病にかかったヒゼキヤ
20 そのころ、ヒゼキヤは重病をわずらい、明日をも知れぬ身となりました。預言者イザヤは彼を訪ねて来て言いました。「身の回りを整理しておかれますように。病気は治らない、と主のおことばがありました。」
2 王は顔を壁に向け、主に嘆願しました。 3 「ああ主よ。どうか、私がいつもあなたにお従いし、何につけてもあなたをお喜ばせしようとしてきたことを思い出してください。」こう言って、彼は泣き伏しました。
4 イザヤがまだ中庭を出ないうちに、再び主のことばがありました。 5 「わたしの民の指導者ヒゼキヤのもとに引き返して、こう告げなさい。先祖ダビデの神、主は、王の祈りを聞き、涙を見た。わたしは彼を癒やそう。三日後には、彼は床から起き上がり、神殿の前に立つ。 6 彼の寿命を十五年延ばそう。そしてアッシリヤの王の手から、王とこの町とを救い出す。そうするのは、わたしの栄光のため、また、わたしのしもべダビデのためである。」
7 イザヤは、干しいちじくをゆでて軟膏を作り、それをヒゼキヤ王の腫れものに塗るよう指示しました。すると、王は治ったのです。
8 ヒゼキヤはイザヤにこう言いました。「主が私を癒やされ、三日後にまた神殿に行けるという証拠を見せてください。」
9 イザヤは言いました。「よろしい。主はあなたにしるしを見せてくださいます。日時計の上の影を十度進ませるか、それとも十度引き戻すか、どちらを選びますか。」
10 「影は進むと決まっているから、あとに戻るようにしてください。」
11 イザヤはそのように祈りました。すると、主は日時計の影を十度後戻りさせたのです。
バビロンからの使者
12 そのころ、バルアダンの子、バビロンの王メロダク・バルアダンは、ヒゼキヤ王が病気だというので、見舞いの使者を送り、手紙と贈り物を届けました。 13 ヒゼキヤは使者を喜んで迎え、宝物として大事にしまってある金、銀、香料、香油、武器などをすべて見せました。
14 そこでイザヤは、ヒゼキヤに会って尋ねました。「あの人たちは何を求めたのですか。どこから来たのですか。」
ヒゼキヤは、「はるばるバビロンから来られました」と言いました。
15 イザヤが、「彼らは宮殿で何を見たのですか」と聞くと、「私の宝物倉にある物は全部見せました」とヒゼキヤは答えました。
16 すると、イザヤはヒゼキヤに言いました。「主のおことばを聞きなさい。 17 『この宮殿にある物が、一つ残らずバビロンに運ばれる時がくる。先祖の宝物はすべて持ち去られ、何も残らない。 18 あなたの息子のうちから、捕虜になって、バビロン王の宮殿で宦官として仕える者が出る。』」
19 「よくわかりました。主のお望みなら、それもけっこうです。」実を言うと王は、自分が生きている間は平和と安全が保証されると考えていたのです。
20 ヒゼキヤ王のその他の業績、貯水池と水道を造って町に水を引いたことなどは、『ユダ諸王の年代記』に記録されています。 21 こうして王は死んで、その子マナセが新しく王となりました。

Hezekiah’s Illness(A)
20 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember,(B) Lord, how I have walked(C) before you faithfully(D) and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: 5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard(E) your prayer and seen your tears;(F) I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. 6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend(G) this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’”
7 Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a poultice of figs.” They did so and applied it to the boil,(H) and he recovered.
8 Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?”
9 Isaiah answered, “This is the Lord’s sign(I) to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?”
10 “It is a simple(J) matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,” said Hezekiah. “Rather, have it go back ten steps.”
11 Then the prophet Isaiah called on the Lord, and the Lord made the shadow go back(K) the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.
Envoys From Babylon(L)(M)
12 At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of Hezekiah’s illness. 13 Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold, the spices and the fine olive oil—his armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.
14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”
“From a distant land,” Hezekiah replied. “They came from Babylon.”
15 The prophet asked, “What did they see in your palace?”
“They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: 17 The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.(N) Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 18 And some of your descendants,(O) your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”(P)
19 “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?”
20 As for the other events of Hezekiah’s reign, all his achievements and how he made the pool(Q) and the tunnel(R) by which he brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 21 Hezekiah rested with his ancestors. And Manasseh his son succeeded him as king.

4 それを見て、主はイザヤに告げました。 5 「さあ行って、ヒゼキヤに言ってやりなさい。『あなたの父祖ダビデの神である主は、確かにあなたの祈りを聞いた。あなたの涙を見て、あと十五年いのちを延ばすことにした。 6 あなたとこの都をアッシリヤ王の手から救い出し、あなたを守る、と主は言われる。 7-8 その保証として、アハズの日時計の目盛りを十度あとに戻す。』」
すると、日時計に落ちる日の影は十度あと戻りしました。
9 ヒゼキヤは元気になると、この経験を詩にまとめました。
10 「まだ働き盛りだというのに、
いっさいをあきらめなければならないのか。
これからの歳月は奪い取られ、
よみの門に入ろうとしている。
11 もう二度と、
生きている人の国で主を見ることはないだろう。
この世で友人の顔を見ることもない。
12 私のいのちは、羊飼いの天幕のように
風で吹き飛ばされ、機を織る人が中途で
手を止めるように中断された。
私のいのちは、たった一日で消えていく。
13 私は夜通しうめいた。
まるでライオンに引き裂かれるような苦しみだ。
14 私は錯乱状態になり、
雀のようにさえずり、鳩のようにうめいた。
助けを求めて上を見続けていたので、
目はすっかりかすんでしまった。
私は叫んだ。『ああ神様、助けてください。
苦しくてたまりません。』
15 しかし、私に何を言うことができよう。
私を病気にしたのは主なのだから。
苦しさのあまり眠ることもできない。
16 『主よ、あなたの懲らしめは益となり、
いのちと健康に導きます。
どうか病気を治し、私を生かしてください。
17 今やっとわかりました。
この苦しい経験は、みな私のためだったのです。
神が愛をもって私を死から救い出し、
いっさいの罪を赦してくださったからです。
18 死人はあなたを賛美できません。
そこには希望も喜びもありません。
19 生きていてこそ、今日の私のように、
あなたを賛美できるのです。
あなたの真実は父から子へ代々語り継がれます。』
20 ああ、主は病気を治してくださった。
これからは毎日、いのちある限り、
神殿で主への賛美を奏でよう。」
21 イザヤは王の召使に、「いちじくで塗り薬をつくり、はれものに塗りなさい。そうすれば、王様は元どおり元気になられます」と言いました。 22 するとヒゼキヤは、「病気が必ず治る保証として、主はどんなしるしを与えてくださいますか」と尋ねてきました。

Hezekiah’s Illness(A)

4 Then the word(I) of the Lord came to Isaiah: 5 “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David,(J) says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears;(K) I will add fifteen years(L) to your life. 6 And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend(M) this city.
7 “‘This is the Lord’s sign(N) to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: 8 I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.’” So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down.(O)
9 A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery:
10 I said, “In the prime of my life(P)
must I go through the gates of death(Q)
and be robbed of the rest of my years?(R)”
11 I said, “I will not again see the Lord himself(S)
in the land of the living;(T)
no longer will I look on my fellow man,
or be with those who now dwell in this world.
12 Like a shepherd’s tent(U) my house
has been pulled down(V) and taken from me.
Like a weaver I have rolled(W) up my life,
and he has cut me off from the loom;(X)
day and night(Y) you made an end of me.
13 I waited patiently(Z) till dawn,
but like a lion he broke(AA) all my bones;(AB)
day and night(AC) you made an end of me.
14 I cried like a swift or thrush,
I moaned like a mourning dove.(AD)
My eyes grew weak(AE) as I looked to the heavens.
I am being threatened; Lord, come to my aid!”(AF)
15 But what can I say?(AG)
He has spoken to me, and he himself has done this.(AH)
I will walk humbly(AI) all my years
because of this anguish of my soul.(AJ)
16 Lord, by such things people live;
and my spirit finds life in them too.
You restored me to health
and let me live.(AK)
17 Surely it was for my benefit(AL)
that I suffered such anguish.(AM)
In your love you kept me
from the pit(AN) of destruction;
you have put all my sins(AO)
behind your back.(AP)
18 For the grave(AQ) cannot praise you,
death cannot sing your praise;(AR)
those who go down to the pit(AS)
cannot hope for your faithfulness.
19 The living, the living—they praise(AT) you,
as I am doing today;
parents tell their children(AU)
about your faithfulness.
20 The Lord will save me,
and we will sing(AV) with stringed instruments(AW)

in the temple(AY) of the Lord.

it is I who judge with equity.(D)
3 When the earth and all its people quake,(E)
it is I who hold its pillars(F) firm.[b]
4 To the arrogant(G) I say, ‘Boast no more,’(H)
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns.[c](I)
5 Do not lift your horns against heaven;

2 ですから、悪意、偽り、偽善、ねたみ、悪口を捨てなさい。 2-3 すでに主の恵みといつくしみを経験したのですから、乳を求める赤ん坊のように、熱心にみことばを求めなさい。
4 主キリストに近づきなさい。主が土台石となり、神はその上に、神の家をお建てになるのです。人々は主を拒みましたが、神は主を最も重要な存在として選ばれたのです。 5 あなたがたも、神の家を建て上げるための生ける土台石となりなさい。そして、聖なる祭司として、イエス・キリストを通して、神に喜ばれる供え物を神にささげなさい。 6 聖書にこう書いてあります。「見よ。わたしは一つの石（キリスト）を（教会の）尊い土台石とするために選び、遣わした。彼に信頼する者は、決して失望しない。」（イザヤ28・16）
7 キリストは、信じる者にとって何よりも尊い方ですが、キリストを拒む者にとっては、「つまずきの石、妨げの岩」となりました。「家を建てる者たちの捨てた石が、なくてはならない土台石となった」（詩篇118・22）とあるとおりです。 8 彼らのつまずきの原因は、神のことばに耳を傾けず、従おうとしないことですが、そうなるように定められてもいたのです。
9 しかし、あなたがたはそうではありません。あなたがたは神から選ばれた王なる祭司であり、きよい民として神のものとされた人たちです。それはすべて、どうして自分が暗闇から神の驚くべき光へと招き入れられたかを、人々に語り伝えるためなのです。 10 あなたがたは、以前は全く無きに等しい者でしたが、今は神のものとされています。以前は神のいつくしみから遠い者でしたが、今では神のいつくしみによって変えられました。
11 愛する皆さん。この地上では、あなたがたは旅人であり、一時の滞在者にすぎないのですから、あなたがたのたましいに戦いをいどむ、この世の快楽から遠ざかりなさい。 12 異教徒の中でりっぱにふるまいなさい。そうすれば、今はあなたがたを疑いの目で見たり、非難したりしていても、やがてキリストが来られる時には、あなたがたのりっぱな行いを認めて、彼らは神をほめたたえるようになるでしょう。
13-14 主のために、国家の定めたすべての制度に従いなさい。この世の主権者である王が定めたものであっても、王の任命した総督が定めたものであっても従うべきです。彼らは悪い者を罰し、正しい者に栄誉を与えるからです。 15 というのは、善を行って、愚かな人の無知の口を封じることは、神の望まれることだからです。 16 あなたがたは、この世から解放された自由人です。しかし、それを好き勝手なことをするためにではなく、ただ神に従うことに用いなさい。 17 だれであっても尊敬しなさい。お互いに深く愛し合いなさい。神を恐れ、王を尊びなさい。
18 召使は主人を尊敬し、従いなさい。善良でやさしい主人に対してだけでなく、横暴な主人にも従いなさい。 19 不当な罰を受けても耐えるなら、神に喜ばれます。 20 自分が悪いことをして受けた罰をどんなに我慢しても、何の誉れにもなりません。しかし、正しいことをしたばかりに苦しみを受け、それを耐え忍ぶのは、神に喜ばれることです。
21 この苦しみは、神が与えてくださった務めでもあるのです。あなたがたのために苦しまれたキリストが見ならうべき模範となられました。この方について行きなさい。 22 キリストは一度も、罪を犯したり、偽りを語ったりなさいませんでした。 23 侮辱されても、苦しめられても報復をせず、公平にさばかれる神にご自分をお任せになりました。 24 キリストは、私たちの罪をその身に負って、十字架上で死んでくださいました。そのおかげで、私たちは罪から離れ、正しい生活を始めることができたのです。キリストが傷つくことによって、私たちの傷はいやされました。 25 あなたがたは神から離れて迷子の羊のようにさまよっていましたが、今は、どんな敵の攻撃からもたましいを安全に守ってくださる、羊飼いである方のもとに帰ったのです。

2 Therefore, rid yourselves(A) of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander(B) of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk,(C) so that by it you may grow up(D) in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.(E)
The Living Stone and a Chosen People
4 As you come to him, the living Stone(F)—rejected by humans but chosen by God(G) and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built(H) into a spiritual house[a](I) to be a holy priesthood,(J) offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.(K) 6 For in Scripture it says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a chosen and precious cornerstone,(L)
and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame.”[b](M)
7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,(N)
8 and,
They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.(R)
9 But you are a chosen people,(S) a royal priesthood,(T) a holy nation,(U) God’s special possession,(V) that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.(W) 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God;(X) once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Living Godly Lives in a Pagan Society
11 Dear friends,(Y) I urge you, as foreigners and exiles,(Z) to abstain from sinful desires,(AA) which wage war against your soul.(AB) 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds(AC) and glorify God(AD) on the day he visits us.
13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority:(AE) whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong(AF) and to commend those who do right.(AG) 15 For it is God’s will(AH) that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.(AI) 16 Live as free people,(AJ) but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil;(AK) live as God’s slaves.(AL) 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers,(AM) fear God, honor the emperor.(AN)
18 Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters,(AO) not only to those who are good and considerate,(AP) but also to those who are harsh. 19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God.(AQ) 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.(AR) 21 To this(AS) you were called,(AT) because Christ suffered for you,(AU) leaving you an example,(AV) that you should follow in his steps.
23 When they hurled their insults at him,(AY) he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats.(AZ) Instead, he entrusted himself(BA) to him who judges justly.(BB) 24 “He himself bore our sins”(BC) in his body on the cross,(BD) so that we might die to sins(BE) and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”(BF) 25 For “you were like sheep going astray,”[f](BG) but now you have returned to the Shepherd(BH) and Overseer of your souls.(BI)
