37 you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, (A)beginning (B)from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed: 38 how (C)God anointed Jesus of Nazareth (D)with the Holy Spirit and with (E)power. He went about doing good and healing all (F)who were oppressed by the devil, (G)for God was with him. 39 And (H)we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. (I)They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, 40 but (J)God raised him on (K)the third day and made him to (L)appear, 41 (M)not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as (N)witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And (O)he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify (P)that he is the one appointed by God to be judge (Q)of the living and the dead. 43 (R)To him (S)all the prophets bear witness that (T)everyone who believes in him receives (U)forgiveness of sins (V)through his name.”

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

44 While Peter was still saying these things, (W)the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. 45 And the believers from among (X)the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because (Y)the gift of the Holy Spirit (Z)was poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 For they were hearing them (AA)speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, 47 (AB)“Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit (AC)just as we have?” 48 And he (AD)commanded them (AE)to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.

37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed(A) Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing(B) all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.(C)

39 “We are witnesses(D) of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross,(E) 40 but God raised him from the dead(F) on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people,(G) but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate(H) and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people(I) and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.(J) 43 All the prophets testify about him(K) that everyone(L) who believes(M) in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”(N)

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on(O) all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter(P) were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out(Q) even on Gentiles.(R) 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[a](S) and praising God.

Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water.(T) They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”(U) 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.(V) Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
