⁴⁵ And ^(A)they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

¹⁷ But ^(A)if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet ^(B)closes his heart against him, ^(C)how does God's love abide in him?

¹⁸ They are to do good, ^(A)to be rich in good works, to be generous and ^(B)ready to share, ¹⁹ thus ^(C)storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may ^(D)take hold of ^(E)that which is truly life.

Faith Without Works Is Dead

¹⁴ What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith ^(A)but does not have works? Can that faith save him? ^15 (B)If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, ^16 (C)and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good^[a] is that?

^34 (A)There was not a needy person among them, for ^(B)as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold ³⁵ and ^(C)laid it at the apostles' feet, and ^(D)it was distributed to each as any had need. ³⁶ Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means ^(E)son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, ³⁷ sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and ^(F)laid it at the apostles' feet.

Ananias and Sapphira

5 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, ² and with his wife's knowledge ^(G)he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and ^(H)laid it at the apostles' feet.

²² When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. ^(A)Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have ^(B)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

⁹ As it is written,

²⁹ So the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, ^(A)to send relief to ^(B)the brothers^[a] living in Judea.
