³⁵ And that night ^(A)the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

¹⁶ And when ^(A)the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem ^(B)to destroy it, ^(C)the Lord relented from the calamity and said to the angel ^(D)who was working destruction among the people, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” And ^(E)the angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of ^(F)Araunah the Jebusite.

The Tenth Plague: Death of the Firstborn

^29 (A)At midnight the ^(B)Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, ^(C)from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock. ³⁰ And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians. And there was ^(D)a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where someone was not dead.

²¹ And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with ^(A)shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword. ²² So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all his enemies, and he provided for them on every side.

² For you yourselves are fully aware that ^(A)the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then ^(B)sudden destruction will come upon them ^(C)as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

²³ Immediately ^(A)an angel of the Lord struck him down, because ^(B)he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

⁷ But ^(A)I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the Lord their God. I ^(B)will not save them by bow or by sword or by war or by horses or by horsemen.”

^30 (A)That very night ^(B)Belshazzar the ^(C)Chaldean king was killed.

³⁰ And the Lord ^(A)will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger ^(B)and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst ^(C)and storm and hailstones. ³¹ The Assyrians will be terror-stricken at the voice of the Lord, ^(D)when he strikes with his rod. ³² And every stroke of the appointed staff that the Lord lays on them ^(E)will be to the sound of tambourines and lyres. ^(F)Battling with brandished arm, he will fight with them. ³³ For ^(G)a burning place^[a] has long been prepared; indeed, for the king it is made ready, ^(H)its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; ^(I)the breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
