²⁶ Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. And David was hurrying to get away from Saul. As Saul and his men were closing in on David and his men to capture them, ²⁷ a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have made a raid against the land.”

^11 (A)Saul sent messengers to David's house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But Michal, David's wife, told him, “If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.” ^12 (B)So Michal let David down through the window, and he fled away and escaped. ¹³ Michal took ^(C)an image^[a] and laid it on the bed and put a pillow of goats' hair at its head and covered it with the clothes. ¹⁴ And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, “He is sick.” ¹⁵ Then Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.” ¹⁶ And when the messengers came in, behold, ^(D)the image was in the bed, with the pillow of goats' hair at its head. ¹⁷ Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me thus and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?” And Michal answered Saul, “He said to me, ‘Let me go. ^(E)Why should I kill you?’”

³⁹ And ^(A)those who passed by ^(B)derided him, ^(C)wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, ^(D)“You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! ^(E)If you are ^(F)the Son of God, come down from the cross.” ⁴¹ So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, ^42 (G)“He saved others; ^(H)he cannot save himself. ^(I)He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. ^43 (J)He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” ^44 (K)And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.
