Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of Thessalonians, in God our Father, and in the Lord Jesus Christ,

grace to you and peace of God, our Father, and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We owe to do thankings evermore to God for you, brethren, so as it is worthy, for your faith over-waxeth, and the charity of each of you to other aboundeth.[a]

So that we us selves glory in you [So that we ourselves glory in you] in the churches of God, for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations. Which ye sustain

into the ensample [into the example] of the just doom of God, that ye be had worthy in the kingdom of God, for which ye suffer.

If nevertheless it is just before God [If nevertheless it is just at God] to requite tribulation to them that trouble you,

and to you that be troubled, rest with us in the showing of the Lord Jesus from heaven, with angels of his virtue,

in the flame of fire, that shall give vengeance to them that know not God [in the flame of fire, giving vengeance to them that know not God], and that obey not to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Which shall suffer everlasting pains, in perishing from the face of the Lord, and from the glory of his virtue,

10 when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be made wonderful in all men that believed, for our witnessing is believed on you, in that day.

11 In which thing also we pray evermore for you, that our God make you worthy to his calling, and fill all the will of his goodness [and fulfill all the will of his goodness], and the work of faith in virtue;

12 that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ be clarified in you, and ye in him, by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [after the grace of our God, and of the Lord Jesus Christ].

  1. 2 Thessalonians 1:3 We owe to do thankings ever to God for you, brethren, so as it is worthy, for your faith ever-waxeth, and the charity of each of you together aboundeth.

He thanks God for their faith and love, and prays for the increase of the same.

Paul, Sylvanus, and Timothy.

To the congregation of the Thessalonians who are in God our Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Grace be with you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because your faith grows exceedingly, and every one of you swims in love toward another between yourselves, so that we ourselves rejoice over you in the congregations of God – over your patience and faith in all the persecutions and tribulations that you suffer, which is a sign of the righteous judgment of God, that you are counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer.

It is surely a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to those who trouble you; and to you who are troubled, rest with us when the Lord Jesus shows himself from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, rendering vengeance to those who do not know God, and to those who will not heed the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting damnation, separated from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power, 10 when he comes to be glorified in his saints and to be made marvelous in all who believe, because our testimony to you was believed even the same day that we preached it.

11 Therefore we pray always for you, that our God would make you worthy of the calling, and would fulfil all pleasure in goodness and the work of faith with power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in him, through the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; so that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10 when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. 11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: 12 that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
