2 Kings 12
New Century Version
12 Joash became king of Judah in Jehu’s seventh year as king of Israel, and he ruled for forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zibiah, and she was from Beersheba. 2 Joash did what the Lord said was right as long as Jehoiada the priest taught him. 3 But the places where gods were worshiped were not removed; the people still made sacrifices and burned incense there.
Joash Repairs the Temple
4 Joash said to the priests, “Take all the money brought as offerings to the Temple of the Lord. This includes the money each person owes in taxes and the money each person promises or brings freely to the Lord. 5 Each priest will take the money from the people he serves. Then the priests must repair any damage they find in the Temple.”
6 But by the twenty-third year Joash was king, the priests still had not repaired the Temple. 7 So King Joash called for Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and said to them, “Why aren’t you repairing the damage of the Temple? Don’t take any more money from the people you serve, but hand over the money for the repair of the Temple.” 8 The priests agreed not to take any more money from the people and not to repair the Temple themselves.
9 Jehoiada the priest took a box and made a hole in the top of it. Then he put it by the altar, on the right side as the people came into the Temple of the Lord. The priests guarding the doorway put all the money brought to the Temple of the Lord into the box.
10 Each time the priests saw that the box was full of money, the king’s royal secretary and the high priest came. They counted the money that had been brought to the Temple of the Lord, and they put it into bags. 11 Next they weighed the money and gave it to the people in charge of the work on the Temple. With it they paid the carpenters and the builders who worked on the Temple of the Lord, 12 as well as the bricklayers and stonecutters. They also used the money to buy timber and cut stone to repair the damage of the Temple of the Lord. It paid for everything.
13 The money brought into the Temple of the Lord was not used to make silver cups, wick trimmers, bowls, trumpets, or gold or silver vessels. 14 They paid the money to the workers, who used it to repair the Temple of the Lord. 15 They did not demand to know how the money was spent, because the workers were honest. 16 The money from the penalty offerings and sin offerings was not brought into the Temple of the Lord, because it belonged to the priests.
Joash Saves Jerusalem
17 About this time Hazael king of Aram attacked Gath and captured it. Then he went to attack Jerusalem. 18 Joash king of Judah took all the holy things given by his ancestors, the kings of Judah—Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah. He also took his own holy things as well as the gold that was found in the treasuries of the Temple of the Lord and the gold from the palace. Joash sent all this treasure to Hazael king of Aram, who turned away from Jerusalem.
19 Everything else Joash did is written in the book of the history of the kings of Judah. 20 His officers made plans against him and killed him at Beth Millo on the road down to Silla. 21 The officers who killed him were Jozabad son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer. Joash was buried with his ancestors in Jerusalem, and Amaziah, his son, became king in his place.

12 In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash[a] began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba. 2 And Jehoash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all his days, because Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3 Nevertheless, (A)the high places were not taken away; the people continued to sacrifice and make offerings on the high places.
Jehoash Repairs the Temple
4 Jehoash said to the priests, “All the money of the holy things (B)that is brought into the house of the Lord, the money for which each man is assessed—the money from the assessment of persons—and (C)the money that a man's heart prompts him to bring into the house of the Lord, 5 let the priests take, each from his donor, and let them repair the house wherever any need of repairs is discovered.” 6 But by the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests had made no repairs on the house. 7 Therefore King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and said to them, “Why are you not repairing the house? Now therefore take no more money from your donors, but hand it over for the repair of the house.” 8 So the priests agreed that they should take no more money from the people, and that they should not repair the house.
9 Then Jehoiada the priest took (D)a chest and bored a hole in the lid of it and set it beside the altar on the right side as one entered the house of the Lord. And the priests who guarded the threshold put in it all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord. 10 And whenever they saw that there was much money in the chest, the king's secretary and the high priest came up and they bagged and counted (E)the money that was found in the house of the Lord. 11 Then they would give the money that was weighed out into the hands of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of the Lord. And they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders who worked on the house of the Lord, 12 and (F)to the masons and the stonecutters, as well as to buy timber and quarried stone for making repairs on the house of the Lord, and for any outlay for the repairs of the house. 13 (G)But there were not made for the house of the Lord (H)basins of silver, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, or any vessels of gold, or of silver, from the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, 14 for that was given to the workmen who were repairing the house of the Lord with it. 15 And (I)they did not ask for an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to pay out to the workmen, for they dealt honestly. 16 The money from (J)the guilt offerings and the money from the (K)sin offerings was not brought into the house of the Lord; (L)it belonged to the priests.
17 At that time (M)Hazael king of Syria went up and fought against Gath and took it. But when Hazael set his face (N)to go up against Jerusalem, 18 Jehoash king of Judah (O)took all the sacred gifts that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah his fathers, the kings of Judah, had dedicated, (P)and his own sacred gifts, and all the gold that was found in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and of the king's house, and sent these to Hazael king of Syria. Then Hazael went away from Jerusalem.
The Death of Joash
19 Now the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 20 (Q)His servants arose and made a conspiracy (R)and struck down Joash in the house of (S)Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla. 21 It was (T)Jozacar the son of Shimeath and Jehozabad the son of (U)Shomer, his servants, who struck him down, so that he died. And they buried him with his fathers in the city of David, (V)and Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

– Соберите все деньги, что приносятся как священный дар в храм Вечного, – деньги, собранные по переписи, деньги, полученные по обетам, и деньги, которые были добровольно пожертвованы на храм. 5 Пусть возьмут деньги у жертвующих и используют их на восстановление храма, там где найдётся повреждение.
6 Но к двадцать шестому году правления царя Иоаша священнослужители всё ещё не восстановили храм.
7 И вот, царь Иоаш призвал священнослужителя Иодая и прочих священнослужителей и сказал им:
– Почему вы не восстанавливаете храм? Не берите больше денег у жертвующих, а передайте их на восстановление храма.
8 Священнослужители согласились, что не будут больше ни принимать от народа денег, ни отвечать за восстановление храма.
9 Священнослужитель Иодай взял ящик и проделал в его крышке дыру. Он поставил его у жертвенника, с правой стороны от входа в храм Вечного, и священнослужители, которые охраняли вход, клали в ящик все деньги, приносимые в храм Вечного. 10 Всякий раз, когда они видели, что в ящике много денег, приходили царский писарь и главный священнослужитель, считали деньги, принесённые в храм Вечного, и клали их в мешки. 11 Когда деньги были пересчитаны, они отдавали их тем, кто смотрел за работами в храме. А они платили тем, кто работал в храме Вечного, – плотникам и строителям, 12 тем, кто клал стены, и тем, кто тесал камни. Они также покупали дерево и тёсаные камни для восстановления храма Вечного и оплачивали все прочие расходы на восстановление храма.
13 Но ни серебряных кубков, ни ножниц для фитилей, ни кропильных чаш, ни труб, ни иных вещей из золота или серебра для храма Вечного не изготовляли на деньги, приносимые в храм. 14 Деньги платили рабочим, которые восстанавливали храм. 15 От тех, кому отдавали деньги для выплаты рабочим, не требовали отчёта, потому что они действовали честно. 16 Деньги от жертв повинности и жертв за грех не вносились в храм Вечного – они шли священнослужителям.
Иоаш спасает Иерусалим от Хазаила(B)
17 В то время Хазаил, царь Сирии, напал на город Гат и захватил его. Затем он решил идти на Иерусалим. 18 Но Иоаш, царь Иудеи, взял все священные вещи, посвящённые его предками – Иосафатом, Иорамом и Охозией, царями Иудеи, дары, которые посвятил он сам, и всё золото, которое нашлось в сокровищницах храма Вечного и царского дворца, и послал их Хазаилу, царю Сирии, который после этого отошёл от Иерусалима.
Смерть Иоаша(C)
19 Прочие события царствования Иоаша и всё, что он сделал, записано в «Книге летописей царей Иудеи». 20 Его приближённые составили против него заговор и убили его в Бет-Милло, что на дороге, которая спускается к Силле. 21 Иозавад, сын Шимеаты, и Иехозавад, сын Шомеры, – вот те приближённые, которые убили его. Он был похоронен со своими предками в Городе Давуда. И царём вместо него стал его сын Амасия.
