Palabra de Dios para Todos

Dios hace una promesa a David

(1 Cr 17:1-15)

7 Cuando el rey David se instaló en su palacio, el SEÑOR le dio descanso de todos los enemigos que lo rodeaban. 2 El rey David le dijo al profeta Natán:

—Mira, ahora vivo en una buena casa hecha de cedro, mientras que el cofre de Dios se encuentra en una carpa.

3 Natán le respondió:

—Disponga Su Majestad, que el SEÑOR está con usted.

4 Pero aquella noche, la palabra del SEÑOR vino a Natán, diciendo:

5 «Dile a mi siervo David que el SEÑOR dice: “No eres tú quien me construirá una casa para que yo viva en ella. 6 Cuando saqué de Egipto al pueblo de Israel, no vivía en una casa, sino que viajaba en una carpa que era mi casa. 7 He estado por todo Israel pero ¿acaso he pedido a alguno de los jefes que elegí para que guiara a mi pueblo que me construyera una casa de cedro?” 8 También dile: “Esto dice el SEÑOR Todopoderoso: Yo te elegí cuando pastoreabas las ovejas, te saqué de eso y te hice el líder de mi pueblo, Israel. 9 He estado contigo dondequiera que has ido. He derrotado a tus enemigos y te haré uno de los personajes más famosos del mundo. 10 También elegí un lugar para mi pueblo Israel. Lo he establecido en ese lugar para que tenga un sitio propio y allí nadie los moleste ni la gente mala los oprima como sucedió antes, 11 cuando envié jefes para que dirigieran al pueblo de Israel. Te libraré de todos tus enemigos y yo, el SEÑOR, quiero que sepas que te daré descendencia.[a]

12 »”Cuando llegues al final de tu vida, morirás y serás sepultado con tus antepasados, pero entonces haré rey a uno de tus hijos y protegeré su reino. 13 Él me construirá una casa para mi nombre, y yo fortaleceré su reino para siempre. 14 Yo seré su padre y él será mi hijo.[b] Cuando peque, lo castigaré como un padre azota a su hijo. 15 Pero yo nunca le quitaré mi fiel amor, como se lo quité a Saúl a quien hice a un lado cuando me dirigí a ti. 16 Puedes estar seguro de que en tu familia seguirá habiendo reyes. Porque yo te favorezco, tu dinastía durará para siempre”».

17 Natán le informó a David sobre esa visión y todo lo que Dios había dicho.

Oración de David

18 Entonces el rey David fue y se sentó en la presencia del SEÑOR[c] y le dijo:

«Mi Señor DIOS, ¿por qué soy tan importante para ti? ¿Por qué es importante mi familia? ¿Por qué me has hecho tan importante? 19 Mi Señor DIOS, he recibido tanto y aun así te ha parecido poco, pues me has hecho a mí, siervo tuyo, grandes promesas sobre el futuro de mi dinastía. ¿Es esta la manera que usas para tratar con la gente, Oh Señor mi DIOS?[d] 20 ¿Qué más puedo decirte? Mi Señor DIOS, tú sabes que yo sólo soy un siervo. 21 Has hecho todo esto que es tan grande para tu siervo[e] porque así lo decidiste, y todo esto se lo has revelado a tu siervo. 22 Mi Señor DIOS, ¡por eso eres tan grande! Todo lo que hemos escuchado con nuestros propios oídos nos lleva a una sola conclusión: tú eres el único Dios y no existe nadie como tú. 23 ¿Qué otra nación en la tierra es como tu pueblo Israel? Tú lo salvaste para hacerlo tu pueblo e hiciste que tu nombre se conociera al hacer por tu pueblo prodigios y maravillas. Tú expulsaste a las naciones y a sus dioses delante de tu pueblo que rescataste de Egipto.[f] 24 SEÑOR, tú mismo te convertiste en Dios de Israel y lo hiciste tu pueblo. Israel es tu pueblo por siempre y tú eres su Dios.

25 »Ahora, SEÑOR mi Dios, confirma para siempre tu promesa con respecto a mí, tu siervo, y a mi dinastía. Haz conforme a todo lo que has dicho. 26 Entonces tu nombre recibirá honor por siempre y el pueblo dirá: “El SEÑOR Dios Todopoderoso reina sobre Israel. Que la dinastía de tu siervo David siga fuerte a tu servicio”. 27 Tú, SEÑOR Todopoderoso, Dios de Israel, has revelado a tu siervo que establecerás mi dinastía, por eso yo, tu siervo, me he atrevido a hacer esta oración. 28 Mi Señor DIOS, tú eres Dios y tus palabras son verdaderas. Tú le has prometido todo este bien a tu siervo. 29 Te ruego el favor de bendecir a mi dinastía para que siga por siempre a tu servicio. Mi Señor DIOS, como lo prometiste, has bendecido a mi dinastía de una manera que será bendita para siempre».

God’s Promise to David(A)

7 After the king was settled in his palace(B) and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies(C) around him,(D) 2 he said to Nathan(E) the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house(F) of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”(G)

3 Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind,(H) go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.”

4 But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying:

5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you(I) the one to build me a house to dwell in?(J) 6 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day.(K) I have been moving from place to place with a tent(L) as my dwelling.(M) 7 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites,(N) did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd(O) my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house(P) of cedar?(Q)”’

8 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock,(R) and appointed you ruler(S) over my people Israel.(T) 9 I have been with you wherever you have gone,(U) and I have cut off all your enemies from before you.(V) Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth.(W) 10 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant(X) them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed.(Y) Wicked(Z) people will not oppress them anymore,(AA) as they did at the beginning 11 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders[a](AB) over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies.(AC)

“‘The Lord declares(AD) to you that the Lord himself will establish(AE) a house(AF) for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest(AG) with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood,(AH) and I will establish his kingdom.(AI) 13 He is the one who will build a house(AJ) for my Name,(AK) and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.(AL) 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son.(AM) When he does wrong, I will punish him(AN) with a rod(AO) wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him,(AP) as I took it away from Saul,(AQ) whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me[b]; your throne(AR) will be established(AS) forever.(AT)’”

17 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.

David’s Prayer(AU)

18 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:

“Who am I,(AV) Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 19 And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree,(AW) Sovereign Lord, is for a mere human![c]

20 “What more can David say(AX) to you? For you know(AY) your servant,(AZ) Sovereign Lord. 21 For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant.

22 “How great(BA) you are,(BB) Sovereign Lord! There is no one like(BC) you, and there is no God(BD) but you, as we have heard with our own ears.(BE) 23 And who is like your people Israel(BF)—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name(BG) for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders(BH) by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed(BI) from Egypt?[d] 24 You have established your people Israel as your very own(BJ) forever, and you, Lord, have become their God.(BK)

25 “And now, Lord God, keep forever the promise(BL) you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised, 26 so that your name(BM) will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The Lord Almighty is God over Israel!’ And the house of your servant David will be established(BN) in your sight.

27 “Lord Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you.’ So your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. 28 Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy,(BO) and you have promised these good things to your servant. 29 Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign Lord, have spoken, and with your blessing(BP) the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”

The Lord's Covenant with David

7 (A)Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord (B)had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, 2 the king said to (C)Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell (D)in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells (E)in a tent.” 3 And Nathan said to the king, (F)“Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.”

4 But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, 5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: (G)Would you build me a house to dwell in? 6 I have not lived in a house (H)since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about (I)in a tent for my dwelling. 7 In all places where (J)I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with (K)any of the judges[a] of Israel, whom I commanded (L)to shepherd my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”’ 8 Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, (M)I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince[b] over my people Israel. 9 (N)And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. 10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel (O)and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place (P)and be disturbed no more. (Q)And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, 11 (R)from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And (S)I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that (T)the Lord will make you a house. 12 (U)When your days are fulfilled and (V)you lie down with your fathers, (W)I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body,[c] and I will establish his kingdom. 13 (X)He shall build a house for my name, and (Y)I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 (Z)I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, (AA)I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, 15 (AB)but my steadfast love will not depart from him, (AC)as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16 (AD)And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me.[d] (AE)Your throne shall be established forever.’” 17 In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.

David's Prayer of Gratitude

18 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and said, (AF)“Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? 19 And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O Lord God. (AG)You have spoken also of your servant's house for a great while to come, and this is instruction for mankind, O Lord God! 20 And what more can David say to you? (AH)For you know your servant, O Lord God! 21 Because of your promise, and according to your own heart, you have brought about all this greatness, to make your servant know it. 22 (AI)Therefore you are great, O Lord God. (AJ)For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 23 (AK)And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name (AL)and doing for them[e] great and awesome things by driving out before your people,[f] whom (AM)you redeemed for yourself from Egypt, a nation and its gods? 24 (AN)And you established for yourself your people Israel to be your people forever. And you, O Lord, became their God. 25 And now, O Lord God, confirm forever the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, and do as you have spoken. 26 And your name will be magnified forever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts is God over Israel,’ and the house of your servant David will be established before you. 27 For you, O Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have made this revelation to your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. 28 And now, O Lord God, you are God, and (AO)your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. 29 Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord God, have spoken, (AP)and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever.”
