David's Kindness to Mephibosheth

9 And David said, “Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may ^(A)show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?”

⁴² Then Jonathan said to David, ^(A)“Go in peace, because we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord, saying, ^(B)‘The Lord shall be between me and you, ^(C)and between my offspring and your offspring, forever.’” And he rose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.^[a]

¹⁴ If I am still alive, show me the steadfast love of the Lord, that I may not die; ^15 (A)and do not cut off^[a] your steadfast love from my house forever, when the Lord cuts off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth.” ¹⁶ And Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, ^(B)“May^[b] the Lord take vengeance on David's enemies.” ¹⁷ And Jonathan made David swear again by his love for him, ^(C)for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

⁴¹ For truly, I say to you, ^(A)whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.

Suffering for Righteousness' Sake

⁸ Finally, all of you, ^(A)have unity of mind, sympathy, ^(B)brotherly love, ^(C)a tender heart, and ^(D)a humble mind.

⁹ yet for love's sake I prefer to appeal to you—I, Paul, an old man and now ^(A)a prisoner also for Christ Jesus— ¹⁰ I appeal to you for ^(B)my child, ^(C)Onesimus,^{[a] (D)}whose father I became in my imprisonment. ¹¹ (Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.) ¹² I am sending him back to you, sending my very heart.

²⁶ When Jesus saw his mother and ^(A)the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, ^(B)“Woman, behold, your son!” ²⁷ Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to ^(C)his own home.

⁴⁰ And ^(A)the King will answer them, ^(B)‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these ^(C)my brothers,^[a] you did it to me.’

⁴² And ^(A)whoever gives one of ^(B)these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
