⁹ The Jews also joined in the charge, affirming that all these things were so.

^44 (A)You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. ^(B)He was a murderer from the beginning, and ^(C)does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. ^(D)When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

^27 (A)Her princes in her midst are like wolves ^(B)tearing the prey, ^(C)shedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain. ²⁸ And ^(D)her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, ^(E)seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken. ²⁹ The people of the land ^(F)have practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy, and ^(G)have extorted from the sojourner without justice.
