² Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber in Samaria, and lay sick; so he sent messengers, telling them, “Go, inquire of ^(A)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, ^(B)whether I shall recover from this sickness.”

¹⁶ and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of ^(A)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word?—therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’”

Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

²² And ^(A)the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, ^(B)“He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.”

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. ^(A)If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign^[a] those of his household.

Hazael Murders Ben-hadad

⁷ Now Elisha came to ^(A)Damascus. ^(B)Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick. And when it was told him, “The man of God has come here,” ⁸ the king said to ^(C)Hazael, ^(D)“Take a present with you and go to meet the man of God, ^(E)and inquire of the Lord through him, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this sickness?’” ⁹ So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, all kinds of goods of Damascus, forty camels' loads. When he came and stood before him, he said, ^(F)“Your son Ben-hadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this sickness?’” ¹⁰ And Elisha said to him, ^(G)“Go, say to him, ‘You shall certainly recover,’ but^[a] the Lord has shown me that ^(H)he shall certainly die.”

¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed.

¹⁵ But some of them said, “He casts out demons ^(A)by Beelzebul, the prince of demons,”

^12 (A)Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations that my fathers destroyed, ^(B)Gozan, ^(C)Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar?

⁶ And they said to him, “There came a man to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go back to the king who sent you, and say to him, Thus says the Lord, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of ^(A)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’”

³ But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah ^(A)the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of ^(B)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?
