and ^(B)lay not on us innocent blood, ^(C)for you, O Lord, have done as it pleased you.”

⁴ But ^(A)the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship threatened ^(B)to break up.

¹¹ Then he said to me, ^(A)“Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and ^(B)our hope is lost; ^(C)we are indeed cut off.’
