32 Lyssna, ni himlar, jag vill tala,
hör, du jord, orden från
min mun.
2 Som regnet må min lära drypa,
som daggen må mitt tal flöda,
som rikligt regn på grönska,
som regnskurar på gräs.
3 Ty Herrens namn skall jag förkunna,
ge ära åt vår store Gud.
4 Han är Klippan, fullkomliga är hans gärningar,
ty alla hans vägar är rätta.
En trofast Gud utan svek,
rättfärdig och rättvis är han.
5 De har handlat illa mot honom,
de är inte hans barn, utan en skam,
ett förvänt och avogt släkte.
6 Är det så du lönar Herren,
du dåraktiga och ovisa folk?
Är han då ej din Fader som skapade dig,
han som danade och formade dig?
7 Kom ihåg forna dagar.
Ge akt på gångna släktens år.
Fråga din far, han skall berätta för dig,
dina äldste, de skall säga dig det.
8 När den Högste gav arvslotter åt folken,
när han spred ut människors barn,
då utstakade han gränserna för folken
efter antalet av Israels barn.
9 Ty Herrens del är hans folk,
Jakob är hans arvedels lott.
10 Han fann honom i öknens land,
i ödslig, tjutande ödemark.
Han omslöt honom och tog honom i sin vård,
han bevarade honom som sin ögonsten.
11 Liksom en örn väcker upp sitt bo,
och svävar över sina ungar,
så bredde han ut sina vingar och tog emot honom
och bar honom på sina fjädrar.
12 Blott Herren ledde honom,
ingen främmande gud vid hans sida.
13 Han lät honom fara fram över landets höjder
och han fick äta av markens gröda.
Han lät honom suga honung ur hälleberget
och olja ur den hårda klippan.
14 Han gav honom gräddmjölk av kor, söt mjölk av får,
tillsammans med det bästa av lamm,
baggar från Basan och bockar,
det bästa och märgfullaste vete.
Druvors blod drack du, skummande vin.
15 Då blev Jesurun[a] fet och slog bakut.
Du blev fet och tjock och stinn.
Han övergav Gud, sin skapare,
och föraktade sin frälsnings klippa.
16 De retade honom genom främmande gudar,
med vidrigheter väckte de hans vrede.
17 De offrade åt onda andar, som inte är Gud,
åt gudar som de inte kände,
nya gudar som nyss kommit till
och som era fäder ej fruktade.
18 Du övergav Klippan som födde dig.
Du glömde Gud som gav dig livet.
19 Herren såg detta och förkastade dem,
eftersom hans söner och döttrar hade kränkt honom.
20 Han sade: "Jag vill dölja mitt ansikte för dem,
jag vill se vilket slut de får.
Ty de är ett förvänt släkte,
barn utan trohet.
21 De har retat mig med gudar som inte är gudar,
väckt min vrede med sina tomma avgudar.
Därför skall jag reta dem med det som inte är ett folk,
med ett dåraktigt hednafolk skall jag väcka deras förtret.
22 Ty genom min vrede har en eld tänts
och den brinner till dödsrikets djup.
Den förtär jorden med dess gröda
och sätter bergens grundvalar i brand.
23 Jag skall hopa olyckor över dem,
mina pilar skall jag skjuta på dem.
24 Hungersnöd skall drabba dem,
feberglöd förtära dem,
pest som bittert pinar.
Jag skall sända över dem vilddjurs tänder
och gift från ormar som krälar i stoftet.
25 Ute skall svärdet dräpa deras barn,
inne gör skräcken det.
Unga män och jungfrur förgås,
spädbarn och grånade män.
26 Jag skulle säga: Jag vill skingra dem,
utplåna minnet av dem bland människor,
27 om jag inte fruktade hån från fienden,
att deras ovänner skulle misstyda det,
och säga: Vår hand är mäktig,
det var inte Herren som gjorde allt detta."
28 Ty ett rådlöst folk är de,
och förstånd finns ej i dem.
29 Vore de visa skulle de inse detta,
de skulle förstå vilket slut de måste få.
30 Hur kunde en enda jaga tusen framför sig,
två driva tiotusen på flykten, om ej deras Klippa hade sålt dem,
om ej Herren hade utlämnat dem?
31 Ty de andras klippa är ej som vår Klippa,
det kan våra fiender döma om.
32 Ty från Sodoms vinstock är deras vinstock,
och från Gomorras fält.
Deras druvor är giftiga druvor,
deras klasar är beska.
33 Deras vin är ormars etter,
kobrors grymma gift.
34 Sådant ligger förvarat hos mig,
förseglat i mina förrådshus.
35 Min är hämnden och vedergällningen,
sparad till den tid då deras fot skall vackla.
Ty nära är deras olyckas dag,
det som väntar dem kommer med hast.
36 Ty Herren skall ta sig an sitt folks sak,
och förbarma sig över sina tjänare,
när han ser att deras kraft är borta
och att ingen finns kvar, varken slav eller fri.
37 Då skall han fråga: Var är deras gudar,
klippan de tog sin tillflykt till,
38 de som åt deras slaktoffers fett
och drack deras drickoffers vin?
Må de stå upp och hjälpa er,
må de vara ert beskydd.
39 Se nu, jag, jag är Gud,
det finns ingen Gud vid sidan av mig.
Jag dödar och jag gör levande,
jag slår och jag helar.
Ingen kan rädda ur min hand.
40 Se, jag lyfter min hand upp mot himlen,
och säger: Så sant jag lever för evigt:
41 När jag har vässat mitt flammande svärd
och min hand skipar rätt,
skall jag ta hämnd på mina ovänner
och vedergälla dem som hatar mig.
42 Jag skall göra mina pilar berusade av blod,
mitt svärd skall mätta sig av kött,
av de slagnas och fångnas blod,
av fiendehövdingars huvuden.
43 Jubla, ni hednafolk med hans folk,
ty han hämnas sina tjänares blod.
Han tar hämnd på sina ovänner
och bringar försoning för sitt land, sitt folk."
44 Mose kom tillsammans med Hosea,[b] Nuns son, och talade hela denna sångs ord inför folket.
45 Och när Mose hade talat alla dessa ord till hela Israel, 46 sade han till dem: "Lägg på hjärtat alla de ord som jag i dag gör till vittnen mot er, så att ni befaller era barn att hålla fast vid och följa alla ord i denna lag. 47 Ty detta är inte ett tomt ord för er, det gäller ert liv. Genom detta ord skall ni få ett långt liv i det land, dit ni nu går över Jordan för att ta det i besittning."
Gud talar om Moses död
48 Samma dag talade Herren till Mose och sade: 49 "Stig upp här på Abarimberget, på berget Nebo i Moabs land mitt emot Jeriko, så skall du få se Kanaans land som jag ger åt Israels barn till besittning. 50 Du skall dö där på berget, dit du stiger upp, och du skall samlas till ditt folk, liksom din bror Aron dog på berget Hor och samlades till sitt folk. 51 Detta sker därför att ni var trolösa mot mig mitt bland Israels barn vid Meribas vatten vid Kadesh i öknen Sin, eftersom ni inte höll mig helig bland Israels barn. 52 Du skall se landet rakt framför dig, men du skall inte komma in dit, till det land som jag ger åt Israels barn.

Moses sång
32 Lyssna, himlar och jord! Hör, vad jag har att säga!
2 Min undervisning ska vara som stilla regn, den ska falla som dagg, som fint regn över det spirande gräset, ja, som rikligt regn över späda plantor.
3 Jag ska förkunna Herrens namn och prisa hans storhet!
4 Han är Klippan. Hans verk är fullkomliga.Allt vad han gör är rättfärdigt och rättvist. En trofast Gud är han, utan fel.
5 Men Israel har handlat orätt mot honom.De bär på synd och är inte längre hans barn, utan de har blivit en hårdhjärtad och motsträvig generation.
6 Är det så man behandlar Herren? Du dåraktiga folk! Är inte Gud din Far, din Skapare? Är det inte han som har gjort dig och format dig?
7 Tänk på hur det en gång var!Fråga din far och de gamla! De ska berätta för dig.
8 När Gud tilldelade folken deras områden bestämde han var de skulle bosätta sig.
9 Han behöll Israel för sig själv, som sin personliga egendom.
10 I öknen fann han dem,i ödemarken bevarade han och beskyddade sin ögonsten.
11 Han bredde ut sina vingar över dem. Som örnen vakade han över sina ungar och bar dem på sina vingar!
12 Herren ensam ledde dem, de hade inga andra gudar.
13 Herren gav dem bördiga bergshöjder, åkrar, honung ur klippan och olivolja från stenig mark!
14 Han gav dem mjölk och kött, baggar och getter från Basan och det allra finaste vete. De drack vin av utsökta druvor.
15 Men det folk som stod upprätt fick för mycket av det goda. De blev övergödda och tröga. I sitt överflöd övergav de sin Gud och sin frälsnings Klippa.
16 De började följa främmande gudar, och Herren blev vred och svartsjuk.
17 De offrade till hedniska gudar, till nya gudar, som aldrig tillbetts förr.
18 De övergav Klippan, som hade format dem, och glömde den Gud som fött dem.
19 Gud såg dem och avskydde dem! Hans söner och döttrar hade förolämpat honom.
20 Han sa: 'Jag ska överge dem'. Se, vad som då kommer att hända dem! De tillhör en hårdhjärtad och trolös generation.
21 De har gjort mig svartsjuk genom att vända sig till gudar som inte finns, till värdelösa avgudar. Nu ska jag göra dem svartsjuka genom att vända mig till sådana som inte är ett folk, ja de ska bli upprörda över folk som ej är nationer.
22 Min vrede har antänt en eld. Den brinner ända nere i dödsrikets djup, den förtär jorden och dess skördar och den sätter berg i lågor.
23 Jag ska överösa dem med olyckor och skjuta mina pilar på dem.
24 Jag ska fördärva dem genom hunger, brännande feber och dödande pest.Jag ska uppsluka dem. Jag ska skicka vilda djur att slita dem i stycken, och giftiga ormar ska kräla på marken.
25 På gatorna ska deras barn dödas av svärd, och i husen ska fruktan regera. Unga män och kvinnor, spädbarnet vid moderns bröst och den gamle, alla ska de gå under.
26 Jag hade bestämt mig för att förskingra dem till avlägsna länder och att utplåna alla minnen av dem.
27 Men så tänkte jag: Mina fiender kommer att triumfera och säga: 'Israel är utplånat genom vår väldiga makt. Det var vi och inte Herren som gjorde det!'
28 Israel är ett dåraktigt folk, helt utan förstånd.
29 Om de ändå vore visa! Om de ändå förstod!
30 Hur kunde en enda fiende jaga bort dem i tusentaloch två få tiotusen på flykten, om inte deras Klippa hade övergett dem, om inte Herren hade förgjort dem?
31 Men andra folks klippor är inte som vår Klippa. Det erkänner till och med fienden.
32 De liknar folket från Sodom och Gomorra: Deras gärningar är som förgiftade druvor i klasar av bitterhet,
33 och de sprider omkring sig kobrans dödliga gift.
34 Men jag har mina planer i säkert förvar.
35 Hämnden är min, och jag straffar Israels fiender. Snart ska deras fot slinta.
36 Herren ska döma sitt folk och ha medlidande med dem när deras kraft är uttömd och ingen återstår, varken slav eller fri.
37 Då ska Gud fråga: 'Var är deras gudar, klippan de flydde till?
38 Var är nu de gudar som tagit emot deras offer av fett och vin? Låt dem komma till hjälp och låt dem erbjuda skydd!
39 Ser ni nu att jag ensam är Gud? Jag dödar, och jag ger liv. Jag sårar och jag helar. Ingen kommer undan min hand.
40-41 Jag lyfter den mot himlen och försäkrar att så sant som jag lever i evighet ska min hand gripa det slipade svärdet till dom.
42-43 Mina pilar ska drypa av blod! Mitt svärd ska gå fram genom kött och blod från de slagna och från de fångna, ja över fiendens ledares huvuden.'Gläd er, alla länder, för han hämnas sitt folk, han tar hämnd på sina fiender, han renar sitt land och sitt folk.
44-45 När Mose och Josua hade läst upp hela denna sång för folket,
46 sa Mose:Tänk nu på alla de lagar som jag har gett er i dag, och låt era barn få del av dem.
47 De är inte vanliga ord, de är liv. Genom att lyda dem kommer ni att få ett långt och rikt liv i det land som ni nu ska ta i besittning på andra sidan floden Jordan.
Mose får veta att han snart ska dö
48 Samma dag sa Herren till Mose:
49 Gå till berget Nebo i Abarimbergen, i Moabs land mitt emot Jeriko. Se ut över Kanaans land därifrån, det land som jag ska ge Israels folk.
50 När du har sett landet måste du dö och förenas med dina fäder, på samma sätt som din bror Aron dog på berget Hor och förenades med dem.
51 Ni vanärade mig nämligen båda bland Israels folk vid Meribas källor i öknen Sin.
52 Framför dig ska du se det land ligga utbrett som jag ska ge Israels folk, men du kommer själv inte att få gå in i det.

hear, you earth, the words of my mouth.(C)
2 Let my teaching fall like rain(D)
and my words descend like dew,(E)
like showers(F) on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants.
3 I will proclaim(G) the name of the Lord.(H)
Oh, praise the greatness(I) of our God!
4 He is the Rock,(J) his works are perfect,(K)
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God(L) who does no wrong,
upright(M) and just is he.(N)
5 They are corrupt and not his children;
to their shame they are a warped and crooked generation.(O)
6 Is this the way you repay(P) the Lord,
you foolish(Q) and unwise people?(R)
Is he not your Father,(S) your Creator,[a]
who made you and formed you?(T)

and angered(AX) him with their detestable idols.
17 They sacrificed(AY) to false gods,(AZ) which are not God—
gods they had not known,(BA)
gods that recently appeared,(BB)
gods your ancestors did not fear.
18 You deserted the Rock, who fathered you;
you forgot(BC) the God who gave you birth.
19 The Lord saw this and rejected them(BD)
because he was angered by his sons and daughters.(BE)
20 “I will hide my face(BF) from them,” he said,
“and see what their end will be;
for they are a perverse generation,(BG)
children who are unfaithful.(BH)
21 They made me jealous(BI) by what is no god
and angered me with their worthless idols.(BJ)
I will make them envious by those who are not a people;
I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.(BK)
22 For a fire will be kindled by my wrath,(BL)
one that burns down to the realm of the dead below.(BM)
It will devour(BN) the earth and its harvests(BO)
and set afire the foundations of the mountains.(BP)
23 “I will heap calamities(BQ) on them
and spend my arrows(BR) against them.
24 I will send wasting famine(BS) against them,
consuming pestilence(BT) and deadly plague;(BU)
I will send against them the fangs of wild beasts,(BV)
the venom of vipers(BW) that glide in the dust.(BX)
25 In the street the sword will make them childless;
in their homes terror(BY) will reign.(BZ)
The young men and young women will perish,
the infants and those with gray hair.(CA)
26 I said I would scatter(CB) them
and erase their name from human memory,(CC)
27 but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy,
lest the adversary misunderstand(CD)
and say, ‘Our hand has triumphed;
the Lord has not done all this.’”(CE)
28 They are a nation without sense,
there is no discernment(CF) in them.
29 If only they were wise and would understand this(CG)
and discern what their end will be!(CH)
30 How could one man chase a thousand,
or two put ten thousand to flight,(CI)
unless their Rock had sold them,(CJ)
unless the Lord had given them up?(CK)
31 For their rock is not like our Rock,(CL)
as even our enemies concede.(CM)
32 Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom(CN)
and from the fields of Gomorrah.
Their grapes are filled with poison,(CO)
and their clusters with bitterness.(CP)
33 Their wine is the venom of serpents,
the deadly poison of cobras.(CQ)
34 “Have I not kept this in reserve
and sealed it in my vaults?(CR)
35 It is mine to avenge;(CS) I will repay.(CT)
In due time their foot will slip;(CU)
their day of disaster is near
and their doom rushes upon them.(CV)”
36 The Lord will vindicate his people(CW)
and relent(CX) concerning his servants(CY)
when he sees their strength is gone
and no one is left, slave(CZ) or free.[d]
37 He will say: “Now where are their gods,
the rock they took refuge in,(DA)
38 the gods who ate the fat of their sacrifices
and drank the wine of their drink offerings?(DB)
Let them rise up to help you!
Let them give you shelter!
39 “See now that I myself am he!(DC)
There is no god besides me.(DD)
I put to death(DE) and I bring to life,(DF)
I have wounded and I will heal,(DG)
and no one can deliver out of my hand.(DH)
40 I lift my hand(DI) to heaven and solemnly swear:
As surely as I live forever,(DJ)
41 when I sharpen my flashing sword(DK)
and my hand grasps it in judgment,
I will take vengeance(DL) on my adversaries
and repay those who hate me.(DM)
42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood,(DN)
while my sword devours flesh:(DO)
the blood of the slain and the captives,
the heads of the enemy leaders.”
43 Rejoice,(DP) you nations, with his people,[e][f]
for he will avenge the blood of his servants;(DQ)
he will take vengeance on his enemies(DR)
and make atonement for his land and people.(DS)
44 Moses came with Joshua[g](DT) son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people. 45 When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, 46 he said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day,(DU) so that you may command(DV) your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. 47 They are not just idle words for you—they are your life.(DW) By them you will live long(DX) in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
Moses to Die on Mount Nebo
48 On that same day the Lord told Moses,(DY) 49 “Go up into the Abarim(DZ) Range to Mount Nebo(EA) in Moab, across from Jericho,(EB) and view Canaan,(EC) the land I am giving the Israelites as their own possession. 50 There on the mountain that you have climbed you will die(ED) and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died(EE) on Mount Hor(EF) and was gathered to his people. 51 This is because both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh(EG) in the Desert of Zin(EH) and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites.(EI) 52 Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance;(EJ) you will not enter(EK) the land I am giving to the people of Israel.”

32 “Give (A)ear, O heavens, and I will speak;
And hear, O (B)earth, the words of my mouth.
2 Let (C)my [a]teaching drop as the rain,
My speech distill as the dew,
(D)As raindrops on the tender herb,
And as showers on the grass.
3 For I proclaim the (E)name of the Lord:
(F)Ascribe greatness to our God.
4 He is (G)the Rock, (H)His work is perfect;
For all His ways are justice,
(I)A God of truth and (J)without injustice;
Righteous and upright is He.
5 “They(K) have corrupted themselves;
They are not His children,
Because of their blemish:
A (L)perverse and crooked generation.
6 Do you thus (M)deal[b] with the Lord,
O foolish and unwise people?
Is He not (N)your Father, who (O)bought you?
Has He not (P)made you and established you?
7 “Remember(Q) the days of old,
Consider the years of many generations.
(R)Ask your father, and he will show you;
Your elders, and they will tell you:
8 When the Most High (S)divided their inheritance to the nations,

Jacob is the place of His inheritance.

And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness;
He encircled him, He instructed him,

Hovers over its young,
Spreading out its wings, taking them up,
Carrying them on its wings,
12 So the Lord alone led him,
And there was no foreign god with him.
13 “He(Y) made him ride in the heights of the earth,
That he might eat the produce of the fields;
He made him draw honey from the rock,
And oil from the flinty rock;
14 Curds from the cattle, and milk of the flock,

And rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats,
With the choicest wheat;

15 “But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked;
(AB)You grew fat, you grew thick,
You are obese!

And scornfully esteemed the (AE)Rock of his salvation.
16 (AF)They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods;
With [e]abominations they provoked Him to anger.
17 (AG)They sacrificed to demons, not to God,
To gods they did not know,
To new gods, new arrivals
That your fathers did not fear.
18 (AH)Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful,
And have (AI)forgotten the God who fathered you.
19 “And(AJ) when the Lord saw it, He spurned them,
Because of the provocation of His sons and His daughters.
20 And He said: ‘I will hide My face from them,
I will see what their end will be,
For they are a perverse generation,
(AK)Children in whom is no faith.
21 (AL)They have provoked Me to jealousy by what is not God;
They have moved Me to anger (AM)by their [f]foolish idols.
But (AN)I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not a nation;
I will move them to anger by a foolish nation.
22 For (AO)a fire is kindled in My anger,
And shall burn to the [g]lowest [h]hell;
It shall consume the earth with her increase,
And set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
23 ‘I will (AP)heap disasters on them;
(AQ)I will spend My arrows on them.
24 They shall be wasted with hunger,
Devoured by pestilence and bitter destruction;
I will also send against them the (AR)teeth of beasts,
With the poison of serpents of the dust.
25 The sword shall destroy outside;
There shall be terror within
For the young man and virgin,
The nursing child with the man of gray hairs.
26 (AS)I would have said, “I will dash them in pieces,
I will make the memory of them to cease from among men,”
27 Had I not feared the wrath of the enemy,
Lest their adversaries should misunderstand,
Lest they should say, (AT)“Our hand is high;
And it is not the Lord who has done all this.” ’
28 “For they are a nation void of counsel,
Nor is there any understanding in them.
29 (AU)Oh, that they were wise, that they understood this,
That they would consider their (AV)latter end!
30 How could one chase a thousand,
And two put ten thousand to flight,
Unless their Rock (AW)had sold them,
And the Lord had surrendered them?
31 For their rock is not like our Rock,
(AX)Even our enemies themselves being judges.
32 For (AY)their vine is of the vine of Sodom
And of the fields of Gomorrah;
Their grapes are grapes of gall,
Their clusters are bitter.
33 Their wine is (AZ)the poison of serpents,
And the cruel (BA)venom of cobras.
34 ‘Is this not (BB)laid up in store with Me,
Sealed up among My treasures?
35 (BC)Vengeance is Mine, and recompense;
Their foot shall slip in due time;
(BD)For the day of their calamity is at hand,
And the things to come hasten upon them.’
36 “For(BE) the Lord will judge His people
(BF)And have compassion on His servants,
When He sees that their power is gone,
And (BG)there is no one remaining, bond or free.
37 He will say: (BH)‘Where are their gods,
The rock in which they sought refuge?
38 Who ate the fat of their sacrifices,
And drank the wine of their drink offering?
Let them rise and help you,
And be your refuge.
39 ‘Now see that (BI)I, even I, am He,
And (BJ)there is no God besides Me;
(BK)I kill and I make alive;
I wound and I heal;
Nor is there any who can deliver from My hand.
40 For I raise My hand to heaven,
And say, “As I live forever,
41 (BL)If I [i]whet My glittering sword,
And My hand takes hold on judgment,
I will render vengeance to My enemies,
And repay those who hate Me.
42 I will make My arrows drunk with blood,
And My sword shall devour flesh,
With the blood of the slain and the captives,
From the heads of the leaders of the enemy.” ’
43 “Rejoice,(BM) O Gentiles, with His [j]people;
For He will (BN)avenge the blood of His servants,
And render vengeance to His adversaries;
He (BO)will provide atonement for His land and His people.”
44 So Moses came with [k]Joshua the son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people. 45 Moses finished speaking all these words to all Israel, 46 and he said to them: (BP)“Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your (BQ)children to be careful to observe—all the words of this law. 47 For it is not a [l]futile thing for you, because it is your (BR)life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”
Moses to Die on Mount Nebo
48 Then the Lord spoke to Moses that very same day, saying: 49 (BS)“Go up this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, across from Jericho; view the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel as a possession; 50 and die on the mountain which you ascend, and be [m]gathered to your people, just as (BT)Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people; 51 because (BU)you trespassed against Me among the children of Israel at the waters of [n]Meribah Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin, because you (BV)did not hallow Me in the midst of the children of Israel. 52 (BW)Yet you shall see the land before you, though you shall not go there, into the land which I am giving to the children of Israel.”
