O rei e a sunamita
8 Eliseu falou com a mulher cujo filho ele tinha revivido. Ele lhe disse:
—Você e a sua família devem se mudar para outro país, porque o SENHOR tem decidido que haverá uma fome aqui. Durará sete anos.
2 Então a mulher fez o que o homem de Deus tinha lhe falado. Ela foi morar com a sua família na terra dos filisteus por sete anos. 3 Depois desse tempo regressou para a sua terra e foi falar com o rei para averiguar como recuperar sua casa e terras.
4 O rei estava conversando com Geazi, o servo do homem de Deus. O rei lhe dizia:
—Por favor, me conte todas as coisas maravilhosas que Eliseu fez.
5 Geazi contou sobre aquela vez que Eliseu ressuscitou a um morto. Nesse momento, a mulher cujo filho Eliseu tinha revivido se aproximou do rei, já que queria recuperar a sua casa e terra. Geazi a viu e disse:
—Meu senhor e rei, esta é a mulher e este é o filho que Eliseu fez voltar à vida!
6 O rei lhe perguntou o que ela queria e depois lhe designou um oficial para que se encarregasse de devolver a ela tudo o que lhe pertencia. Inclusive, todas as colheitas produzidas desde que ela saiu de Israel até o dia que regressou.
Ben-Hadade e Hazael
7 Depois Eliseu foi a Damasco. Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, estava doente e lhe informaram que tinha chegado o homem de Deus. 8 Então o rei Ben-Hadade disse a Hazael:
—Leve um presente e vá ao encontro do homem de Deus. Peça-lhe que pergunte ao SENHOR se vou sarar desta doença ou não.
9 Então Hazael saiu ao encontro de Eliseu levando consigo um presente com tudo de bom que há em Damasco. Foram necessários quarenta camelos para carregar tudo. Ao chegar diante de Eliseu, Hazael disse:
—Seu seguidor[a], Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, me enviou para lhe perguntar se ele vai sarar da sua doença.
10 Então Eliseu disse a Hazael:
—Ande e diga a Ben-Hadade que vai sarar, mas a verdade é que o SENHOR me disse que de qualquer maneira vai morrer.
11 Eliseu olhou fixamente a Hazael até Hazael ficar envergonhado. O homem de Deus começou a chorar. 12 Hazael lhe perguntou:
—Senhor, por que chora?
Eliseu respondeu:
—Choro porque eu sei o mal que você fará aos israelitas. Você incendiará as suas cidades fortificadas. Matará à espada os seus jovens e os seus bebês e abrirá os ventre das mulheres grávidas.
13 Hazael disse:
—Eu não sou mais do que um cão, como posso fazer tais coisas?
Eliseu respondeu:
—O SENHOR me mostrou que você será o rei da Síria.
14 Então Hazael se retirou de onde estava Eliseu e foi ver o rei.[b] Ben-Hadade perguntou a Hazael:
—Que lhe disse Eliseu?
Hazael respondeu:
—Eliseu me disse que você viverá.
15 Mas no dia seguinte Hazael pegou um trapo molhado, cobriu o rosto de Ben-Hadade e o sufocou. Ao morrer Ben-Hadade, Hazael reinou no seu lugar.
Reinado de Jorão em Judá
16 Jeorão, filho de Josafá, começou a reinar em Judá no quinto ano do reinado de Jorão, filho de Acabe, rei de Israel.[c] 17 Jeorão tinha trinta e dois anos quando começou seu reinado e governou oito anos em Jerusalém. 18 Mas Jeorão atuou como os reis de Israel e fez o que não agradava ao SENHOR. Jeorão atuou como a família de Acabe porque a sua esposa era filha de Acabe. 19 Mas o SENHOR não destruiu o povo de Judá por causa da promessa que havia feito com Davi. Ele tinha prometido que sempre reinaria alguém da sua família.
20 No tempo de Jeorão, o país de Edom se rebelou contra Judá e nomeou o seu próprio rei. 21 Então Jeorão foi a Zair com todos os seus carros de combate. O exército edomita os rodeou, mas ele atacou durante a noite e conseguiu fugir. Os soldados de Jeorão fugiram cada um para a sua casa. 22 Assim Edom se rebelou contra Judá e até hoje mantém a sua independência. Nessa mesma época, Libna também se rebelou contra Judá.
23 Tudo o que Jeorão fez está escrito em As Crônicas dos Reis de Judá. 24 Jeorão morreu e foi sepultado com os seus antepassados na Cidade de Davi. Acazias, filho de Jeorão, reinou no seu lugar.
Reinado de Acazias em Judá
25 Acazias, filho de Jeorão, começou a reinar em Judá no ano doze do reinado de Jeorão,[d] filho de Acabe, rei de Israel. 26 Acazias tinha vinte e dois anos quando começou a reinar, e governou um ano em Jerusalém. Sua mãe se chamava Atalia, a qual era filha de Onri, rei de Israel. 27 Acazias fez o que o SENHOR considerava mau, assim como fez a família de Acabe porque a sua esposa era da família de Acabe.
28 Acazias se aliou com Jorão, filho de Acabe, para combater em Ramote-Gileade contra Hazael, rei da Síria. Na batalha os sírios feriram Jorão. 29 Por isso o rei Jorão teve que voltar a Jezreel, para se recuperar das suas feridas. Acazias, filho de Jeorão, rei de Judá, foi visitá-lo.

The King Restores the Shunammite’s Land
8 Then Elisha spoke to the woman (A)whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise and go, you and your household, and stay wherever you can; for the Lord (B)has called for a (C)famine, and furthermore, it will come upon the land for seven years.” 2 So the woman arose and did according to the saying of the man of God, and she went with her household and dwelt in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 It came to pass, at the end of seven years, that the woman returned from the land of the Philistines; and she went to make an appeal to the king for her house and for her land. 4 Then the king talked with (D)Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, “Tell me, please, all the great things Elisha has done.” 5 Now it happened, as he was telling the king how he had restored the dead to life, that there was the woman whose son he had (E)restored to life, appealing to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” 6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him.
So the king appointed a certain officer for her, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the land until now.”
Death of Ben-Hadad
7 Then Elisha went to Damascus, and (F)Ben-Hadad king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, “The man of God has come here.” 8 And the king said to (G)Hazael, (H)“Take a present in your hand, and go to meet the man of God, and (I)inquire of the Lord by him, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this disease?’ ” 9 So (J)Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, of every good thing of Damascus, forty camel-loads; and he came and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this disease?’ ”
10 And Elisha said to him, “Go, say to him, ‘You shall certainly recover.’ However the Lord has shown me that (K)he will really die.” 11 Then he [a]set his countenance in a stare until he was ashamed; and the man of God (L)wept. 12 And Hazael said, “Why is my lord weeping?”
He answered, “Because I know (M)the evil that you will do to the children of Israel: Their strongholds you will set on fire, and their young men you will kill with the sword; and you (N)will dash their children, and rip open their women with child.”
13 So Hazael said, “But what (O)is your servant—a dog, that he should do this gross thing?”
And Elisha answered, (P)“The Lord has shown me that you will become king over Syria.”
14 Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?” And he answered, “He told me you would surely recover.” 15 But it happened on the next day that he took a thick cloth and dipped it in water, and spread it over his face so that he died; and Hazael reigned in his place.
Jehoram Reigns in Judah(Q)
16 Now (R)in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat having been king of Judah, (S)Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat began to reign as [b]king of Judah. 17 He was (T)thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for (U)the daughter of Ahab was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord. 19 Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah, for the sake of His servant David, (V)as He promised him to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.
20 In his days (W)Edom revolted against Judah’s authority, (X)and made a king over themselves. 21 So [c]Joram went to Zair, and all his chariots with him. Then he rose by night and attacked the Edomites who had surrounded him and the captains of the chariots; and the troops fled to their tents. 22 Thus Edom has been in revolt against Judah’s authority to this day. (Y)And Libnah revolted at that time.
23 Now the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 24 So Joram [d]rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. Then (Z)Ahaziah[e] his son reigned in his place.
Ahaziah Reigns in Judah(AA)
25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, began to reign. 26 Ahaziah was (AB)twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah the granddaughter of Omri, king of Israel. 27 (AC)And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab, for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.
28 Now he went (AD)with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at (AE)Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram. 29 Then (AF)King Joram went back to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which the Syrians had inflicted on him at [f]Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. (AG)And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

The Shunammite’s Land Restored
8 Now Elisha had said to the woman(A) whose son he had restored to life, “Go away with your family and stay for a while wherever you can, because the Lord has decreed a famine(B) in the land that will last seven years.”(C) 2 The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 At the end of the seven years she came back from the land of the Philistines and went to appeal to the king for her house and land. 4 The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and had said, “Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.” 5 Just as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had restored(D) the dead to life, the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life came to appeal to the king for her house and land.
Gehazi said, “This is the woman, my lord the king, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” 6 The king asked the woman about it, and she told him.
Then he assigned an official to her case and said to him, “Give back everything that belonged to her, including all the income from her land from the day she left the country until now.”
Hazael Murders Ben-Hadad
7 Elisha went to Damascus,(E) and Ben-Hadad(F) king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, “The man of God has come all the way up here,” 8 he said to Hazael,(G) “Take a gift(H) with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult(I) the Lord through him; ask him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
9 Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
10 Elisha answered, “Go and say to him, ‘You will certainly recover.’(J) Nevertheless,[a] the Lord has revealed to me that he will in fact die.” 11 He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael was embarrassed.(K) Then the man of God began to weep.(L)
12 “Why is my lord weeping?” asked Hazael.
“Because I know the harm(M) you will do to the Israelites,” he answered. “You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash(N) their little children(O) to the ground, and rip open(P) their pregnant women.”
13 Hazael said, “How could your servant, a mere dog,(Q) accomplish such a feat?”
“The Lord has shown me that you will become king(R) of Aram,” answered Elisha.
14 Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. When Ben-Hadad asked, “What did Elisha say to you?” Hazael replied, “He told me that you would certainly recover.” 15 But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king’s face, so that he died.(S) Then Hazael succeeded him as king.
Jehoram King of Judah(T)
16 In the fifth year of Joram(U) son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram(V) son of Jehoshaphat began his reign as king of Judah. 17 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 18 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter(W) of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 19 Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy(X) Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp(Y) for David and his descendants forever.
20 In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king.(Z) 21 So Jehoram[b] went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night; his army, however, fled back home. 22 To this day Edom has been in rebellion(AA) against Judah. Libnah(AB) revolted at the same time.
23 As for the other events of Jehoram’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 24 Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.
Ahaziah King of Judah(AC)
25 In the twelfth(AD) year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. 26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah,(AE) a granddaughter of Omri(AF) king of Israel. 27 He followed the ways of the house of Ahab(AG) and did evil(AH) in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was related by marriage to Ahab’s family.
28 Ahaziah went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead.(AI) The Arameans wounded Joram; 29 so King Joram returned to Jezreel(AJ) to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramoth[c] in his battle with Hazael(AK) king of Aram.
Then Ahaziah(AL) son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he had been wounded.

12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The Lord hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.
15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Je hoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.
19 Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
