Preach the Word

4 ^(A)I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to ^(B)judge the living and the dead, and by His ^(C)appearing and His kingdom: ²preach ^(D)the word; be ready in season and out of season; ^(E)reprove, rebuke, exhort, with ^[a]great ^(F)patience and teaching. ³For ^(G)the time will come when they will not endure ^(H)sound doctrine, but wanting to have ^[b]their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, ⁴and ^(I)will turn away their ears from the truth and ^(J)will turn aside to myths.

⁵But you, ^(K)be sober in all things, ^(L)endure hardship, do the work of an ^(M)evangelist, fulfill your ^(N)ministry.

⁶For I am already being ^(O)poured out as a drink offering, and the time of ^(P)my departure has come. ⁷^(Q)I have fought the good fight, I have finished ^(R)the course, I have kept ^(S)the faith. ⁸In the future there ^(T)is laid up for me ^(U)the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on ^(V)that day, and not only to me, but also to ^(W)all who have loved His ^(X)appearing.

Personal Concerns

⁹^(Y)Be diligent to come to me soon, ¹⁰for ^(Z)Demas, having loved ^(AA)this present age, has deserted me and gone to ^(AB)Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to ^[c]^(AC)Galatia, ^(AD)Titus to Dalmatia. ¹¹^(AE)Only ^(AF)Luke is with me. Pick up ^(AG)Mark and bring him with you, ^(AH)for he is useful to me for service. ¹²But ^(AI)Tychicus I sent to ^(AJ)Ephesus. ¹³When you come bring the cloak which I left at ^(AK)Troas with Carpus, and the scrolls, especially the parchments. ¹⁴^(AL)Alexander the coppersmith showed me much harm; ^(AM)the Lord will award him according to his deeds. ¹⁵Be on guard against him yourself, for he vigorously opposed our words.

¹⁶At my first defense no one supported me, but all deserted me. ^(AN)May it not be counted against them. ¹⁷But the Lord stood with me and ^(AO)strengthened me, so that through me ^(AP)the preaching might be ^(AQ)fulfilled, and that all ^(AR)the Gentiles might hear. And I was ^(AS)rescued out of ^(AT)the lion’s mouth. ¹⁸The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will ^(AU)save me unto His ^(AV)heavenly kingdom; ^(AW)to ^[d]Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

¹⁹Greet Prisca and ^(AX)Aquila, and ^(AY)the household of Onesiphorus. ²⁰^(AZ)Erastus remained at ^(BA)Corinth, but ^(BB)Trophimus I left sick at ^(BC)Miletus. ²¹^(BD)Be diligent to come before ^(BE)winter. Eubulus greets you, also Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brothers.

4 Jag befaller dig inför Gud och Kristus Jesus, som ska döma levande och döda, och inför hans uppenbarelse och hans rike: ²förkunna budskapet. Träd fram i tid och otid, bestraffa, tillrättavisa och uppmuntra, med stort tålamod och vägledning.

³Det kommer en tid då människor inte längre ska acceptera den sunda läran. I stället ska de samla människor omkring sig som bara undervisar sådant de vill höra och som kliar dem i öronen. ⁴De ska vägra att lyssna till sanningen och vända sig till myter.

⁵Men var lugn och sansad i alla lägen, var beredd att lida, sprid evangeliet. Gör allt det som du har fått i uppdrag att göra.

⁶Själv håller jag redan på att offras som ett drickoffer för Gud, det är dags för mig att bryta upp. ⁷Jag har kämpat min kamp väl, jag har sprungit klart mitt lopp, och jag har bevarat tron. ⁸Nu väntar mig rättfärdighetens segerkrans, som Herren, den rättvise domaren, ska ge mig på den dagen, och inte bara mig utan alla som längtar efter att han ska komma tillbaka.

Personliga anvisningar

⁹Försök att komma hit så snart du kan. ¹⁰Demas har av kärlek till den här världen övergett mig och rest till Thessalonike. Crescens har rest till Galatien och Titus till Dalmatien. ¹¹Det är bara Lukas som är kvar hos mig. Ta med dig Markus, för han är till stor hjälp i mitt arbete. ¹²Tychikos har jag skickat till Efesos. ¹³När du kommer, ta med dig manteln som jag lämnade hos Karpos i Troas. Ta också med dig böckerna och framför allt pergamentrullarna.

¹⁴Smeden Alexandros har orsakat mig mycket ont, men Herren ska straffa honom för vad han har gjort. ¹⁵Akta dig för honom, för han har gått till hård attack mot vårt budskap. ¹⁶När jag försvarade mig för första gången, var det ingen som kom till min hjälp, utan alla övergav mig. Jag hoppas att de inte ska bli straffade för det. ¹⁷Men Herren var med mig och gav mig kraft, för att evangeliet genom mig skulle nå till alla folk. Och jag räddades ur lejonets gap. ¹⁸Herren ska rädda mig från allt ont och föra mig till sitt himmelska rike. Hans är äran i all evighet, amen.

4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead,^(A) and in view of his appearing^(B) and his kingdom, I give you this charge:^(C) ²Preach^(D) the word;^(E) be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke^(F) and encourage^(G)—with great patience and careful instruction. ³For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.^(H) Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.^(I) ⁴They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.^(J) ⁵But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship,^(K) do the work of an evangelist,^(L) discharge all the duties of your ministry.

May it not be held against them.^(AI) ¹⁷But the Lord stood at my side^(AJ) and gave me strength,^(AK) so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it.^(AL) And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.^(AM) ¹⁸The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack^(AN) and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom.^(AO) To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.^(AP)
