The Shunammite’s Land Restored
8 Now Elisha had said to the woman(A) whose son he had restored to life, “Go away with your family and stay for a while wherever you can, because the Lord has decreed a famine(B) in the land that will last seven years.”(C) 2 The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 At the end of the seven years she came back from the land of the Philistines and went to appeal to the king for her house and land. 4 The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and had said, “Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.” 5 Just as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had restored(D) the dead to life, the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life came to appeal to the king for her house and land.
Gehazi said, “This is the woman, my lord the king, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” 6 The king asked the woman about it, and she told him.
Then he assigned an official to her case and said to him, “Give back everything that belonged to her, including all the income from her land from the day she left the country until now.”
Hazael Murders Ben-Hadad
7 Elisha went to Damascus,(E) and Ben-Hadad(F) king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, “The man of God has come all the way up here,” 8 he said to Hazael,(G) “Take a gift(H) with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult(I) the Lord through him; ask him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
9 Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
10 Elisha answered, “Go and say to him, ‘You will certainly recover.’(J) Nevertheless,[a] the Lord has revealed to me that he will in fact die.” 11 He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael was embarrassed.(K) Then the man of God began to weep.(L)
12 “Why is my lord weeping?” asked Hazael.
“Because I know the harm(M) you will do to the Israelites,” he answered. “You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash(N) their little children(O) to the ground, and rip open(P) their pregnant women.”
13 Hazael said, “How could your servant, a mere dog,(Q) accomplish such a feat?”
“The Lord has shown me that you will become king(R) of Aram,” answered Elisha.
14 Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. When Ben-Hadad asked, “What did Elisha say to you?” Hazael replied, “He told me that you would certainly recover.” 15 But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king’s face, so that he died.(S) Then Hazael succeeded him as king.
Jehoram King of Judah(T)
16 In the fifth year of Joram(U) son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram(V) son of Jehoshaphat began his reign as king of Judah. 17 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 18 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter(W) of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 19 Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy(X) Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp(Y) for David and his descendants forever.
20 In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king.(Z) 21 So Jehoram[b] went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night; his army, however, fled back home. 22 To this day Edom has been in rebellion(AA) against Judah. Libnah(AB) revolted at the same time.
23 As for the other events of Jehoram’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 24 Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.
Ahaziah King of Judah(AC)
25 In the twelfth(AD) year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. 26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah,(AE) a granddaughter of Omri(AF) king of Israel. 27 He followed the ways of the house of Ahab(AG) and did evil(AH) in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was related by marriage to Ahab’s family.
28 Ahaziah went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead.(AI) The Arameans wounded Joram; 29 so King Joram returned to Jezreel(AJ) to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramoth[c] in his battle with Hazael(AK) king of Aram.
Then Ahaziah(AL) son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he had been wounded.

2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
7 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.
8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and enquire of the Lord by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the Lord hath shewed me that he shall surely die.
11 And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.
12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The Lord hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.
15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Je hoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.
19 Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.
26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.
28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

8 Ahora bien, Eliseo le había dicho a la mujer a cuyo hijo él había revivido: «Anda, vete con tu familia a vivir donde puedas, porque el Señor ha ordenado que haya una gran hambre en el país, y que esta dure siete años». 2 La mujer se dispuso a seguir las instrucciones del hombre de Dios y se fue con su familia al país de los filisteos, donde se quedó siete años.
3 Al cabo de los siete años, cuando regresó del país de los filisteos, la mujer fue a rogarle al rey que le devolviera su casa y sus tierras. 4 En esos momentos el rey estaba hablando con Guiezi, el criado del hombre de Dios, y le había dicho: «Cuéntame todas las maravillas que ha hecho Eliseo». 5 Y precisamente cuando Guiezi le contaba al rey que Eliseo había revivido al niño muerto, la madre llegó para rogarle al rey que le devolviera su casa y sus tierras. Así que Guiezi dijo:
―Mi señor y rey, esta es la mujer, y este es el hijo que Eliseo revivió.

11 Luego Eliseo se quedó mirándolo fijamente, hasta que Jazael se sintió incómodo.[d] Entonces el hombre de Dios se echó a llorar.
12 ―¿Por qué llora mi señor? —le preguntó Jazael.
―Porque yo sé bien que vas a causarles mucho daño a los israelitas —respondió—. Vas a incendiar sus fortalezas, y a matar a sus jóvenes a filo de espada; despedazarás a los niños y les abrirás el vientre a las mujeres embarazadas.
13 Jazael exclamó:
―¡Qué es tu siervo sino un pobre perro! ¿Cómo es posible que haga tal cosa?
Entonces Eliseo le declaró:
―El Señor me ha revelado que vas a ser rey de Siria.
14 Jazael se despidió de Eliseo y regresó para presentarse ante su rey. Cuando Ben Adad le preguntó qué le había dicho Eliseo, Jazael le respondió:
―Me dijo que sobrevivirás a tu enfermedad.
15 Pero al día siguiente tomó una colcha y, empapándola en agua, le tapó la cara al rey hasta asfixiarlo. Así fue como Jazael usurpó el trono.
Jorán, rey de Judá(A)
16 En el quinto año del reinado de Jorán hijo de Acab, rey de Israel y contemporáneo de Josafat, rey de Judá, Jorán hijo de Josafat ascendió al trono de Judá. 17 Tenía treinta y dos años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén ocho años. 18 Jorán hizo lo que ofende al Señor, pues siguió el mal ejemplo de los reyes de Israel, como había hecho la familia de Acab, y llegó incluso a casarse con la hija de Acab. 19 Pero el Señor no quiso destruir a Judá, por consideración a su siervo David, pues le había prometido mantener encendida para siempre una lámpara para él y sus descendientes.
20 En tiempos de Jorán, los edomitas se sublevaron contra Judá y proclamaron su propio rey. 21 Por lo tanto, Jorán marchó sobre Zaír con todos sus carros de combate. 8 Khi ấy Ê-li-sê nói với người đàn bà có con trai được sống lại: “Bà và gia đình bà hãy chỗi dậy và đi đến một xứ nào có thể sống được, vì CHÚA đã định cho xứ phải chịu một cơn đói kém dài bảy năm.” 2 Vậy bà ấy chỗi dậy làm theo như lời của người Đức Chúa Trời đã bảo. Bà và gia đình bà đến kiều ngụ trong xứ Phi-li-tin bảy năm.

Đoạn vua chỉ thị cho một vị quan lo giải quyết lời yêu cầu của bà và dặn rằng: “Hãy trả lại cho bà tất cả những gì thuộc về bà, cùng với mọi lợi tức của ruộng vườn bà, từ ngày bà lìa xứ cho đến ngày nay.”

7 Ê-li-sê đến Đa-mách nhằm lúc vua Bên Ha-đát của A-ram đang lâm bệnh. Khi vua nghe báo rằng: “Có người của Đức Chúa Trời đã đến đây.” 8 Vua bèn sai Ha-xa-ên: “Ngươi hãy lấy một lễ vật đến gặp người của Đức Chúa Trời, nhờ người cầu vấn với CHÚA xem ta có thể bình phục sau cơn bệnh này chăng?”
9 Vậy Ha-xa-ên đi gặp người của Đức Chúa Trời, mang theo một lễ vật, gồm những sản phẩm tốt nhất của Đa-mách, do bốn mươi con lạc đà chuyên chở. Ông đến đứng trước mặt Ê-li-sê và nói: “Con trai ngài là Bên Ha-đát, vua của A-ram, có sai tôi đến cầu vấn ngài rằng: ‘Tôi có thể bình phục sau cơn bệnh này chăng?’ ”
10 Ê-li-sê đáp: “Hãy về và nói với vua: ‘Vua chắc chắn sẽ bình phục;’ nhưng CHÚA đã cho ta biết rằng vua chắc chắn sẽ chết.” 11 Đoạn người của Đức Chúa Trời nghiêm sắc mặt nhìn chăm chăm vào Ha-xa-ên đến nỗi ông ta phát ngượng, rồi người của Đức Chúa Trời lại cất tiếng lên khóc.

Vua Bên Ha-đát hỏi ông: “Ê-li-sê đã nói với ngươi thế nào?” Ông đáp: “Người ấy nói với tôi rằng vua chắc chắn sẽ khỏi bệnh.” 15 Nhưng ngày hôm sau, Ha-xa-ên lấy một cái mền, thấm đầy nước, đem phủ trên mặt của nhà vua cho đến khi vua ngộp thở chết, rồi ông thế vị lên ngôi làm vua.
Giê-hô-ram Trị Vì Giu-đa
16 Vào năm thứ năm triều vua Giô-ram, con trai A-háp, trị vì ở Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì Giê-hô-ram, con trai vua Giê-hô-sa-phát, bắt đầu trị vì ở Giu-đa. 17 Giê-hô-ram được ba mươi hai tuổi khi bắt đầu làm vua. Vua trị vì tám năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. 18 Vua đi theo đường lối của các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, như nhà A-háp đã làm, vì vua có cưới con gái của A-háp làm vợ. Vua đã làm những việc tội lỗi trước mặt CHÚA. 19 Dầu vậy CHÚA cũng không hủy diệt Giu-đa, vì cớ Đa-vít, tôi tớ Ngài, vì Ngài đã hứa với Đa-vít rằng Ngài sẽ để một ngọn đèn cho người và cho dòng dõi người mãi mãi.
20 Trong thời của Giê-hô-ram, dân Ê-đôm dấy lên chống lại sự cai trị của Giu-đa và lập lấy một vua cho mình. 21 Vì vậy Giê-hô-ram kéo toàn bộ xe chiến mã của mình vượt qua Xai-rơ. Dân Ê-đôm kéo đến bao vây đội quân của vua. Ban đêm vua và những sĩ quan chỉ huy các xe chiến mã của vua tấn công dân Ê-đôm, nhưng khi đội quân của vua vừa thoát khỏi vòng vây, họ đã bỏ chạy về nhà. 22 Thế là dân Ê-đôm đã nổi dậy chống lại sự đô hộ của dân Giu-đa cho đến ngày nay. Đồng lúc ấy, dân ở Líp-na cũng nổi lên chống lại sự cai trị của Giu-đa.
23 Tất cả những việc khác của Giê-hô-ram và mọi việc vua làm há chẳng được chép trong sách sử ký của các vua Giu-đa sao? 24 Giê-hô-ram an giấc với các tổ phụ mình và được chôn với họ trong thành Đa-vít. A-cha-xia, con trai vua, lên ngôi kế vị.
A-cha-xia Trị Vì Giu-đa
25 Năm thứ mười hai triều vua Giô-ram, con trai A-háp, trị vì ở Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì A-cha-xia, con trai vua Giê-hô-ram, bắt đầu trị vì ở Giu-đa. 26 A-cha-xia được hai mươi hai tuổi khi bắt đầu làm vua. Vua trị vì được một năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Mẹ của vua là A-tha-li, cháu nội của vua Ôm-ri, nước Y-sơ-ra-ên. 27 Vua cũng bước đi trong đường lối của A-háp, làm những việc tội lỗi trước mặt CHÚA, giống như nhà A-háp đã làm, vì vua là con rể của nhà A-háp.
28 Vua đi với vua Giô-ram, con trai A-háp, tiến đánh vua Ha-xa-ên của A-ram tại Ra-mốt Ga-la-át. Trận đó vua Giô-ram bị thương. 29 Vua Giô-ram bèn rút về dưỡng thương tại Ghít-rê-ên. Đó là những vết thương do quân A-ram đả thương vua tại Ra-mốt khi vua tiến đánh vua Ha-xa-ên của A-ram.
A-cha-xia, con của Giê-hô-ram, vua Giu-đa, xuống thăm Giô-ram, con trai A-háp, đang nằm dưỡng thương tại Ghít-rê-ên.
