²⁹ so King Joram returned to Jezreel^(A) to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramoth^[a] in his battle with Hazael^(B) king of Aram.

Then Ahaziah^(C) son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he had been wounded.

¹⁵ but King Joram^[a] had returned to Jezreel to recover^(A) from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle with Hazael king of Aram.) Jehu said, “If you desire to make me king, don’t let anyone slip out of the city to go and tell the news in Jezreel.” ¹⁶ Then he got into his chariot and rode to Jezreel, because Joram was resting there and Ahaziah^(B) king of Judah had gone down to see him.

⁵ He also followed their counsel when he went with Joram^[a] son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead.^(A) The Arameans wounded Joram; ⁶ so he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds they had inflicted on him at Ramoth^[b] in his battle with Hazael^(B) king of Aram.

Then Ahaziah^[c] son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab because he had been wounded.

⁷ Through Ahaziah’s^(C) visit to Joram, God brought about Ahaziah’s downfall. When Ahaziah arrived, he went out with Joram to meet Jehu son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.

²⁸ Ahaziah went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead.^(A) The Arameans wounded Joram;

³⁴ But someone drew his bow^(A) at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told his chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.”
