Priscilla, Aquila and Apollos

¹⁸ Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sisters^(A) and sailed for Syria,^(B) accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila.^(C) Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchreae^(D) because of a vow he had taken.^(E)

²⁴ Take these men, join in their purification rites^(A) and pay their expenses, so that they can have their heads shaved.^(B) Then everyone will know there is no truth in these reports about you, but that you yourself are living in obedience to the law.

¹⁸ “‘Then at the entrance to the tent of meeting, the Nazirite must shave off the hair that symbolizes their dedication.^(A) They are to take the hair and put it in the fire that is under the sacrifice of the fellowship offering.

²⁰ To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews.^(A) To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law),^(B) so as to win those under the law.

16 I commend^(A) to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon^[a][b] of the church in Cenchreae.^(B)

² There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla,^(A) because Claudius^(B) had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them,

⁵ “‘During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, no razor^(A) may be used on their head.^(B) They must be holy until the period of their dedication to the Lord is over; they must let their hair grow long.

⁶ “‘Throughout the period of their dedication to the Lord, the Nazirite must not go near a dead body.^{(C) 7} Even if their own father or mother or brother or sister dies, they must not make themselves ceremonially unclean^(D) on account of them, because the symbol of their dedication to God is on their head. ⁸ Throughout the period of their dedication, they are consecrated to the Lord.

⁹ “‘If someone dies suddenly in the Nazirite’s presence, thus defiling the hair that symbolizes their dedication,^(E) they must shave their head on the seventh day—the day of their cleansing.^(F)

²¹ Then I went to Syria^(A) and Cilicia.^(B)
