Herren lovar David evig makt

(1 Krön 17:1-15)

7 När David hade bott en tid i sitt nya palats[a] och Herren hade låtit honom få ro för alla hans fiender runt omkring, 2 sa kungen till profeten Natan: ”Här bor jag i ett hus med väggar av cederträ, medan Guds ark får stå i ett tält!”

3 ”Gå, gör vad du har i sinnet”, svarade Natan, ”för Herren är med dig.”

4 Men samma natt kom Herrens ord till Natan:

5 ”Gå och säg till min tjänare David: Så säger Herren: Skulle du bygga ett hus åt mig att bo i? 6 Jag har aldrig bott i hus utan i ett tält och i en boning som har flyttats från plats till plats ända sedan jag förde Israels folk ut ur Egypten. 7 Under hela denna tid som jag förflyttat mig med israeliterna har jag väl aldrig frågat någon av Israels stammar, de som jag utsåg till herdar för mitt folk Israel, varför de inte byggt mig ett hus av cederträ?

8 Säg så här till min tjänare David: ’Så säger härskarornas Herre: Jag tog dig från betesmarken och fåren när du var en herde och har gjort dig till furste över mitt folk Israel. 9 Jag har varit med dig vart du än gått. Jag har utrotat dina fiender framför dig. Jag ska göra dig ett stort namn, lika ryktbart som de största på hela jorden. 10 Jag ska bereda en plats åt mitt folk Israel i ett land där de kan få ett hem utan att bli störda. Ogudaktiga folk ska inte längre kunna hota dem som de gjorde tidigare, 11 på den tiden när jag tillsatte domare över mitt folk Israel. Själv ska du få leva i fred för alla dina fiender.

Nu kungör Herren att han ska bygga ett hus åt dig. 12 När dina dagar är till ända och du vilar hos dina förfäder, ska jag upphöja din avkomling[b] som skall utgå ur ditt liv på din tron, och jag ska befästa hans kungarike. 13 Han är den som ska bygga ett hus åt mitt namn och jag ska befästa hans tron för evigt. 14 Jag ska vara hans Far, och han ska vara min son.[c] Om han syndar, ska jag straffa honom med ris och slag, så som människor agar sina barn, 15 men min nåd ska inte vika från honom, som den vek från Saul som jag tog bort från dig. 16 Din familj och ditt kungavälde ska bestå inför mig i evighet och din tron ska bestå i evighet.’ ”

17 Natan berättade för David allt det som Herren hade sagt och uppenbarat.

David tar emot Herrens välsignelse

(1 Krön 17:16-27)

18 Då gick kung David in och satte sig inför Herren och sa:

”Herre, Herre, vem är jag och vad är min familj, eftersom du har fört mig ända hit? 19 Skulle inte det du redan har gjort vara nog i dina ögon, Herre, Herre? Nu har du också berättat om framtiden för din tjänares ätt! Brukar du Herre, Herre, verkligen göra så mycket för människor?[d] 20 Vad ska David mera säga till dig? Du känner din tjänare, Herre, Herre. 21 För ditt eget löftes skull och enligt din vilja har du gjort allt detta stora och låtit mig, din tjänare få veta det. 22 Herre, Herre, du är stor, det finns ingen som du! Det finns ingen annan Gud än du! Det har vi hört med våra egna öron. 23 Vilket folk på jorden är som ditt folk, som Israel? Det är den enda nation på jorden med en Gud som har lett och räddat den åt sig som sin egen, för att göra sitt namn[e] känt genom stora och mäktiga under. Sådant gjorde du när du fördrev andra folk för ditt folk som du har räddat ut ur Egypten, från folk och deras gudar. 24 Du utvalde Israel till ditt eget folk för evigt, och du, Herre, har blivit deras Gud.

25 Herre Gud, låt nu det ord stå fast som du har talat om mig, din tjänare, och om min ätt, och gör vad du lovat. 26 Då kommer ditt namn att bli ärat i evighet och man ska säga: ’Härskarornas Herre är Gud över Israel’. Och din tjänare Davids hus kommer att bestå inför dig. 27 Du, härskarornas Herre, Israels Gud, har uppenbarat för mig, din tjänare, att du vill bygga ett hus åt mig. Därför har jag, din tjänare, frimodighet att be denna bön. 28 Du, Herre, Herre, är Gud! Dina ord skall visa sig sanning, och du har lovat mig, din tjänare, allt detta underbara. 29 Välsigna därför din tjänares hus, så att det får bestå inför dig för evigt, så som du, Herre, Herre, har lovat! Låt din välsignelse för evigt bli kvar över din tjänares hus.”

Guds löfte till David

7 (A) När kungen nu satt i sitt hus och Herren hade gett honom ro från alla hans fiender runt omkring, 2 (B) sade han till profeten Natan:[a] ”Här bor jag i ett hus av cederträ, medan Guds ark bor i ett tält.” 3 Natan sade till kungen: ”Gå och gör allt som ligger på ditt hjärta, för Herren är med dig.”

4 Men den natten kom Herrens ord till Natan: 5 (C) ”Gå och säg till min tjänare David: Så säger Herren: Skulle du bygga mig ett hus att bo i? 6 (D) Jag har inte bott i något hus från den dag jag förde Israels barn upp ur Egypten ända till i dag, utan jag har flyttat omkring i ett tält, i ett tabernakel. 7 Har jag någonsin där jag flyttat omkring med alla Israels barn talat och sagt så till någon enda av Israels stammar, någon som jag satt till herde för mitt folk Israel: Varför har ni inte byggt mig ett hus av cederträ?

8 (E) Nu ska du säga så till min tjänare David: Så säger Herren Sebaot: Det var jag som hämtade dig från betesmarken där du följde fåren, till att bli furste över mitt folk Israel. 9 Jag har varit med dig på alla dina vägar och utrotat alla dina fiender för dig, och jag ska göra dig ett stort namn, som de största namnen på jorden. 10 (F) Jag ska bereda en plats åt mitt folk Israel och plantera det så att det får bo kvar och inte oroas mer. Onda människor ska inte förtrycka det mer som förr, 11 sedan tiden då jag satte domare över mitt folk Israel. Jag ska låta dig få ro från alla dina fiender.

Nu förkunnar Herren för dig att Herren ska bygga ett hus[b] åt dig. 12 (G) När din tid är slut och du vilar hos dina fäder ska jag efter dig upphöja din avkomling[c] som ska utgå ur ditt liv, och jag ska befästa hans kungadöme. 13 (H) Han ska bygga ett hus åt mitt namn, och jag ska befästa hans kungatron för evigt. 14 (I) Jag ska vara hans far och han ska vara min son. Gör han något orättfärdigt ska jag straffa honom med människors ris och med plågor som drabbar människors barn.[d] 15 (J) Men min nåd ska inte vika från honom, så som jag lät den vika från Saul, som jag lät vika för dig. 16 Ditt hus och ditt kungadöme ska bestå inför mig till evig tid. Din tron ska vara befäst för evig tid.”

Davids bön

17 Alla dessa ord och hela denna uppenbarelse talade Natan till David. 18 (K) Då gick kung David in och satte sig inför Herrens ansikte och sade: ”Vem är jag, Herre Gud, och vad är mitt hus, eftersom du har fört mig ända hit? 19 Och ändå var det för lite i dina ögon, Herre Gud.

Nu har du också talat om din tjänares hus i framtiden, och detta till undervisning för människorna, Herre Gud. 20 (L) Vad ska David säga mera till dig? Du känner din tjänare, Herre Gud. 21 För ditt ords skull och efter ditt hjärta har du gjort allt detta stora och gjort det känt för din tjänare. 22 (M) Därför är du stor, Herre Gud, för ingen är som du, och det finns ingen annan Gud än du efter allt vi har hört med våra öron. 23 (N) Finns det något enda folk på jorden som ditt folk Israel, det som Gud själv kom och friköpte åt sig som sitt eget, för att göra sitt namn känt? Du har gjort storverk för dem och förunderliga ting för ditt land och inför ögonen på ditt folk som du friköpt från Egypten, från hednafolken och deras gudar. 24 Du har gjort ditt folk Israel till ditt folk för evig tid, och du, Herre, har blivit deras Gud.

25 Så uppfyll nu, min Herre och Gud, för evigt det ord du har talat om din tjänare och om hans hus. Gör som du har lovat. 26 Då ska ditt namn upphöjas för evigt och man ska säga: Herren Sebaot är Gud över Israel. Så ska din tjänare Davids hus bestå inför dig. 27 För du, Herre Sebaot, Israels Gud, har uppenbarat för din tjänare och sagt: Jag ska bygga dig ett hus. Därför har din tjänare funnit frimodighet att be denna bön till dig.

28 Och nu, Herre Gud, du är Gud, och dina ord är sanning, och du har lovat din tjänare detta goda. 29 Var nu god och välsigna din tjänares hus så att det blir kvar inför dig för evigt. För du, Herre Gud, har talat, och genom din välsignelse ska din tjänares hus bli välsignat för evigt.”

God’s Promise to David(A)

7 After the king was settled in his palace(B) and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies(C) around him,(D) 2 he said to Nathan(E) the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house(F) of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”(G)

3 Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind,(H) go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.”

4 But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying:

5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you(I) the one to build me a house to dwell in?(J) 6 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day.(K) I have been moving from place to place with a tent(L) as my dwelling.(M) 7 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites,(N) did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd(O) my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house(P) of cedar?(Q)”’

8 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock,(R) and appointed you ruler(S) over my people Israel.(T) 9 I have been with you wherever you have gone,(U) and I have cut off all your enemies from before you.(V) Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth.(W) 10 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant(X) them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed.(Y) Wicked(Z) people will not oppress them anymore,(AA) as they did at the beginning 11 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders[a](AB) over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies.(AC)

“‘The Lord declares(AD) to you that the Lord himself will establish(AE) a house(AF) for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest(AG) with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood,(AH) and I will establish his kingdom.(AI) 13 He is the one who will build a house(AJ) for my Name,(AK) and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.(AL) 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son.(AM) When he does wrong, I will punish him(AN) with a rod(AO) wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him,(AP) as I took it away from Saul,(AQ) whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me[b]; your throne(AR) will be established(AS) forever.(AT)’”

17 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.

David’s Prayer(AU)

18 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:

“Who am I,(AV) Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 19 And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree,(AW) Sovereign Lord, is for a mere human![c]

20 “What more can David say(AX) to you? For you know(AY) your servant,(AZ) Sovereign Lord. 21 For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant.

22 “How great(BA) you are,(BB) Sovereign Lord! There is no one like(BC) you, and there is no God(BD) but you, as we have heard with our own ears.(BE) 23 And who is like your people Israel(BF)—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name(BG) for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders(BH) by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed(BI) from Egypt?[d] 24 You have established your people Israel as your very own(BJ) forever, and you, Lord, have become their God.(BK)

25 “And now, Lord God, keep forever the promise(BL) you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised, 26 so that your name(BM) will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The Lord Almighty is God over Israel!’ And the house of your servant David will be established(BN) in your sight.

27 “Lord Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you.’ So your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. 28 Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy,(BO) and you have promised these good things to your servant. 29 Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign Lord, have spoken, and with your blessing(BP) the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”

God’s Covenant with David(A)

7 Now it came to pass (B)when the king was dwelling in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies all around, 2 that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in (C)a house of cedar, (D)but the ark of God dwells inside tent (E)curtains.”

3 Then Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your (F)heart, for the Lord is with you.”

4 But it happened that night that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying, 5 “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: (G)“Would you build a house for Me to dwell in? 6 For I have not dwelt in a house (H)since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in (I)a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 Wherever I have (J)moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded (K)to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ ” ’ 8 Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: (L)“I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. 9 And (M)I have been with you wherever you have gone, (N)and have [a]cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. 10 Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will (O)plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; (P)nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously, 11 (Q)since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord [b]tells you (R)that He will make you a [c]house.

12 (S)“When your days are fulfilled and you (T)rest with your fathers, (U)I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 (V)He shall build a house for My name, and I will (W)establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 (X)I will be his Father, and he shall be (Y)My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the [d]blows of the sons of men. 15 But My mercy shall not depart from him, (Z)as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 And (AA)your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before [e]you. Your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”

17 According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

David’s Thanksgiving to God(AB)

18 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: (AC)“Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far? 19 And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord God; and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come. (AD)Is this the manner of man, O Lord God? 20 Now what more can David say to You? For You, Lord God, (AE)know Your servant. 21 For Your word’s sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them. 22 Therefore (AF)You are great, [f]O Lord God. For (AG)there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our (AH)ears. 23 And who is like Your people, like Israel, (AI)the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name—and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land—before (AJ)Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations, and their gods? 24 For (AK)You have made Your people Israel Your very own people forever; (AL)and You, Lord, have become their God.

25 “Now, O Lord God, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have said. 26 So let Your name be magnified forever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts is the God over Israel.’ And let the house of Your servant David be established before You. 27 For You, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You.

28 “And now, O Lord God, You are God, and (AM)Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant. 29 Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You, O Lord God, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed (AN)forever.”
