32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:

(A)“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter
and like a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he opens not his mouth.
33 In his (B)humiliation justice was denied him.
    Who can describe his generation?
For his life is taken away from the earth.”

34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and (C)beginning with this Scripture (D)he told him the good news about Jesus. 36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! (E)What prevents me from being baptized?”[a] 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, (F)the Spirit of the Lord (G)carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.

  1. Acts 8:36 Some manuscripts add all or most of verse 37: And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he replied, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”[a](A)

34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began(B) with that very passage of Scripture(C) and told him the good news(D) about Jesus.

36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”(E) [37] [b] 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away,(F) and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

44 While Peter was still saying these things, (A)the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. 45 And the believers from among (B)the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because (C)the gift of the Holy Spirit (D)was poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 For they were hearing them (E)speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, 47 (F)“Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit (G)just as we have?” 48 And he (H)commanded them (I)to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.
