18 All this is from God, (A)who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us (B)the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling[a] the world to himself, (C)not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us (D)the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, (E)we are ambassadors for Christ, (F)God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 (G)For our sake he made him to be sin (H)who knew no sin, so that in him we might become (I)the righteousness of God.

Christ Our Advocate

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, (A)we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (B)He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but (C)also for the sins of the whole world.

Redemption Through the Blood of Christ

11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest (D)of the good things that have come,[b] then through (E)the greater and more perfect tent ((F)not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12 he (G)entered (H)once for all into the holy places, not by means of (I)the blood of goats and calves but (J)by means of his own blood, (K)thus securing an eternal redemption. 13 For if (L)the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with (M)the ashes of a heifer, sanctify[c] for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will (N)the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit (O)offered himself without blemish to God, (P)purify our[d] conscience (Q)from dead works (R)to serve the living God.

For (A)it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Consequently, (B)when Christ[a] came into the world, he said,

(C)“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
    but a body have you prepared for me;
in burnt offerings and sin offerings
    you have taken no pleasure.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”

When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in (D)sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, (E)“Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. 10 And by that will (F)we have been sanctified through the offering of (G)the body of Jesus Christ (H)once for all.

11 And every priest stands (I)daily at his service, (J)offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, (K)which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ[b] had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he (L)sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time (M)until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering (N)he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

15 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

16 (O)“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,”

17 then he adds,

(P)“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
