Elisha Succeeds Elijah

¹⁵ Now when ^(A)the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

^14 (A)If you are insulted ^(B)for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory^[a] and of God rests upon you.

⁸ But you will receive ^(A)power ^(B)when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and ^(C)you will be ^(D)my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and ^(E)Samaria, and ^(F)to the end of the earth.”

⁹ But he said to me, ^(A)“My grace is sufficient for you, for ^(B)my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that ^(C)the power of Christ may rest upon me.

²⁶ “But ^(A)when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, ^(B)he will bear witness about me. ²⁷ And ^(C)you also will bear witness, ^(D)because you have been with me ^(E)from the beginning.

²¹ “And as for me, ^(A)this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit that is upon you, ^(B)and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children's offspring,” says the Lord, “from this time forth and forevermore.”

The Axe Head Recovered

6 Now ^(A)the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See, the place where we dwell under your charge is too small for us. ² Let us go to the Jordan and each of us get there a log, and let us make a place for us to dwell there.” And he answered, “Go.” ³ Then one of them said, “Be pleased to go with your servants.” And he answered, “I will go.” ⁴ So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. ⁵ But as one was felling a log, his axe head fell into the water, and he cried out, “Alas, my master! It was borrowed.” ⁶ Then the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, ^(B)he cut off a stick and threw it in there and made the iron float. ⁷ And he said, “Take it up.” So he reached out his hand and took it.

³⁷ She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground. ^(A)Then she picked up her son and went out.
