A mulher de Suném volta para a sua terra
8 Eliseu tinha dito à mulher que morava em Suném, a mãe do menino que ele tinha ressuscitado, que o Senhor Deus tinha avisado que ia haver uma grande falta de alimentos. Disse também que a fome ia durar sete anos naquela terra e, por isso, ela devia sair de lá com a sua família e ir morar em outro lugar. 2 Ela havia seguido o conselho do profeta e tinha ido com a sua família morar na terra dos filisteus, onde ficou sete anos.
3 Quando passaram os sete anos, ela voltou para Israel e foi falar com o rei a fim de pedir que devolvessem a sua casa e as suas terras. 4 O rei estava falando com Geazi, o empregado de Eliseu, pois queria saber dos milagres que Eliseu havia feito. 5 Geazi estava contando ao rei como Eliseu havia feito um morto viver de novo. Nesse momento a mulher chegou para fazer o seu pedido ao rei. Então Geazi disse:
— Ó rei, aqui está a mulher, e aqui está o filho dela que Eliseu ressuscitou.
6 O rei fez perguntas à mulher, e ela confirmou a história de Geazi. Então o rei chamou um oficial e lhe disse que devolvesse à mulher tudo o que era dela e também o valor de todas as colheitas que as suas terras haviam produzido durante os sete anos em que ela havia estado fora.
Eliseu e o rei da Síria
7 Eliseu foi até a cidade de Damasco numa época em que o rei Ben-Hadade, da Síria, estava doente. Quando o rei soube que Eliseu estava lá, 8 disse a Hazael, um dos seus oficiais:
— Leve um presente para o profeta e peça a ele que consulte a Deus, o Senhor, para saber se vou ficar bom.
9 Então Hazael carregou quarenta camelos com todos os tipos dos mais finos produtos de Damasco e foi falar com Eliseu. Quando se encontrou com ele, disse:
— O rei Ben-Hadade, que é como se fosse seu filho, mandou perguntar ao senhor se ele vai ficar bom da sua doença.
10 Eliseu disse:
— O Senhor Deus me disse que o rei vai morrer; mas diga a ele que ele vai ficar bom.
11 E ficou olhando firmemente para Hazael durante tanto tempo, que ele ficou sem jeito. De repente, Eliseu começou a chorar, 12 e Hazael perguntou:
— Por que é que o senhor está chorando?
Eliseu respondeu:
— Porque sei das coisas terríveis que você vai fazer contra o povo de Israel.
E continuou:
— Você vai pôr fogo nas fortalezas de Israel, vai matar os moços, esmagar as crianças e rasgar a barriga das mulheres grávidas.
13 — Como poderia eu chegar a ser tão poderoso? — perguntou Hazael. — Eu não sou ninguém!
— O Senhor Deus me mostrou que você vai ser o rei da Síria! — respondeu Eliseu.
14 Hazael voltou até o lugar onde estava o rei Ben-Hadade, e este lhe perguntou:
— O que foi que Eliseu disse?
— Ele disse que o senhor vai ficar bom, com certeza! — respondeu Hazael.
15 Mas no dia seguinte Hazael pegou um cobertor, molhou-o bem e com ele sufocou o rei.
E Hazael ficou no lugar de Ben-Hadade como rei da Síria.
O reinado de Jeorão, de Judá(A)
16 No quinto ano do reinado de Jorão, filho de Acabe, como rei de Israel, Jeorão, filho de Josafá, se tornou rei de Judá. 17 Quando isso aconteceu, Jeorão tinha trinta e dois anos de idade. Ele governou oito anos em Jerusalém. 18 A mulher dele era filha do rei Acabe, de Israel, e Jeorão seguiu os maus caminhos de Acabe e dos outros reis de Israel, como a família de Acabe havia feito. Jeorão pecou contra Deus, o Senhor, 19 mas o Senhor não quis destruir Judá, pois havia feito uma aliança com o seu servo Davi, prometendo que os seus descendentes sempre seriam reis.
20 Durante o reinado de Jeorão, o país de Edom se revoltou contra Judá e se tornou independente. 21 Por isso, Jeorão saiu com todos os seus carros de guerra e foi até Zair; ali eles foram cercados pelos edomitas. Para escapar, Jeorão e os comandantes dos seus carros de guerra atacaram os edomitas durante a noite, e os soldados de Jeorão fugiram para as suas casas.
22 Desse tempo em diante, Edom ficou independente de Judá. Nessa mesma época a cidade de Libna também se revoltou.
23 Todas as outras coisas que Jeorão fez estão escritas na História dos Reis de Judá. 24 Jeorão morreu e foi sepultado nos túmulos dos reis, na Cidade de Davi, e o seu filho Acazias ficou no lugar dele como rei.
O reinado de Acazias, de Judá(B)
25 No ano doze do reinado de Jorão, filho de Acabe, como rei de Israel, Acazias, filho de Jeorão, se tornou rei de Judá. 26 Quando isso aconteceu, Acazias tinha vinte e dois anos de idade. Ele governou um ano em Jerusalém. A mãe dele se chamava Atalia e era filha do rei Onri, de Israel.
27 Por ser aparentado com o rei Acabe pelo casamento, Acazias seguiu o exemplo da família de Acabe e pecou contra Deus, o Senhor.
28 O rei Acazias se juntou com o rei Jorão, de Israel, a fim de guerrear contra o rei Hazael, da Síria. Os exércitos deles lutaram em Ramote-Gileade, e Jorão foi ferido na batalha. 29 Então ele voltou para a cidade de Jezreel a fim de tratar dos ferimentos, e Acazias foi até lá para visitá-lo.

8 E falou Eliseu àquela mulher cujo filho vivificara, dizendo: Levanta-te, e vai-te, tu e a tua família, e peregrina onde puderes peregrinar; porque o Senhor chamou a fome, a qual também virá à terra por sete anos. 2 E levantou-se a mulher e fez conforme a palavra do homem de Deus; porque foi ela com a sua família e peregrinou na terra dos filisteus sete anos. 3 E sucedeu que, ao cabo dos sete anos, a mulher voltou da terra dos filisteus e saiu a clamar ao rei pela sua casa e pelas suas terras.
4 Ora, o rei falava a Geazi, moço do homem de Deus, dizendo: Conta-me, peço-te, todas as grandes obras que Eliseu tem feito. 5 E sucedeu que, contando ele ao rei como vivificara a um morto, eis que a mulher cujo filho vivificara clamou ao rei pela sua casa e pelas suas terras; então, disse Geazi: Ó rei, meu senhor, esta é a mulher, e este o seu filho, a quem Eliseu vivificou. 6 E o rei perguntou à mulher, e ela lho contou; então, o rei lhe deu um eunuco, dizendo: Faze-lhe restituir tudo quanto era seu e todas as rendas das terras, desde o dia em que deixou a terra até agora.
Hazael mata a Ben-Hadade
7 Depois, veio Eliseu a Damasco, estando Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, doente; e lho anunciaram, dizendo: O homem de Deus é chegado aqui. 8 Então, o rei disse a Hazael: Toma um presente na tua mão, e vai a encontrar-te com o homem de Deus, e pergunta por ele ao Senhor, dizendo: Hei de eu sarar desta doença? 9 Foi, pois, Hazael encontrar-se com ele e tomou um presente na sua mão, a saber, de tudo que era bom de Damasco, quarenta camelos carregados; e veio, e se pôs diante dele, e disse: Teu filho Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, me enviou a ti, a dizer: Sararei eu desta doença? 10 E Eliseu lhe disse: Vai e dize-lhe: Certamente, não sararás. Porque o Senhor me tem mostrado que certamente morrerá. 11 E afirmou a sua vista e fitou os olhos nele, até se envergonhar; e chorou o homem de Deus. 12 Então, disse Hazael: Por que chora meu senhor? E ele disse: Porque sei o mal que hás de fazer aos filhos de Israel; porás fogo às suas fortalezas, e os seus jovens matarás à espada, e os seus meninos despedaçarás, e as suas pejadas fenderás. 13 E disse Hazael: Pois que é teu servo, que não é mais do que um cão, para fazer tão grande coisa? E disse Eliseu: O Senhor me tem mostrado que tu hás de ser rei da Síria. 14 Então, partiu de Eliseu e veio a seu senhor, o qual lhe disse: Que te disse Eliseu? E disse ele: Disse-me que certamente sararás. 15 E sucedeu, ao outro dia, que tomou um cobertor, e o molhou na água, e o estendeu sobre o seu rosto, e morreu. E Hazael reinou em seu lugar.
O reinado de Jeorão
16 E, no ano quinto de Jorão, filho de Acabe, rei de Israel, reinando ainda Josafá em Judá, começou a reinar Jeorão, filho de Josafá, rei de Judá. 17 Era ele da idade de trinta e dois anos quando começou a reinar e oito anos reinou em Jerusalém. 18 E andou no caminho dos reis de Israel, como também fizeram os da casa de Acabe, porque tinha por mulher a filha de Acabe, e fez o que era mal aos olhos do Senhor. 19 Porém o Senhor não quis destruir a Judá por amor de Davi, seu servo, como lhe tinha dito que lhe daria para sempre uma lâmpada a seus filhos.
20 Nos seus dias, se revoltaram os edomitas contra o mando de Judá e puseram sobre si um rei. 21 Pelo que Jeorão passou a Zair, e todos os carros com ele; e ele se levantou de noite e feriu os edomitas que estavam ao redor dele e os capitães dos carros; e o povo foi para as suas tendas. 22 Todavia, os edomitas ficaram revoltados contra o mando de Judá até ao dia de hoje; então, também se revoltou Libna no mesmo tempo.
23 O mais dos atos de Jeorão e tudo quanto fez, porventura, não estão escritos no livro das Crônicas dos Reis de Judá? 24 E Jeorão dormiu com seus pais e foi sepultado com seus pais na Cidade de Davi; e Acazias, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
O reinado de Acazias
25 No ano doze de Jorão filho de Acabe, rei de Israel, começou a reinar Acazias, filho de Jeorão, rei de Judá. 26 Era Acazias de vinte e dois anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou um ano em Jerusalém; e era o nome de sua mãe Atalia, filha de Onri, rei de Israel. 27 E andou no caminho da casa de Acabe e fez mal aos olhos do Senhor, como a casa de Acabe, porque era genro da casa de Acabe. 28 E foi com Jorão, filho de Acabe, a Ramote-Gileade, à peleja contra Hazael, rei da Síria; e os siros feriram Jorão. 29 Então, voltou o rei Jorão para se curar em Jezreel das feridas que os siros lhe fizeram em Ramá, quando pelejou contra Hazael, rei da Síria; e desceu Acazias, filho de Jeorão, rei de Judá, para ver a Jorão, filho de Acabe, em Jezreel, porquanto estava doente.

The Woman From Shunem Gets Her Land Back
8 Elisha had brought a woman’s son back to life. He had said to her, “Go away with your family. Stay for a while anywhere you can. The Lord has decided that there won’t be enough food in the land. That will be true for seven years.” 2 The woman did just as the man of God told her to. She and her family went away. They stayed in the land of the Philistines for seven years.
3 The seven years passed. Then she came back from the land of the Philistines. She went to the king of Israel. She wanted to ask him to get her house and land back. 4 The king was talking to Gehazi. Gehazi was the servant of the man of God. The king had said, “Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.” 5 Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had brought a dead boy back to life. Just then the woman came to ask the king to get her house and land back. She was the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life.
Gehazi said, “King Joram, this is the woman I’ve been telling you about. And this is her son. He’s the one Elisha brought back to life.” 6 The king asked the woman about her house and land. And she told him.
Then he appointed an official to look into her case. The king told him, “Give her back everything that belonged to her. That includes all the money that was earned from her land. It was earned from the day she left the country until now.”
Hazael Murders Ben-Hadad
7 Elisha went to Damascus. Ben-Hadad was sick. He was king of Aram. The king was told, “The man of God has come all the way up here.” 8 Then the king said to Hazael, “Take a gift with you. Go and see the man of God. Ask him for the Lord’s advice. Ask him whether I will get well again.”
9 Hazael went to see Elisha. Hazael took 40 camels with him as a gift. The camels were loaded with all the finest goods of Damascus. Hazael went into Elisha’s house and stood in front of him. Hazael said, “Ben-Hadad has sent me. He is the king of Aram. He asks, ‘Will I get well again?’ ”
10 Elisha answered, “Go and tell him, ‘Yes. You will get well again.’ But the Lord has shown me that he will in fact die.” 11 Elisha stared at him without looking away. He did it until Hazael felt uncomfortable. Then the man of God began to weep.
12 “Why are you weeping?” asked Hazael.
“Because I know how much harm you will do to the people of Israel,” Elisha answered. “You will set fire to their cities that have high walls around them. You will kill their young men with your swords. You will smash their little children on the ground. You will rip open their pregnant women.”
13 Hazael said, “How could I possibly do a thing like that? I’m nothing but a dog. I don’t have that kind of power.”
“You will become king of Aram,” Elisha answered. “That’s what the Lord has shown me.”
14 Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. Ben-Hadad asked, “What did Elisha say to you?” Hazael replied, “He told me you would get well again.” 15 But the next day Hazael got a thick cloth. He soaked it in water. He spread it over the king’s face. He held it there until the king died. Then Hazael became the next king after him.
Jehoram King of Judah
16 Jehoram began to rule as king over Judah. It was in the fifth year that Joram was king of Israel. Joram was the son of Ahab. Jehoram was the son of Jehoshaphat. 17 Jehoram was 32 years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for eight years. 18 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the royal family of Ahab had done. In fact, he married a daughter of Ahab. Jehoram did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. 19 But the Lord didn’t want to destroy Judah. That’s because the Lord had made a covenant with his servant David. The Lord had promised to keep the lamp of David’s kingdom burning brightly. The Lord had promised that for him and his children after him forever.
20 When Jehoram was king over Judah, Edom refused to remain under Judah’s control. Edom set up their own king. 21 So Jehoram went to Zair. He took all his chariots with him. The men of Edom surrounded him and his chariot commanders. He got up at night and fought his way out. But his army ran back home. 22 To this day Edom has refused to remain under Judah’s control. When Jehoram was Judah’s king, Libnah also refused to remain under the control of Judah.
23 The other events of Jehoram’s rule are written down. Everything he did is written in the official records of the kings of Judah. 24 Jehoram joined the members of his family who had already died. He was buried in the family tomb in the City of David. Jehoram’s son Ahaziah became the next king after him.
Ahaziah King of Judah
25 Ahaziah began to rule as king over Judah. It was in the 12th year that Joram was king of Israel. Joram was the son of Ahab. Ahaziah was the son of Jehoram. 26 Ahaziah was 22 years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah. She was a granddaughter of Omri. Omri had been the king of Israel. 27 Ahaziah followed the ways of the royal family of Ahab. Ahaziah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, just as the family of Ahab had done. That’s because he had married into Ahab’s family.
28 Ahaziah joined forces with Joram. They went to war against Hazael at Ramoth Gilead. Joram was the son of Ahab. Hazael was king of Aram. The soldiers of Aram wounded King Joram. 29 So he returned to Jezreel to give his wounds time to heal. The soldiers of Aram had wounded him at Ramoth in his battle against Hazael, the king of Aram.
Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram, went down to Jezreel. He went there to see Joram. That’s because Joram had been wounded. Ahaziah was king of Judah. Joram was the son of Ahab.

The Shunammite’s Land Restored
8 Now Elisha had said to the woman(A) whose son he had restored to life, “Go away with your family and stay for a while wherever you can, because the Lord has decreed a famine(B) in the land that will last seven years.”(C) 2 The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 At the end of the seven years she came back from the land of the Philistines and went to appeal to the king for her house and land. 4 The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and had said, “Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.” 5 Just as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had restored(D) the dead to life, the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life came to appeal to the king for her house and land.
Gehazi said, “This is the woman, my lord the king, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” 6 The king asked the woman about it, and she told him.
Then he assigned an official to her case and said to him, “Give back everything that belonged to her, including all the income from her land from the day she left the country until now.”
Hazael Murders Ben-Hadad
7 Elisha went to Damascus,(E) and Ben-Hadad(F) king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, “The man of God has come all the way up here,” 8 he said to Hazael,(G) “Take a gift(H) with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult(I) the Lord through him; ask him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
9 Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
10 Elisha answered, “Go and say to him, ‘You will certainly recover.’(J) Nevertheless,[a] the Lord has revealed to me that he will in fact die.” 11 He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael was embarrassed.(K) Then the man of God began to weep.(L)
12 “Why is my lord weeping?” asked Hazael.
“Because I know the harm(M) you will do to the Israelites,” he answered. “You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash(N) their little children(O) to the ground, and rip open(P) their pregnant women.”
13 Hazael said, “How could your servant, a mere dog,(Q) accomplish such a feat?”
“The Lord has shown me that you will become king(R) of Aram,” answered Elisha.
14 Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. When Ben-Hadad asked, “What did Elisha say to you?” Hazael replied, “He told me that you would certainly recover.” 15 But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king’s face, so that he died.(S) Then Hazael succeeded him as king.
Jehoram King of Judah(T)
16 In the fifth year of Joram(U) son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram(V) son of Jehoshaphat began his reign as king of Judah. 17 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 18 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter(W) of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 19 Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy(X) Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp(Y) for David and his descendants forever.
20 In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king.(Z) 21 So Jehoram[b] went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night; his army, however, fled back home. 22 To this day Edom has been in rebellion(AA) against Judah. Libnah(AB) revolted at the same time.
23 As for the other events of Jehoram’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 24 Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.
Ahaziah King of Judah(AC)
25 In the twelfth(AD) year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. 26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah,(AE) a granddaughter of Omri(AF) king of Israel. 27 He followed the ways of the house of Ahab(AG) and did evil(AH) in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was related by marriage to Ahab’s family.
28 Ahaziah went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead.(AI) The Arameans wounded Joram; 29 so King Joram returned to Jezreel(AJ) to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramoth[c] in his battle with Hazael(AK) king of Aram.
Then Ahaziah(AL) son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he had been wounded.
