Israel’s King Zechariah
8 In the thirty-eighth year of Judah’s King Azariah, Zechariah(A) son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel in Samaria for six months. 9 He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight as his predecessors had done.(B) He did not turn away from the sins Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.(C)
10 Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah. He struck him down publicly,[a] killed him, and became king in his place.(D) 11 As for the rest of the events of Zechariah’s reign, they are written in the Historical Record of Israel’s Kings.(E) 12 The word of the Lord that he spoke to Jehu was, “Four generations of your sons will sit on the throne of Israel,”(F) and it was so.

Zechariah over Israel
8 (A)In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah the son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in Samaria for six months. 9 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, just as his fathers had done; he did not desist from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, into which he misled Israel. 10 Then Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and (B)struck him in the presence of the people and [a]killed him, and reigned in his place. 11 Now as for the rest of the acts of Zechariah, behold they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. 12 This is (C)the word of the Lord which He spoke to Jehu, saying, “Your sons to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.” And so it was.
