Chapter 4
The Widow’s Oil.[a] 1 Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you know that your servant lived in fear of the Lord. His creditor is coming to take away his two sons to be his slaves.” 2 Elisha said, “What can I do for you? Tell me, what do you have at home?” She answered, “Your servant has nothing at home except for a flask of oil.” 3 He said, “Go around and borrow jars from all of your neighbors. Empty jars, and not too few of them. 4 Then go inside, and shut the door behind you and your sons. Fill all of those jars, and when a jar is full, set it to the side.”
5 So she left him, and she shut the door behind her and her sons who had brought her jars, and she kept pouring. 6 When all of the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another jar.” He said, “There are no more jars,” and then the oil stopped flowing.
7 She went and recounted it to the man of God, and he said, “Go and sell the oil and pay your debt. You and your children can live on what is left over.”
Elisha and the Shunammite.[b] 8 One day Elisha traveled to Shunem.[c] There was an important woman there, and she insisted that he stop to eat. Whenever he passed by there, he would stop to eat.
9 She said to her husband, “Behold, this man who often visits us is a holy man of God. 10 We should prepare a small room on the roof, and place a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp in it for him. Then he can stay there when he visits us.”
11 One day he arrived, and he went into the room to lie down. 12 He said to Gehazi, his servant, “Call the Shunammite.” So he called her, and she stood before him. 13 He said to him, “Say to her, ‘You have put yourself through all this trouble for us. What could be done for you? Should we speak to the king or the commander of the army for you?’ ” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.”
14 He said, “Then what can be done for her?” Gehazi answered, “She and her husband are old, and they have no children.” 15 Elisha said, “Summon her.” He called her and she stood in the doorway. 16 He said, “You will embrace a son around this time next year.” She said, “No, my lord, O man of God. Do not lie to your servant.”
17 The woman became pregnant, and she had a son that time the next year, just as Elisha had predicted. 18 The child grew up, and one day he went out to his father who was with the reapers. 19 He said to his father, “My head! My head!” He said to a young man, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 He picked him up and brought him to his mother. He sat on her lap until noon when he died.
21 She went up and laid him on the bed belonging to the man of God. She closed him in the room and went out. 22 She called to her husband and said, “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys so that I can hurry to the man of God and return.” 23 He said, “Why would you go today? It is not a new moon or the Sabbath.” But she said, “It is all right.”[d]
24 She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Lead on, and do not slow down for me unless I tell you.” 25 So she departed and came to the man of God on Mount Carmel.
When the man of God saw her from a distance, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Behold, it is the Shunammite. 26 Run to her and say to her, ‘Is everything all right? Is your husband well? Is your child well?’ ” She answered, “It is all right.”
27 When she reached the man of God on the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi approached to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone. Her spirit is in despair, but the Lord had hidden it from me and did not tell me.”
28 She said, “Did I ask for a son from my lord? Did I not say, ‘Do not lie to me.’ ”
29 Elisha said to Gehazi, “Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hands, and go! If you meet anyone, do not greet him. And if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff upon the child’s face.”[e] 30 But the boy’s mother said, “As the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So he got up and followed her.
31 Gehazi went on before them, and he laid the staff upon the child’s face, but there was no sound or response. He went out to meet him, and he said to him, “The child did not wake up.”
32 When Elisha arrived at the house, the child was lying dead upon his bed. 33 He went in, and he shut the door on the two of them, and then he prayed to the Lord. 34 He got up and lay upon the child, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, and hands to hands. He stretched himself out upon the child, and the child’s flesh grew warm. 35 He turned and walked back and forth in the room, and then he went and stretched himself out again. The boy sneezed seven times, and then the boy opened his eyes.
36 Elisha called for Gehazi, and he said, “Call this Shunammite.” He called her, and she came, and he said to her, “Take your son.” 37 She came in and bowed down, falling to the ground at Elisha’s feet. She then took her son and left.
38 Poisoned Stew. Elisha returned to Gilgal, and there was a famine in the land. The sons of the prophets were sitting in front of him, and he said to his servant, “Set up the large pot and cook some soup for the sons of the prophets.”
39 One of them went out into the field to gather some herbs and he found a wild vine. He picked the wild gourds, filling his cloak. He cut them up into the pot of soup, although no one knew what they were.
40 When they poured out the soup for the men to eat, and they began to eat the soup, they cried out, “O man of God, there is death in the pot.” And they could not eat it.
41 He said, “Bring some flour.” He threw it into the pot and said, “Pour it out for the people to eat.” And there was nothing harmful in the pot.
42 Multiplication of Loaves. A man came from Baal-shalishah, and he brought the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread from the firstfruits along with some heads of grain. He said, “Give it to the people so that they might eat.” 43 His servant said, “What? Should I place this before one hundred men?” But he said again, “Give it to the people to eat, for thus says the Lord: They will eat, and there will be some left over.”
44 He set it before them, and they ate, and there was some left over, just as the Lord had predicted.

Dime qué tienes en casa». Y ella respondió: «Su sierva no tiene en casa más que una vasija de aceite(C)».
3 Entonces Eliseo le dijo: «Ve, pide vasijas prestadas por todas partes de todos tus vecinos, vasijas vacías; no pidas pocas. 4 Luego entra y cierra la puerta detrás de ti y de tus hijos y echa el aceite en todas estas vasijas, poniendo aparte las que estén llenas». 5 Y ella se fue de su lado, y cerró la puerta tras sí y de sus hijos; y ellos traían las vasijas y ella echaba el aceite. 6 Cuando las vasijas estuvieron llenas(D), ella dijo a un hijo suyo: «Tráeme otra vasija». Y él le dijo: «No hay más vasijas». Y cesó el aceite. 7 Entonces ella fue y se lo contó al hombre de Dios(E). Y él le dijo: «Ve, vende el aceite y paga tu deuda, y tú y tus hijos pueden vivir de lo que quede».
Eliseo y la sunamita
8 Un día pasaba Eliseo por Sunem(F), donde había una mujer distinguida, y ella lo persuadió a que comiera. Y sucedía que siempre que pasaba, entraba allí a comer. 9 Y ella dijo a su marido: «Ahora entiendo que este que siempre pasa por nuestra casa, es un santo hombre de Dios(G). 10 Te ruego que hagamos un pequeño aposento alto, con paredes, y pongamos allí para él una cama, una mesa, una silla y un candelero; y cuando venga a nosotros, se podrá retirar allí(H)».
11 Y un día que Eliseo vino por allí, se retiró al aposento alto y allí se acostó. 12 Después dijo a Giezi su criado(I): «Llama a esta sunamita». Y cuando la llamó, ella se presentó delante de él. 13 Entonces Eliseo le dijo a Giezi: «Dile ahora: “Ya que te has preocupado por nosotros con todo este cuidado[a], ¿qué puedo hacer por ti? ¿Quieres que hable por ti al rey o al jefe del ejército?”». Y ella respondió: «Yo vivo en medio de mi pueblo[b]». 14 Eliseo entonces preguntó: «¿Qué, pues, se puede hacer por ella?». Y Giezi respondió: «En verdad ella no tiene ningún hijo y su marido es viejo». 15 Y Eliseo dijo: «Llámala». Cuando él la llamó, ella se detuvo a la entrada. 16 Entonces Eliseo le dijo: «Por este tiempo, el año que viene[c], abrazarás un hijo(J)». Y ella dijo: «No, señor mío, hombre de Dios, no engañe usted a su sierva(K)». 17 Pero la mujer concibió y dio a luz un hijo al año siguiente en el[d] tiempo que Eliseo le había dicho.
18 Cuando el niño creció, llegó el día en que salió al campo adonde estaba su padre con los segadores, 19 y dijo a su padre: «¡Ay, mi cabeza, mi cabeza!». Y el padre dijo a un criado: «Llévalo a su madre». 20 Y tomándolo, el criado lo llevó a su madre, y el niño estuvo sentado en sus rodillas hasta el mediodía, y murió. 21 Entonces ella subió y lo puso sobre la cama(L) del hombre de Dios(M), cerró la puerta, y salió. 22 Luego llamó a su marido y le dijo: «Te ruego que me envíes uno de los criados y una de las asnas, para que yo vaya corriendo al hombre de Dios y regrese». 23 Y él dijo: «¿Por qué vas hoy a él? No es luna nueva ni día de reposo(N)». Y ella respondió: «Quédate en paz».
24 Entonces ella aparejó el asna y dijo a su criado: «Arrea[e] y anda; no detengas el paso[f] por mí a menos que yo te lo diga». 25 Y ella fue y llegó al hombre de Dios en el monte Carmelo(O). Cuando el hombre de Dios la vio a lo lejos, dijo a Giezi su criado: «Mira, allá viene la sunamita. 26 Te ruego que corras ahora a su encuentro y le digas: “¿Te va bien a ti? ¿Le va bien a tu marido? ¿Le va bien al niño?”». Y ella respondió: «Estamos bien». 27 Pero cuando ella llegó al monte, al hombre de Dios(P), se abrazó de sus pies. Y Giezi se acercó para apartarla, pero el hombre de Dios dijo: «Déjala, porque su alma está angustiada y el Señor me lo ha ocultado y no me lo ha revelado». 28 Entonces ella dijo: «¿Acaso pedí un hijo a mi señor? ¿No dije: “No me engañe usted(Q)?”».
29 Entonces Eliseo dijo a Giezi: «Prepárate(R), toma mi báculo en tu mano, y vete(S). Si encuentras a alguien, no lo saludes, y si alguien te saluda, no le respondas(T), y pon mi báculo sobre el rostro del niño(U)». 30 Y la madre del niño dijo: «Vive el Señor y vive su alma, que no me apartaré de usted(V)». Entonces Eliseo se levantó y la siguió. 31 Y Giezi se adelantó a ellos y puso el báculo sobre el rostro del niño, pero no hubo voz ni reacción[g]. Así que volvió para encontrar a Eliseo, y le dijo: «El niño no ha despertado(W)».
32 Cuando Eliseo entró en la casa, el niño ya estaba muerto, tendido sobre su cama. 33 Y entrando, cerró la puerta tras ambos y oró al Señor(X). 34 Entonces subió y se acostó sobre el niño, y puso la boca sobre su boca, los ojos sobre sus ojos y las manos sobre sus manos, y se tendió sobre él; y la carne del niño entró en calor(Y). 35 Entonces Eliseo volvió y caminó por la casa de un lado para otro, y subió y se tendió sobre él(Z); y el niño estornudó siete veces y abrió sus ojos. 36 Eliseo llamó a Giezi y le dijo: «Llama a la sunamita». Y él la llamó. Cuando ella vino a Eliseo, él le dijo: «Toma a tu hijo». 37 Entonces ella entró, cayó a sus pies y se postró en tierra, y tomando a su hijo, salió(AA).
Otros milagros de Eliseo
38 Cuando Eliseo regresó a Gilgal(AB), había hambre en la tierra(AC). Estando sentados los hijos de los profetas(AD) delante de él(AE), dijo a su criado: «Pon la olla(AF) grande y prepara un potaje para los hijos de los profetas». 39 Entonces uno de ellos salió al campo a recoger hierbas, y encontró una viña silvestre y de ella llenó su manto de calabazas silvestres, y vino y las cortó en pedazos en la olla de potaje, porque no sabía lo que eran. 40 Y lo sirvieron para que los hombres comieran. Y sucedió que cuando comían el potaje, clamaron y dijeron: «¡Oh hombre de Dios, hay muerte(AG) en la olla!». Y no pudieron comer. 41 Pero Eliseo les dijo: «Tráiganme harina». Y la echó en la olla, y dijo: «Sírvanlo a la gente para que coman». Y ya no había nada malo(AH) en la olla.
42 Y vino un hombre de Baal Salisa y trajo al hombre de Dios panes de primicias, veinte panes de cebada y espigas de grano nuevo en su bolsa. Y él dijo: «Dáselos a la gente para que coman(AI)». 43 Su sirviente le dijo: «¿Cómo pondré esto delante de cien hombres?». Pero él respondió: «Dáselos a la gente para que coman, porque así dice el Señor(AJ): “Comerán y sobrará”». 44 Y lo puso delante de ellos y comieron, y sobró conforme a la palabra del Señor(AK).

以利沙幫助窮寡婦
4 有一個先知的妻子哀求以利沙說：「你僕人——我丈夫怎樣敬畏耶和華，你是知道的。如今他去世了，債主來取我的兩個孩子做奴隸。」 2 以利沙問她：「我該怎樣幫你呢？告訴我，你家裡有什麼？」婦人答道：「婢女家什麼也沒有，只有一瓶油。」 3 以利沙說：「你去向所有的鄰居借空器皿，要儘量多借一些。 4 然後回家關上門，你和你兒子在屋裡把那瓶油倒在所有借來的器皿中，裝滿的放在一邊。」 5 於是，婦人辭別以利沙，回去後把自己和兒子關在屋裡，兒子遞給她器皿，她就倒油。 6 器皿都裝滿了，她對兒子說：「再拿個器皿給我。」兒子說：「已經沒有了。」這時，油止住了。 7 婦人將經過告訴上帝的僕人，上帝的僕人對她說：「你去把油賣了還債，你們母子可以用剩下的錢度日。」
以利沙和書念婦人
8 一天，以利沙路過書念，那裡一位富有的婦人挽留他吃飯。此後以利沙每次路過那裡，總到她家裡吃飯。 9 那婦人對丈夫說：「我看常路過我們這裡的這位是上帝聖潔的僕人。他常路過我們這裡， 10 不如我們在房頂上給他蓋一間小屋，裡面放床、桌子、椅子和燈。這樣，他來我們家時，可以在那裡休息。」
11 一天，以利沙又到了那裡，便在那間小屋裡休息。 12 以利沙吩咐僕人基哈西去請書念的婦人。她來了，站在以利沙面前。 13 以利沙吩咐基哈西說：「你對她說，『你為我們費了不少心，我們該為你做些什麼呢？要不要我們在王或元帥面前為你說些好話呢？』」她答道：「我在本族中安居無事。」 14 以利沙問基哈西：「我們能為她做什麼呢？」基哈西說：「她沒有兒子，丈夫也已經老了。」 15 以利沙說：「你再去請她來。」她來了，站在門口。 16 以利沙對她說：「明年這時候，你必抱一個兒子。」她說：「上帝的僕人，我主啊，不要騙我。」 17 那婦人果然懷了孕，在第二年的那時候生了一個兒子，應驗了以利沙對她說的話。
18 孩子漸漸長大。一天，他到收割的人那裡找他父親。 19 突然，他對他父親喊道：「我的頭啊！我的頭啊！」他父親見狀，立刻吩咐僕人抱他到他母親那裡。 20 僕人把他抱起來，送到他母親那裡。孩子坐在母親的膝上，到中午就死了。 21 他母親上樓把他放在上帝僕人的床上，關上門出來。 22 她叫來丈夫，對他說：「請你預備一個僕人和一頭驢，我好趕快去見上帝的僕人，然後返回來。」 23 她丈夫說：「今天不是朔日[a]，也不是安息日，你為什麼要去見他？」婦人說：「平安無事。」 24 她騎上驢，對僕人說：「快走吧！我不吩咐你，就不要慢下來。」
25 她就去迦密山見上帝的僕人。上帝的僕人遠遠望見她，就對僕人基哈西說：「你看，書念的婦人來了！ 26 你跑去迎接她，問問她和她的丈夫與孩子都好嗎。」
婦人對以利沙的僕人說：「一切都好。」
27 可是，她上山見到上帝的僕人後，就抱住他的腳。基哈西想要推開她，但上帝的僕人說：「由她吧！因為她心裡非常痛苦。耶和華沒有告訴我發生了什麼事。」 28 婦人說：「我何嘗向我主求過兒子呢？我不是對你說不要騙我嗎？」 29 以利沙吩咐基哈西：「你要束上腰帶，拿著我的杖去她家。路上不論遇見誰，都不要問候他。有人問候你，也不要作答。去把我的杖放在孩子臉上。」 30 孩子的母親說：「我憑永活的耶和華和你的性命起誓，你若不同去，我決不離開你。」於是，以利沙跟她同去。 31 基哈西先趕到，把杖放在孩子臉上，可是孩子一點動靜也沒有。他就回去找以利沙，路上碰見他，便說：「孩子還沒醒過來。」
32 以利沙進了屋子，看見孩子死了，躺在床上， 33 就關上門，向耶和華祈禱。 34 禱告後，他上床伏在孩子身上，口對口，眼對眼，手對手，孩子的身體漸漸變暖了。 35 然後，以利沙起來在房內來回走了一趟，又上床伏在孩子身上。孩子打了七個噴嚏，便睜開了眼睛。 36 以利沙叫基哈西請那婦人來。婦人來了，以利沙對她說：「把你兒子抱走吧。」 37 婦人進來，在以利沙腳前下拜，然後抱起兒子出去了。
用麵粉解毒
38 以利沙回到吉甲，那裡正鬧饑荒。一群先知坐在他面前，他吩咐僕人把一口大鍋放在火上給他們煮湯。 39 有個先知到田間摘野菜，看見一棵野瓜藤，便摘了一兜野瓜回來，切碎了放進鍋裡，卻不知道那是什麼瓜。 40 湯煮好後倒出來給眾人喝，他們剛喝了一點，就叫道：「上帝的僕人啊，湯裡有毒！」他們都不敢喝了。 41 以利沙說：「拿點麵粉來。」他把麵粉撒在鍋裡，說：「倒出來給眾人喝吧。」於是，湯裡沒有毒了。
用二十個餅餵飽百人
42 從巴力·沙利沙來了一個人，他帶了二十個用初熟大麥做的餅和一些麥穗送給上帝的僕人。上帝的僕人說：「分給眾人吃吧。」 43 僕人說：「這些怎麼夠一百人吃呢？」以利沙說：「你只管分給眾人吃。因為耶和華說，『眾人都能吃飽，並且還會剩下。』」 44 於是，僕人將食物擺在眾人面前，他們都吃飽了，果然還有剩餘，正如耶和華所言。

4 En kvinne som var hustru til en av profetenes disipler, ropte til Elisa og sa: Din tjener, min mann, er død, og du vet at din tjener fryktet Herren; og nu kommer en som han stod i gjeld til, og vil ta begge mine sønner til træler.
2 Elisa sa til henne: Hvad kan jeg gjøre for dig? Si mig: Hvad har du i huset? Hun svarte: Din tjenerinne har intet annet i huset enn en krukke med salve-olje.
3 Da sa han: Gå til alle dine naboer og be om å få låne hjem nogen tomme kar, bare ikke for få!
4 Gå så inn og lukk døren efter dig og dine sønner og hell oljen i alle karene, og efter hvert som de blir fulle, skal du sette dem bort.
5 Og hun gikk fra ham og lukket døren efter sig og sine sønner; de bar karene frem til henne, og hun helte i.
6 Og da karene var fulle, sa hun til sin sønn: Bær ennu et kar frem til mig! Men han svarte: Det er ikke flere kar. Da stanset oljen.
7 Så kom hun og fortalte det til den Guds mann, og han sa: Gå og selg oljen og betal din gjeld; så kan du og dine sønner leve av det som blir tilovers.
8 En dag gikk Elisa over til Sunem; en velstående kvinne som bodde der, nødde ham til å ete hos sig; og så ofte han siden drog der forbi, tok han inn der og fikk sig mat.
9 Engang sa hun til sin mann: Hør her, jeg vet at han som jevnlig drar forbi oss, er en hellig Guds mann.
10 La oss gjøre et lite tak-kammer med murvegger og sette inn der en seng for ham og et bord og en stol og en lysestake; når han så kommer til oss, kan han ta inn der.
11 Så kom han dit en dag og tok inn i tak-kammeret og la sig der.
12 Og han sa til sin dreng Gehasi: Kall på den sunamittiske kone som bor her! Så kalte han på henne, og hun trådte frem for ham.
13 Han hadde sagt til ham: Si til henne: Nu har du hatt all denne uro for vår skyld; hvad kan jeg gjøre for dig? Er det noget jeg kan tale til kongen om for dig eller til hærføreren? Hun svarte: Jeg bor jo her midt iblandt mitt folk.
14 Så sa han: Hvad kan jeg da gjøre for henne? Gehasi svarte: Jo, hun har ingen sønn, og hennes mann er gammel.
15 Da sa han: Kall på henne! Så kalte han på henne, og hun trådte frem i døren.
16 Da sa han: Til næste år ved denne tid skal du holde en sønn i dine armer. Men hun sa: Nei, min herre, du som er en Guds mann! Lyv ikke for din tjenerinne!
17 Og kvinnen blev fruktsommelig og fødte en sønn det følgende år nettop på den tid som Elisa hadde sagt henne.
18 Da barnet blev større, hendte det en dag at han gikk ut til sin far, som var ute hos høstfolkene.
19 Og han sa til sin far: Mitt hode! Mitt hode! Da sa faren til sin dreng: Bær ham hjem til hans mor!
20 Og han tok ham og bar ham hjem til hans mor, og han satt på hennes kne til om middagen; da døde han.
21 Hun gikk op og la ham på den Guds manns seng og lukket efter ham og gikk ut.
22 Så kalte hun på sin mann og sa: Send en av drengene til mig med en aseninne! Så vil jeg skynde mig avsted til den Guds mann og så komme tilbake.
23 Han sa: Hvorfor vil du gå til ham idag? Det er jo hverken nymåne eller sabbat. Men hun sa: La mig bare gå!
24 Så lot hun aseninnen sale og sa til sin dreng: Led den og gå avsted, stans mig ikke mens jeg rider, uten jeg sier dig til!
25 Så drog hun avsted og kom til den Guds mann på Karmel-fjellet. Da den Guds mann så henne et stykke borte, sa han til sin dreng Gehasi: Se, der kommer konen fra Sunem.
26 Spring henne nu i møte og si til henne: Står det vel til med dig og med din mann og med barnet? Hun svarte: Ja, det står vel til.
27 Men da hun kom op på fjellet til den Guds mann, omfavnet hun hans føtter; da gikk Gehasi frem og vilde støte henne bort, men den Guds mann sa: La henne være! For hun har en stor hjertesorg; men Herren har skjult det for mig og ikke latt mig få vite det.
28 Hun sa: Har jeg vel bedt min herre om en sønn? Sa jeg ikke: Du må ikke narre mig?
29 Da sa han til Gehasi: Omgjord dine lender og ta min stav i hånden og gå avsted! Møter du nogen, så hils ikke på ham, og hilser nogen på dig, så svar ham ikke, og legg min stav på guttens ansikt.
30 Men guttens mor sa: Så sant Herren lever, og så sant du selv lever: Jeg forlater dig ikke. Da stod han op og fulgte med henne.
31 Gehasi gikk i forveien og la staven på guttens ansikt; men det hørtes ikke en lyd og viste sig ikke noget tegn til at han merket noget. Så vendte han tilbake og gikk Elisa i møte og fortalte ham det og sa: Gutten våknet ikke.
32 Og da Elisa kom til huset, fikk han se at gutten lå død på hans seng.
33 Så gikk han inn og lukket døren til og bad til Herren.
34 Derefter steg han op og la sig over barnet med sin munn mot dets munn og sine øine mot dets øine og sine hender på dets hender, og da han således bøide sig over barnet, blev dets legeme varmt.
35 Så stod han op igjen og gikk en gang frem og tilbake i kammeret; derefter steg han atter op og bøide sig over gutten; da nøs gutten syv ganger og slo øinene op.
36 Da kalte han på Gehasi og sa: Kall på den sunamittiske kone! Han kalte på henne, og da hun kom inn til ham, sa han: Ta din sønn!
37 Og hun kom og falt ned for hans føtter og bøide sig til jorden; så tok hun sin sønn og gikk ut.
38 Elisa vendte tilbake til Gilgal; det var dengang hungersnød i landet, og da profetenes disipler engang satt der hos ham, sa han til sin dreng: Sett den store gryte over og kok en rett mat for profetenes disipler!
39 Da gikk en av dem ut på marken for å sanke urter, og han fant en vill slyngplante og sanket av den ville gresskar, sin kappe full, og da han kom inn, skar han dem op i matgryten; for de kjente ikke til dem.
40 Så øste de op for mennene forat de skulde ete; men da de begynte å ete av retten, skrek de op og ropte: Det er død i gryten, du Guds mann! Og de kunde ikke ete.
41 Da sa han: Hent noget mel! Og han kastet det i gryten og sa: Øs op for folket, så de kan få ete! Og da var det ikke mere noget skadelig i gryten.
42 Engang kom det en mann fra Ba'al-Salisa og han hadde med til den Guds mann brød som var bakt av førstegrøden, tyve byggbrød, og nyhøstet korn i sin pose. Da sa Elisa: Gi det til folket, så de kan få ete!
43 Men hans tjener sa: Hvorledes kan jeg sette dette frem for hundre mann? Han svarte: Gi det til folket, så de kan få ete! For så sier Herren: De skal ete og få tilovers.
44 Så satte han det frem for dem, og de åt og fikk tilovers efter Herrens ord.

The Widow’s Olive Oil
4 The wife of a man from the company(A) of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor(B) is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”(C)
3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”
But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
7 She went and told the man of God,(D) and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
The Shunammite’s Son Restored to Life
8 One day Elisha went to Shunem.(E) And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat. 9 She said to her husband, “I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. 10 Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay(F) there whenever he comes to us.”
11 One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there. 12 He said to his servant Gehazi, “Call the Shunammite.”(G) So he called her, and she stood before him. 13 Elisha said to him, “Tell her, ‘You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’”
She replied, “I have a home among my own people.”
14 “What can be done for her?” Elisha asked.
Gehazi said, “She has no son, and her husband is old.”
15 Then Elisha said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway. 16 “About this time(H) next year,” Elisha said, “you will hold a son in your arms.”
“No, my lord!” she objected. “Please, man of God, don’t mislead your servant!”
17 But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.
18 The child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers.(I) 19 He said to his father, “My head! My head!”
His father told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died. 21 She went up and laid him on the bed(J) of the man of God, then shut the door and went out.
22 She called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return.”
23 “Why go to him today?” he asked. “It’s not the New Moon(K) or the Sabbath.”
“That’s all right,” she said.
24 She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Lead on; don’t slow down for me unless I tell you.” 25 So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.(L)
When he saw her in the distance, the man of God said to his servant Gehazi, “Look! There’s the Shunammite! 26 Run to meet her and ask her, ‘Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your child all right?’”
“Everything is all right,” she said.
27 When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress,(M) but the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me why.”
28 “Did I ask you for a son, my lord?” she said. “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t raise my hopes’?”
29 Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,(N) take my staff(O) in your hand and run. Don’t greet anyone you meet, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy’s face.”
30 But the child’s mother said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So he got up and followed her.
31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him, “The boy has not awakened.”
32 When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch.(P) 33 He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed(Q) to the Lord. 34 Then he got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched(R) himself out on him, the boy’s body grew warm. 35 Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times(S) and opened his eyes.(T)
36 Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite.” And he did. When she came, he said, “Take your son.”(U) 37 She came in, fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then she took her son and went out.
Death in the Pot
38 Elisha returned to Gilgal(V) and there was a famine(W) in that region. While the company of the prophets was meeting with him, he said to his servant, “Put on the large pot and cook some stew for these prophets.”
39 One of them went out into the fields to gather herbs and found a wild vine and picked as many of its gourds as his garment could hold. When he returned, he cut them up into the pot of stew, though no one knew what they were. 40 The stew was poured out for the men, but as they began to eat it, they cried out, “Man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it.
41 Elisha said, “Get some flour.” He put it into the pot and said, “Serve it to the people to eat.” And there was nothing harmful in the pot.(X)
Feeding of a Hundred
42 A man came from Baal Shalishah,(Y) bringing the man of God twenty loaves(Z) of barley bread(AA) baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.
43 “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.
But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat.(AB) For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.(AC)’” 44 Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.
