Ang Paghahari ni Jehoahaz sa Juda(A)

36 Ang anak ni Josia na si Jehoahaz ang ipinalit ng mga tao na hari sa Jerusalem. Si Jehoahaz ay 23 taong gulang nang maging hari. Sa Jerusalem siya tumira, at naghari siya roon sa loob ng tatlong buwan. Tinanggal siya sa kanyang trono ni Haring Neco ng Egipto, at pinagbayad ni Neco ang mga taga-Juda ng buwis na 3,500 kilong pilak at 35 kilong ginto. Dinalang bihag ni Neco si Jehoahaz sa Egipto, at ginawa niyang hari ng Juda at Jerusalem si Eliakim na kapatid ni Jehoahaz. Pinalitan niya ang pangalan ni Eliakim na Jehoyakim.

Ang Paghahari ni Jehoyakim sa Juda(B)

Si Jehoyakim ay 25 taong gulang nang maging hari. Sa Jerusalem siya tumira, at naghari siya roon sa loob ng 11 taon. Masama ang ginawa niya sa paningin ng Panginoon na kanyang Dios. Nilusob siya ni Haring Nebucadnezar ng Babilonia at kinadenahan, at dinala sa Babilonia. Dinala rin ni Nebucadnezar sa Babilonia ang ibang mga kagamitan ng templo ng Panginoon at inilagay sa kanyang palasyo.[a]

Ang ibang mga salaysay tungkol sa paghahari ni Jehoyakim at ang mga kasuklam-suklam at masasamang bagay na ginawa niya ay nakasulat sa Aklat ng Kasaysayan ng mga hari ng Israel at Juda. At ang anak niyang si Jehoyakin ang pumalit sa kanya bilang hari.

Ang Paghahari ni Jehoyakin sa Juda(C)

Si Jehoyakin ay 18 taong gulang nang maging hari. Sa Jerusalem siya tumira, at naghari siya roon sa loob ng tatlong buwan at sampung araw. Masama ang ginawa niya sa paningin ng Panginoon. 10 Sa pagsisimula ng taon, binihag ni Haring Nebucadnezar si Jehoyakin sa Babilonia. Pinagkukuha niya ang mga mamahaling ari-arian sa templo ng Panginoon, at ginawa niyang hari ng Juda at Jerusalem ang tiyuhin ni Jehoyakin na si Zedekia.

Ang Paghahari ni Zedekia sa Juda(D)

11 Si Zedekia ay 21 taong gulang nang maging hari. Sa Jerusalem siya tumira, at naghari siya roon sa loob ng 11 taon. 12 Masama ang ginawa niya sa paningin ng Panginoon na kanyang Dios at hindi siya nagpakumbaba kay Jeremias na propeta ng Panginoon. 13 Nagrebelde rin siya kay Haring Nebucadnezar, kahit pinanumpa siya nito sa pangalan ng Dios na hindi siya maghihimagsik sa kanya. Naging matigas ang puso ni Zedekia, at ayaw niyang manumbalik sa Panginoon, ang Dios ng Israel. 14 Gayon din ang lahat ng punong pari at ang mga mamamayan ay hindi naging tapat sa Dios. Sinunod nila ang kasuklam-suklam na mga ginagawa ng ibang mga bansa at dinungisan ang templo ng Panginoon, na itinalagang banal sa Jerusalem.

Ang Pagkawasak ng Jerusalem(E)

15 Laging nakikipag-usap sa kanila ang Panginoon, ang Dios ng kanilang mga ninuno, sa pamamagitan ng kanyang mga propeta, dahil naawa siya sa kanila at sa kanyang templo. 16 Pero hinamak nila ang mga propeta ng Dios, pinagtawanan, at binalewala ang kanilang mga mensahe. Kaya nagalit ang Panginoon sa kanila, at wala nang makakapigil sa kanya. 17 Ipinalusob niya ang mga taga-Babilonia sa kanila. Pinatay ng mga taga-Babilonia ang kanilang mga kabataang lalaki kahit sa templo. Wala silang awa kahit kaninuman, lalaki man o babae, bata man o matanda, sakitin man o hindi. Ipinaubaya ng Dios ang lahat niyang mamamayan kay Nebucadnezar. 18 Dinala ni Nebucadnezar sa Babilonia ang lahat ng kagamitan sa templo ng Dios, maliliit at malalaki, at ang lahat ng kayamanan ng templo, ng hari, at ng kanyang mga opisyal. 19 Pagkatapos, sinunog nila ang templo ng Dios at tinibag ang pader ng Jerusalem. Sinunog din nila ang lahat ng matitibay na bahagi ng lungsod, at giniba ang lahat ng mamahaling bagay. 20 Dinalang bihag ni Nebucadnezar sa Babilonia ang mga Israelita na hindi namatay, at ang mga ito ay naging alipin niya at ng kanyang mga anak hanggang sa naging makapangyarihan ang kaharian ng Persia. 21 Kaya natupad ang sinabi ng Panginoon sa pamamagitan ni Propeta Jeremias, na magiging mapanglaw ang lupain at makakapagpahinga ito sa loob ng 70 taon.

Pinabalik ni Cyrus ang mga Israelita sa Kanilang Lupain(F)

22 Noong unang taon ng paghahari ni Cyrus sa Persia, tinupad ng Panginoon ang sinabi niya sa pamamagitan ni Jeremias. Hinipo niya ang puso ni Cyrus para gumawa ng isang pahayag. Isinulat ito at ipinadala sa kanyang buong kaharian. 23 Ito ang mensahe ni Haring Cyrus ng Persia:

“Ibinigay sa akin ng Panginoon, ang Dios ng kalangitan, ang lahat ng kaharian dito sa mundo, at pinagkatiwalaan niya ako sa pagpapatayo ng templo para sa kanya roon sa Jerusalem na sakop ng Juda. Kayong lahat ng mamamayan ng Dios, bumalik na kayo sa inyong lupain. At nawaʼy samahan kayo ng Panginoon.”

36 And the people(A) of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and made him king in Jerusalem in place of his father.

Jehoahaz King of Judah(B)

Jehoahaz[a] was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. The king of Egypt dethroned him in Jerusalem and imposed on Judah a levy of a hundred talents[b] of silver and a talent[c] of gold. The king of Egypt made Eliakim, a brother of Jehoahaz, king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. But Necho(C) took Eliakim’s brother Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt.(D)

Jehoiakim King of Judah(E)

Jehoiakim(F) was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God. Nebuchadnezzar(G) king of Babylon attacked him and bound him with bronze shackles to take him to Babylon.(H) Nebuchadnezzar also took to Babylon articles from the temple of the Lord and put them in his temple[d] there.(I)

The other events of Jehoiakim’s reign, the detestable things he did and all that was found against him, are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king.

Jehoiachin King of Judah(J)

Jehoiachin(K) was eighteen[e] years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and ten days. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 10 In the spring, King Nebuchadnezzar sent for him and brought him to Babylon,(L) together with articles of value from the temple of the Lord, and he made Jehoiachin’s uncle,[f] Zedekiah, king over Judah and Jerusalem.

Zedekiah King of Judah(M)

11 Zedekiah(N) was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. 12 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord(O) his God and did not humble(P) himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke the word of the Lord. 13 He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him take an oath(Q) in God’s name. He became stiff-necked(R) and hardened his heart and would not turn to the Lord, the God of Israel. 14 Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people became more and more unfaithful,(S) following all the detestable practices of the nations and defiling the temple of the Lord, which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.

The Fall of Jerusalem(T)(U)

15 The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers(V) again and again,(W) because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. 16 But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed(X) at his prophets until the wrath(Y) of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.(Z) 17 He brought up against them the king of the Babylonians,[g](AA) who killed their young men with the sword in the sanctuary, and did not spare young men(AB) or young women, the elderly or the infirm.(AC) God gave them all into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar.(AD) 18 He carried to Babylon all the articles(AE) from the temple of God, both large and small, and the treasures of the Lord’s temple and the treasures of the king and his officials. 19 They set fire(AF) to God’s temple(AG) and broke down the wall(AH) of Jerusalem; they burned all the palaces and destroyed(AI) everything of value there.(AJ)

20 He carried into exile(AK) to Babylon the remnant, who escaped from the sword, and they became servants(AL) to him and his successors until the kingdom of Persia came to power. 21 The land enjoyed its sabbath rests;(AM) all the time of its desolation it rested,(AN) until the seventy years(AO) were completed in fulfillment of the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah.

22 In the first year of Cyrus(AP) king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing:

23 “This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:

“‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed(AQ) me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up, and may the Lord their God be with them.’”
