¹¹ For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, ^(A)what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.

¹⁵ Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,^[a] a worker ^(A)who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

²¹ In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels ^(A)I charge you to keep these rules without prejudging, ^(B)doing nothing from partiality. ^22 (C)Do not be hasty in the ^(D)laying on of hands, nor ^(E)take part in the sins of others; keep yourself pure.

¹⁸ Whoever thus serves Christ is ^(A)acceptable to God and approved by men.

⁷ and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted by you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more.

^19 (A)Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

²³ save others by ^(A)snatching them out of ^(B)the fire; to others show mercy ^(C)with fear, hating even ^(D)the garment^[a] stained by the flesh.

^2 (A)Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual ^(B)milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—

¹⁷ And if you ^(A)call on him as Father who ^(B)judges ^(C)impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves ^(D)with fear throughout the time of your exile,
