13 But others (A)mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”

Peter's Sermon at Pentecost

14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, (B)since it is only the third hour of the day.[a] 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:

17 (C)“‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
(D)that I will pour out my Spirit (E)on all flesh,
and your sons and (F)your daughters shall prophesy,
    and your young men shall see visions,
    and your old men shall dream dreams;
18 even on my male servants and female servants
    in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and (G)they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in the heavens above
    and signs on the earth below,
    blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
20 (H)the sun shall be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood,
    before (I)the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
21 And it shall come to pass that (J)everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, (K)a man attested to you by God (L)with (M)mighty works and wonders and signs that (N)God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus,[b] (O)delivered up according to (P)the definite plan and (Q)foreknowledge of God, (R)you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 (S)God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because (T)it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25 For David says concerning him,

(U)“‘I saw the Lord always before me,
    for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
    my flesh also will dwell (V)in hope.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to (W)Hades,
    (X)or let your (Y)Holy One (Z)see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
    you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’

29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about (AA)the patriarch David (AB)that he both died and (AC)was buried, and (AD)his tomb is with us to this day. 30 (AE)Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that (AF)God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that (AG)he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus (AH)God raised up, (AI)and of that we all are witnesses. 33 (AJ)Being therefore (AK)exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from (AL)the Father (AM)the promise of the Holy Spirit, (AN)he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For (AO)David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,

(AP)“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
35     until I make your enemies your footstool.”’

36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that (AQ)God has made him (AR)both Lord and Christ, this Jesus (AS)whom you crucified.”

37 Now when (AT)they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, (AU)what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, (AV)“Repent and (AW)be baptized every one of you (AX)in the name of Jesus Christ (AY)for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive (AZ)the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For (BA)the promise is for you and (BB)for your children and for all (BC)who are far off, everyone (BD)whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, (BE)“Save yourselves from this (BF)crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and (BG)there were added that day about three thousand souls.

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 And (BH)they devoted themselves to the apostles' (BI)teaching and the (BJ)fellowship, to (BK)the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[c] came upon every soul, and (BL)many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and (BM)had all things in common. 45 And (BN)they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, (BO)attending the temple (BP)together and (BQ)breaking bread in their homes, they received their food (BR)with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and (BS)having favor with all the people. And the Lord (BT)added to their number (BU)day by day those who (BV)were being saved.

The Lame Beggar Healed

Now Peter and John were (BW)going up to the temple at (BX)the hour of prayer, (BY)the ninth hour.[d] And a man (BZ)lame from birth was being carried, (CA)whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate (CB)to ask alms of those entering the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, (CC)“I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. (CD)In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And (CE)leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. And (CF)all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Peter Speaks in Solomon's Portico

11 (CG)While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in (CH)the portico called Solomon's. 12 And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? 13 (CI)The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, (CJ)the God of our fathers, (CK)glorified his servant[e] Jesus, whom (CL)you delivered over and (CM)denied in the presence of Pilate, (CN)when he had decided to release him. 14 But you denied (CO)the Holy and (CP)Righteous One, and (CQ)asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 and you killed (CR)the Author of life, (CS)whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. 16 And (CT)his name—by (CU)faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is (CV)through Jesus[f] has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.

17 “And now, brothers, I know that (CW)you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. 18 But what God (CX)foretold (CY)by the mouth of all the prophets, that (CZ)his Christ would (DA)suffer, he thus fulfilled.
