35 In all things (A)I have shown you that (B)by working hard in this way we must (C)help the weak and (D)remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed (E)to give than to receive.’

The Cheerful Giver

The point is this: (A)whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully[a] will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, (B)not reluctantly or under compulsion, for (C)God loves a cheerful giver. And (D)God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency[b] in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written,

(E)“He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor;
    his righteousness endures forever.”

10 He who supplies (F)seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and (G)increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 (H)You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which (I)through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only supplying (J)the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.

The Parable of the Great Banquet

12 He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give (A)a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers[a] or your relatives or rich neighbors, (B)lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, (C)invite (D)the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid (E)at (F)the resurrection of the just.”

  1. Luke 14:12 Or your brothers and sisters

Is it not (A)to share your bread with the hungry
    and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover him,
    (B)and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
(C)Then shall your light break forth like the dawn,
    (D)and your healing shall spring up speedily;
(E)your righteousness shall go before you;
    (F)the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
    you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’
If you take away (G)the yoke from your midst,
    (H)the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
10 (I)if you pour yourself out for the hungry
    and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
(J)then shall your light rise in the darkness
    and your gloom be as the noonday.
11 And the Lord will guide you continually
    and satisfy your desire in scorched places
    and make your bones strong;
and you shall be (K)like a watered garden,
    like a spring of water,
    whose waters do not fail.
12 (L)And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;
    you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
you shall be called the repairer of the breach,
    the restorer of streets to dwell in.
