The Great Apostasy

2 Now, brethren, ^(A)concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ ^(B)and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, ²^(C)not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of ^[a]Christ had come. ³Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come ^(D)unless the falling away comes first, and ^(E)the man of ^[b]sin is revealed, ^(F)the son of perdition, ⁴who opposes and ^(G)exalts himself ^(H)above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits ^[c]as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

⁵Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? ⁶And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. ⁷For ^(I)the ^[d]mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only ^[e]He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. ⁸And then the lawless one will be revealed, ^(J)whom the Lord will consume ^(K)with the breath of His mouth and destroy ^(L)with the brightness of His coming. ⁹The coming of the lawless one is ^(M)according to the working of Satan, with all power, ^(N)signs, and lying wonders, ¹⁰and with all unrighteous deception among ^(O)those who perish, because they did not receive ^(P)the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹And ^(Q)for this reason God will send them strong delusion, ^(R)that they should believe the lie, ¹²that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but ^(S)had pleasure in unrighteousness.

⁸και τοτε αποκαλυφθησεται ο ανομος ον ο κυριος αναλωσει τω πνευματι του στοματος αυτου και καταργησει τη επιφανεια της παρουσιας αυτου

⁹ου εστιν η παρουσια κατ ενεργειαν του σατανα εν παση δυναμει και σημειοις και τερασιν ψευδους

¹⁰και εν παση απατη της αδικιας εν τοις απολλυμενοις ανθ ων την αγαπην της αληθειας ουκ εδεξαντο εις το σωθηναι αυτους

¹¹και δια τουτο πεμψει αυτοις ο θεος ενεργειαν πλανης εις το πιστευσαι αυτους τω ψευδει

¹²ινα κριθωσιν παντες οι μη πιστευσαντες τη αληθεια αλλ ευδοκησαντες εν τη αδικια

2 And we ask you, brethren, in regard to the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together unto him,

²that ye be not quickly shaken in mind, nor be troubled, neither through spirit, neither through word, neither through letters as through us, as that the day of Christ hath arrived;

³let not any one deceive you in any manner, because -- if the falling away may not come first, and the man of sin be revealed -- the son of the destruction,

⁴who is opposing and is raising himself up above all called God or worshipped, so that he in the sanctuary of God as God hath sat down, shewing himself off that he is God -- [the day doth not come].

⁵Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, these things I said to you?

⁶and now, what is keeping down ye have known, for his being revealed in his own time,

⁷for the secret of the lawlessness doth already work, only he who is keeping down now [will hinder] -- till he may be out of the way,

⁸and then shall be revealed the Lawless One, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the manifestation of his presence,

⁹[him,] whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary, in all power, and signs, and lying wonders,

¹⁰and in all deceitfulness of the unrighteousness in those perishing, because the love of the truth they did not receive for their being saved,

¹¹and because of this shall God send to them a working of delusion, for their believing the lie,

¹²that they may be judged -- all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness.

2 Now we ask you, ^(A)brothers and sisters, regarding the ^[a]^(B)coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our ^(C)gathering together to Him, ²that you not be quickly shaken from your ^[b]composure or be disturbed either by a ^(D)spirit, or a ^[c]^(E)message, or a ^(F)letter as if from us, to the effect that ^(G)the day of the Lord ^(H)has come. ³^(I)No one is to deceive you in any way!
