⁹ But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, ^(A)as was that of those two men.

⁸ Just as ^(A)Jannes and Jambres ^(B)opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, ^(C)men corrupted in mind and ^(D)disqualified regarding the faith.

¹² For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.

¹⁵ And Jeremiah the prophet said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah, ^(A)the Lord has not sent you, ^(B)and you have made this people trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, ^(C)because you have uttered rebellion against the Lord.’”

¹⁷ In that same year, in the seventh month, the prophet Hananiah died.

¹¹ And ^(A)the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils came upon the magicians and upon all the Egyptians.

¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered them, ^(A)“Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” ¹⁶ And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all^[a] of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. ¹⁷ And this became known to all the residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks. And fear fell upon them all, and ^(B)the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled.

¹¹ And now, behold, ^(A)the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking ^(B)people to lead him by the hand.

^19 (A)Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you and against this land’?

³¹ “Send to all the exiles, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord concerning ^(A)Shemaiah of Nehelam: Because ^(B)Shemaiah had prophesied to you ^(C)when I did not send him, and has made you trust in a lie, ³² therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will punish ^(D)Shemaiah of Nehelam and his descendants. He shall not have anyone living among this people, ^(E)and he shall not see the good that I will do to my people, declares the Lord, ^(F)for he has spoken rebellion against the Lord.’”

²¹ ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, ^(A)who are prophesying a lie to you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall strike them down before your eyes. ^22 (B)Because of them ^(C)this curse shall be used by all the exiles from Judah in Babylon: “The Lord make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, ^(D)whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,” ²³ because they have done an outrageous thing in Israel, ^(E)they have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and ^(F)they have spoken in my name lying words that I did not command them. ^(G)I am the one who knows, ^(H)and I am witness, declares the Lord.’”
