Chapter 9
Anointing of Jehu. 1 Elisha the prophet summoned one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “Gird up your loins and carry this flask of oil to Ramoth-gilead.[a] 2 When you arrive there, search for Jehu, the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, and separate him from his companions, bringing him to an inner chamber. 3 Take the flask of oil and pour it on his head, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: I have anointed you as king over Israel.’ Then open the door and flee, do not wait around.”
4 So the young man, the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead. 5 When he arrived, the commanders of the army were sitting around. He said, “I have a message for you, commander.” Jehu said, “For which of us?” He answered, “For you, commander.”
6 Jehu got up and went into the house. He poured the oil on his head and said, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘I have anointed you as king over the people of the Lord, over Israel. 7 You are to wipe out the house of Ahab, your master, and take vengeance for the blood of my servants, the prophets, and the blood of all of the servants of the Lord that Jezebel has shed. 8 The entire house of Ahab must perish. Everyone who pees against the wall in Israel who belongs to Ahab must be cut off, whether he be slave or free. 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha, the son of Ahijah. 10 And as for Jezebel, the dogs will devour her on the Jezreel plot of ground. No one will bury her.’ ” Then he opened the door and fled.
11 When Jehu came outside to the servants of his lord, one of them said to him, “Is everything all right? Why did this madman[b] come to visit you?” He answered, “You know the man and the things he says.” 12 They said, “That is not true. Tell us now what he said.” Jehu said, “He said this to me, ‘Thus says the Lord: I have anointed you as king over Israel.’ ”
13 Each of them quickly took his cloak and put it under him upon the stairs. They blew the trumpets and proclaimed, “Jehu is king!”[c]
14 The Murder of Joram. So Jehu, the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, plotted against Joram.
Joram and all of Israel had been defending Ramoth-gilead against Hazael, the king of Aram, 15 but Joram had returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds he had received from the Arameans when he fought against Hazael, the king of Aram. Jehu said, “If this is what you want, then prevent anyone from leaving the city and going to Jezreel to report it.”
16 Jehu then got in his chariot and rode to Jezreel, for that was where Joram was staying. Ahaziah, the king of Judah, had also gone down to visit Joram.
17 When the watchman upon the tower in Jezreel observed Jehu’s forces arriving, he said, “I see a company.” Joram said, “Get a horseman and send him out to meet them. Let him say, ‘Do you come in peace?’ ” 18 The horseman went to meet them and said, “Thus says the king: ‘Do you come in peace?’ ” Jehu answered, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.” The watchman said, “The messenger has reached them, but he is not coming back.”
19 He sent out a second horseman who came to them and said, “Thus says the king: ‘Do you come in peace?’ ” Jehu answered, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.”
20 The watchman reported, “He has reached them, but he is not coming back. The one who is driving is driving like Jehu, the son of Nimshi, for he is driving furiously.” 21 Joram said, “Prepare my chariot.”
When his chariot had been made ready, Joram, the king of Israel, and Ahaziah, the king of Judah, each drove out with his chariot against Jehu. They encountered him at the plot of Naboth, the Jezreelite. 22 When Joram saw that it was Jehu, he said, “Do you come in peace?” Jehu answered, “How can there be peace as long as the idolatries and witchcrafts of Jezebel, your mother, continue to multiply?”
23 Joram turned and fled, and he cried out to Ahaziah, “It is treachery, O Ahaziah!” 24 Jehu drew back his bow and struck Joram between his shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.
25 [d]Jehu said to Bidkar, his captain, “Pick him up and throw him down in the plot that belonged to Naboth, the Jezreelite. Remem-ber how you and I were riding together behind Ahab, his father, when the Lord proclaimed this prophecy against him. 26 ‘As surely as yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth and his sons,’ says the Lord, ‘I will repay you upon this plot,’ says the Lord. Therefore, take him and throw him down upon this plot, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”
27 Death of Ahaziah. When Ahaziah, the king of Judah, saw this, he fled on the road to Beth-haggan. Jehu followed after him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him on the way up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. He escaped to Megiddo, but he died there. 28 His servants took him by chariot to Jerusalem, and they buried him in the tomb of his fathers in the City of David. 29 Ahaziah had begun to reign over Judah in the eleventh year of the reign of Joram, the son of Ahab.
30 Death of Jezebel. Jehu then went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard, she painted her face and fixed her hair, and she leaned out the window. 31 When Jehu entered the gate, she said, “Do you come in peace, Zimri, you murderer of your master?”
32 He looked up at the window and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked down to him. 33 He said, “Throw her down!” They threw her down so that her blood sprinkled on the wall and on the horses as they trampled her down.
34 He went in and ate and drank and said, “Go now, and bury that accursed woman, for she is the daughter of a king.” 35 When they went out to bury her, all they found was her skull, her feet, and the palms of her hands. 36 They went back and told him. He said, “This is the word of the Lord which he spoke through his servant, Elijah, the Tishbite, when he said, ‘The dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel on the plot in Jezreel. 37 Jezebel’s body will be like dung spread over the surface of the field on the plot in Jezreel so that no one will be able to say: This is Jezebel.’ ”

- 2 Kings 9:1 Elisha carries out the third commission given to Elijah (1 Ki 19:16). He does it through the agency of one of the sons—that is, disciples—of the prophets; as Elisha’s envoy, he shares his authority.

9 Entonces el profeta Eliseo llamó a uno de los hijos de los profetas, y le dijo: Ciñe tus lomos, y toma esta botija de aceite en tu mano, y ve a Ramot de Galaad.
2 Y cuando llegues allá, verás allí a Jehú hijo de Josafat hijo de Nimsi; y entrando, haz que se levante de entre sus hermanos, y llévalo a la cámara.
3 Toma luego la botija de aceite, y derrámala sobre su cabeza, y di: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Yo te he ungido por rey sobre Israel. Y abriendo la puerta, echa a huir, y no esperes.
4 Fue, pues, el joven, el siervo del profeta, a Ramot de Galaad.
5 Y cuando él entró, he aquí los príncipes del ejército que estaban sentados. Y él dijo: Príncipe, una palabra tengo que decirte. Y Jehú dijo: ¿A cuál de todos nosotros? Y él dijo: A ti, príncipe.
6 Y él se levantó, y entró en casa; y el otro derramó el aceite sobre su cabeza, y le dijo: Así dijo el SEÑOR Dios de Israel: Yo te he ungido por rey sobre el pueblo del SEÑOR, sobre Israel.
7 Y herirás la casa de Acab tu señor, para que yo vengue la sangre de mis esclavos los profetas, y la sangre de todos los esclavos del SEÑOR, de la mano de Jezabel.
8 Y perecerá toda la casa de Acab, y talaré de Acab todo meante a la pared, así al guardado como al quedado en Israel.
9 Y yo pondré la casa de Acab como la casa de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, y como la casa de Baasa hijo de Ahías.
10 Y a Jezabel la comerán los perros en el campo de Jezreel, y no habrá quien la sepulte. Y abrió la puerta, y echó a huir.
11 Después salió Jehú a los esclavos de su señor, y le dijeron: ¿Hay paz? ¿Para qué entró a ti aquel demente? Y él les dijo: Vosotros conocéis al hombre y sus palabras.
12 Y ellos dijeron: Mentira; decláranoslo ahora. Y él dijo: Así y así me habló, diciendo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Yo te he ungido por rey sobre Israel.
13 Y tomaron prestamente cada uno su ropa, y la puso debajo de él en un trono alto, y tocaron el shofar, y dijeron: Jehú es rey.
14 Así conjuró Jehú hijo de Josafat hijo de Nimsi, contra Joram. (Estaba Joram guardando a Ramot de Galaad con todo Israel, por causa de Hazael rey de Siria.
15 Pero se había vuelto el rey Joram a Jezreel, para curarse de las heridas que los sirios le habían hecho, peleando contra Hazael rey de Siria). Y Jehú dijo: Si es vuestra voluntad, ninguno escape de la ciudad, para ir a dar las nuevas en Jezreel.
16 Entonces Jehú cabalgó, y se fue a Jezreel, porque Joram estaba allí enfermo. También Ocozías rey de Judá había descendido allá a visitar a Joram.
17 Y el atalaya que estaba en la torre de Jezreel, vio la cuadrilla de Jehú, que venía, y dijo: Yo veo una cuadrilla. Y Joram dijo: Toma uno de a caballo, y envía a reconocerlos, y que les diga: ¿Hay paz?
18 Fue, pues, el de a caballo a reconocerlos, y dijo: El rey dice así: ¿Hay paz? Y Jehú le dijo: ¿Qué tienes tú que ver con la paz? Vuélvete tras mí. El atalaya dio luego aviso, diciendo: El mensajero llegó hasta ellos, y no vuelve.
19 Entonces envió otro de a caballo, el cual llegando a ellos, dijo: El rey dice así: ¿Hay paz? Y Jehú respondió: ¿Qué tienes tú que ver con la paz? Vuélvete tras mí.
20 El atalaya volvió a decir: También éste llegó a ellos y no vuelve; mas el marchar del que viene es como el marchar de Jehú hijo de Nimsi, porque viene impetuosamente.
21 Entonces Joram dijo: Unce. Y unció su carro, salieron Joram rey de Israel, y Ocozías rey de Judá, cada uno en su carro, y salieron a encontrar a Jehú, al cual hallaron en la heredad de Nabot de Jezreel.
22 Y viendo Joram a Jehú, dijo: ¿Hay paz, Jehú? Y él respondió: ¿Qué paz, con las fornicaciones de Jezabel tu madre, y sus muchas hechicerías?
23 Entonces Joram volviendo la rienda huyó, y dijo a Ocozías: ¡Traición, Ocozías!
24 Mas Jehú entesó su arco cuanto pudo, e hirió a Joram entre sus brazos, y la saeta salió por su corazón, y cayó en su carro.
25 Dijo luego Jehú a Bidcar su capitán: Tómalo y échalo a un extremo de la heredad de Nabot de Jezreel. Acuérdate que cuando tú y yo íbamos juntos tras Acab su padre, el SEÑOR pronunció esta sentencia sobre él, diciendo:
26 Que yo vi ayer la sangre de Nabot, y la sangre de sus hijos, dijo el SEÑOR; y que te las tengo que devolver en esta heredad, dijo el SEÑOR. Tómale pues, ahora, y échalo en la heredad, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR.
27 Y viendo esto Ocozías rey de Judá, huyó por el camino de la casa del huerto. Y lo siguió Jehú, diciendo: Herid también a éste en el carro, a la subida de Gur, junto a Ibleam. Y él huyó a Meguido, y murió allí.
28 Y sus esclavos le llevaron en un carro a Jerusalén, y allá le sepultaron con sus padres, en su sepulcro en la ciudad de David.
29 En el undécimo año de Joram hijo de Acab, comenzó a reinar Ocozías sobre Judá.
30 Y vino Jehú a Jezreel; y cuando Jezabel lo oyó, adornó sus ojos con antimonio, y atavió su cabeza, y se asomó por una ventana.
31 Y cuando entraba Jehú por la puerta, ella dijo: ¿Tuvo paz Zimri, quien mató a su señor?
32 Alzando él entonces su rostro hacia la ventana, dijo: ¿Quién es conmigo? ¿Quién? Y miraron hacia él dos o tres eunucos.
33 Y él les dijo: Echadla abajo. Y ellos la echaron; y parte de su sangre fue salpicada en la pared, y en los caballos; y él la atropelló.
34 Entró luego, y después que comió y bebió, dijo: Id ahora a ver aquella maldita, y sepultadla; que al fin es hija de rey.
35 Pero cuando fueron para sepultarla, no hallaron de ella más que la calavera, y los pies, y las palmas de las manos.
36 Y volvieron, y se lo dijeron. Y él dijo: La palabra de Dios es ésta, la cual él habló por mano de su esclavo Elías tisbita, diciendo: En la heredad de Jezreel comerán los perros las carnes de Jezabel.
37 Y el cuerpo de Jezabel fue cual estiércol sobre la faz de la tierra en la heredad de Jezreel; de manera que nadie pueda decir: Esta es Jezabel.

4 Awo omuvubuka nnabbi n’agenda e Lamosugireyaadi. 5 Bwe yatuuka, n’asanga ng’abaserikale abakulu ab’omu ggye bakuŋŋaanye n’ayogera nti, “Nnina obubaka bwo, ssebo omuduumizi.” Yeeku n’amubuuza nti, “Bw’ani ku ffe ffenna?” N’amuddamu nti, “Bubwo, ggwe omuduumizi.”
6 (C)Yeeku n’asituka n’ayingira mu nnyumba, nnabbi n’amufukako amafuta, n’ayogera nti, “Bw’ati bw’ayogera Mukama Katonda wa Isirayiri nti, ‘Nkufukako amafuta okuba kabaka w’abantu ba Mukama, Abayisirayiri. 7 (D)Olizikiriza ennyumba ya Akabu mukama wo, nga mpalana eggwanga olw’omusaayi gw’abaddu ba Mukama bonna, Yezeberi gwe yayiwa. 8 (E)Ennyumba yonna eya Akabu erisaanyizibwawo, era ndizikiririza ddala buli mwana wabulenzi, oba muddu oba wa ddembe mu Isirayiri. 9 (F)Ndifuula ennyumba ya Akabu okuba ng’ennyumba ya Yerobowaamu mutabani wa Nebati, era n’okufaanana ng’ennyumba ya Baasa mutabani wa Akiya. 10 (G)N’embwa ziririira Yezeberi mu kibanja eky’e Yezuleeri era tewaliba muntu n’omu amuziika.’ ” Oluvannyuma olw’okwogera ebyo n’aggulawo oluggi n’adduka. 11 (H)Yeeku bwe yafuluma okugenda eri bakungu banne, omu ku bo n’amubuuza nti, “Kiri bulungi? Yeeku n’addamu nti, “Omusajja mumumanyi n’enjogera ye mugimanyi.”
12 Ne bamugamba nti, “Ekyo si kituufu! Tutegeeze amazima.” Yeeku n’ayogera nti, “Bw’ati bw’aŋŋambye nti, ‘Bw’ati bw’ayogera Mukama nti nkufukako amafuta okuba kabaka wa Isirayiri.’ ”
13 (I)Ne banguwa okuggyako eminagiro gyabwe, ne bagyaliira wansi ku madaala, ne bafuuwa ekkondeere, nga bwe baleekaana nti, “Yeeku ye kabaka.”
Yeeku atta Yolaamu ne Akaziya
14 (J)Awo Yeeku mutabani wa Yekosafaati, muzzukulu wa Nimusi n’asalira Yolaamu olukwe. Yolaamu wamu ne Isirayiri yenna baali bakuuma e Lamosugireyaadi, Kazayeeri kabaka w’e Busuuli aleme okubalumba. 15 (K)Naye Yolaamu yali azeeyo e Yezuleeri okujjanjabibwa ebiwundu Abasuuli bye baali bamutaddeko, mu kulwanagana ne Kazayeeri kabaka w’e Busuuli. Yeeku n’ayogera nti, “Bwe muba nga bwe mutyo bwe muwulira, kale waleme okubaawo omuntu yenna atoloka okuva mu kibuga anaabunyisa amawulire mu Yezuleeri.” 16 (L)N’alinnya mu ggaali lye, n’agenda e Yezuleeri, kubanga Yolaamu yali awummulidde eyo, nga ne Akaziya aserengese okugenda okumulabako.
17 (M)Awo omukuumi eyali mu kigo mu Yezuleeri, bwe yalengera ekibinja kya Yeeku nga kijja, n’akoowoola mu ddoboozi ery’omwanguka ng’agamba nti, “Waliwo ekibinja kye nnengera ekijja.”
Yolaamu n’alagira nti, “Mufune omu ku beebagala embalaasi, mumutume agende abasisinkane, ababuuze nti, ‘Mujja mirembe?’ ”
18 Awo eyeebagala embalaasi n’agenda okusisinkana Yeeku, n’amugamba nti, “Kabaka abuuza nti, ‘Mujja mirembe?’ ”
Yeeku n’amuddamu nti, “Emirembe ogifaako ki? Kyuka odde ennyuma wange ongoberere.” Omukuumi eyali mu kigo n’ayogera nti, “Atuuse gye bali, naye tadda.”
19 Awo kabaka n’atuma eyeebagala embalaasi owookubiri. Bwe yatuuka we baali, n’ayogera nti, “Bw’ati bw’ayogera kabaka nti, ‘Mujja mirembe?’ ” Yeeku n’amuddamu nti, “Emirembe ogifaako ki? Kyuka odde ennyuma wange ongoberere.”
20 (N)Omukuumi n’addamu n’ayogera nti, “Oli naye atuuse, gye bali, naye tadda. N’enneebagala y’embalaasi efaanana ng’enneebala ya Yeeku muzzukulu wa Nimusi, kubanga enneebagala ye yakiralu.”
21 (O)Yolaamu n’ayogera nti, “Muteeketeeke eggaali lyange.” Bwe baamala okuliteekateeka, Yolaamu kabaka wa Isirayiri ne Akaziya kabaka wa Yuda, ne bafuluma ekibuga, buli omu ng’ali mu ggaali lye, ne bagenda okusisinkana Yeeku, era baamusisinkanira mu nnimiro eyali eya Nabosi Omuyezuleeri. 22 (P)Awo Yolaamu bwe yalaba Yeeku, n’amubuuza nti, “Ojja mirembe Yeeku?” Yeeku n’amuddamu nti, “Kiyinzika kitya okubaawo emirembe, nga wakyaliwo obwenzi n’obulogo bwa nnyoko Yezeberi?” 23 (Q)Amangwago Yolaamu n’akyusa n’adduka, ng’akoowoola Akaziya ng’agamba nti, “Akaziya waliwo olukwe!”
24 (R)Awo Yeeku n’aggyayo omutego gwe n’obusaale bwe, n’amaanyi ge gonna n’anaanuula omutego n’alasa Yolaamu mu kibegabega, akasaale ne kafumita omutima gwe, n’agwa mu ggaali lye. 25 (S)Yeeku n’agamba Bidukali, omugoba we ggaali lye nti, “Mumuggyeemu, mumusuule mu nnimiro eyali eya Nabosi Omuyezuleeri. Ojjukira bwe twali tuvugira amagaali gaffe emabega wa Akabu kitaawe, Mukama n’ayogera nti ekintu kino kirimutuukako. 26 (T)‘Mazima ddala, nga jjo bwe nnalabye omusaayi gwa Nabosi n’omusaayi gw’abaana be, siireme kukusasulira mu kibanja kino kyennyini,’ bw’ayogera Mukama. Kaakano mumusitule mumusuule mu kibanja ekyo ng’ekigambo kya Mukama bwe kiri.”
27 (U)Awo Akaziya kabaka wa Yuda bwe yalaba ebyabaawo, n’addukira mu kkubo ery’omu nnyumba ey’ennimiro. Yeeku n’amugoba, nga bw’ayogerera waggulu nti, “Naye mumutte!” Ne bamulasa, ne bamuleetako ekiwundu ng’addukira e Guli ekiriraanye Ibuleamu, ng’ali mu ggaali lye, naye n’asobola okutuuka e Megiddo, era eyo gye yafiira. 28 (V)Abaddu be ne bateeka omulambo gwe mu ggaali ne bagutwala e Yerusaalemi, ne bamuziika mu ntaana ye ku biggya bya bajjajjaabe mu kibuga kya Dawudi. 29 (W)Awo mu mwaka ogw’ekkumi n’ogumu ogw’obufuzi bwa Yolaamu mutabani wa Akabu, Akaziya n’atandika okufuga Yuda.
Okufa kwa Yezeberi
30 (X)Yeeku n’agenda Yezeberi gye yali, Yezeberi n’akimanya, n’asiiga amaaso ge, n’alongoosa enviiri ze, n’atunula ebweru ng’asinziira mu ddirisa. 31 (Y)Awo Yeeku bwe yali ng’ayingirira mu wankaaki, Yezeberi n’amubuuza nti, “Ojja mirembe, ggwe Zimuli, eyatemula mukama wo?”
32 Yeeku n’ayimusa amaaso ge waggulu, n’akoowoola ng’abuuza nti, “Ani ali ku ludda lwange? Ani?” Abalaawe babiri oba basatu ne balingiza mu ddirisa. 33 (Z)N’ayogera nti, “Mumusuule wansi!” Ne bamusuula wansi, n’omusaayi gwe ogumu ne gumansukira ekisenge ne ku mbalaasi, n’okumulinyirira ne zimulinnyirira.
34 (AA)Awo Yeeku n’ayingira, n’alya era n’anywa. N’ayogera nti, “Mulabirire omulambo gw’omukazi oyo eyakolimirwa, era mulabe nga guziikibwa kubanga yali mumbejja.” 35 Naye bwe bagutuukako, tebaalina kye basangawo okuggyako akawanga ke, n’ebigere bye, n’ebibatu by’emikono gye. 36 (AB)Ne baddayo eri Yeeku ne bamutegeeza. N’abagamba nti, “Kino kye kigambo kya Mukama, kye yayogerera mu muddu we Eriya Omutisubi ng’agamba nti, ‘Mu kibangirizi ky’e Yezuleeri, embwa mwe ziririira omulambo gwa Yezeberi. 37 (AC)Era omulambo gwa Yezeberi guliba ng’obusa ku ttale mu kibangirizi ky’e Yezuleeri, omuntu yenna aleme okugamba nti, Ono ye Yezeberi.’ ”
