⁹ For this is why I wrote, that I might ^(A)test you and know ^(B)whether you are obedient in everything.

^6 (A)being ready to punish every disobedience, ^(B)when your obedience is complete.

²² But you know Timothy's^{[a] (A)}proven worth, how ^(B)as a son^[b] with a father ^(C)he has served with me in the gospel.

^21 (A)Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say.

¹⁴ If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and ^(A)have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed.

Lights in the World

¹² Therefore, my beloved, ^(A)as you have always ^(B)obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

²⁴ So give proof before the churches of your love and of ^(A)our boasting about you to these men.

¹² So although I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of the one ^(A)who did the wrong, nor for the sake of the one who suffered the wrong, but in order that your earnestness for us might be revealed to you in the sight of God. ¹³ Therefore ^(B)we are comforted.

And besides our own comfort, we rejoiced still more at the joy of Titus, because his spirit ^(C)has been refreshed by you all. ¹⁴ For ^(D)whatever boasts I made to him about you, I was not put to shame. But just as everything we said to you ^(E)was true, so also our boasting before Titus has proved true. ¹⁵ And his affection for you is even greater, as he remembers ^(F)the obedience of you all, how you received him with fear and trembling.

³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God ^(A)is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

¹⁶ who fed you in the wilderness with ^(A)manna that your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, ^(B)to do you good in the end.
