43 Menelaus Maintains His Power. Charges were brought against Menelaus as a result of this incident. 44 When the king came to Tyre, three men sent by the senate pleaded their case before him. 45 Menelaus, realizing that the verdict would go against him, promised Ptolemy, the son of Dorymenes,[a] a substantial sum of money if he would win over the king.
