²¹ “Therefore, it is necessary to choose one of the men who have accompanied us during the entire time that the Lord Jesus lived with us, ²² beginning from his baptism by John until the day when he was taken up from us. For he must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

²³ And so they nominated two candidates: Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. ²⁴ Then they prayed, saying, “Lord, you know the hearts of everyone. Show us which one of these two you have chosen ²⁵ to take the place in this apostolic ministry that Judas abandoned to go to his own place.” ²⁶ Then they cast lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias, who was then added to the eleven apostles.
