7 Lorsque Salomon eut achevé de prier, le feu descendit du ciel et consuma l'holocauste et les sacrifices, et la gloire de l'Éternel remplit la maison.
2 Les sacrificateurs ne pouvaient entrer dans la maison de l'Éternel, car la gloire de l'Éternel remplissait la maison de l'Éternel.
3 Tous les enfants d'Israël virent descendre le feu et la gloire de l'Éternel sur la maison; ils s'inclinèrent le visage contre terre sur le pavé, se prosternèrent et louèrent l'Éternel, en disant: Car il est bon, car sa miséricorde dure à toujours!
4 Le roi et tout le peuple offrirent des sacrifices devant l'Éternel.
5 Le roi Salomon immola vingt-deux mille boeufs et cent vingt mille brebis. Ainsi le roi et tout le peuple firent la dédicace de la maison de Dieu.
6 Les sacrificateurs se tenaient à leur poste, et les Lévites aussi avec les instruments faits en l'honneur de l'Éternel par le roi David pour le chant des louanges de l'Éternel, lorsque David les chargea de célébrer l'Éternel en disant: Car sa miséricorde dure à toujours! Les sacrificateurs sonnaient des trompettes vis-à-vis d'eux. Et tout Israël était là.
7 Salomon consacra le milieu du parvis, qui est devant la maison de l'Éternel; car il offrit là les holocaustes et les graisses des sacrifices d'actions de grâces, parce que l'autel d'airain qu'avait fait Salomon ne pouvait contenir les holocaustes, les offrandes et les graisses.
8 Salomon célébra la fête en ce temps-là pendant sept jours, et tout Israël avec lui; une grande multitude était venue depuis les environs de Hamath jusqu'au torrent d'Égypte.
9 Le huitième jour, ils eurent une assemblée solennelle; car ils firent la dédicace de l'autel pendant sept jours, et la fête pendant sept jours.
10 Le vingt-troisième jour du septième mois, Salomon renvoya dans ses tentes le peuple joyeux et content pour le bien que l'Éternel avait fait à David, à Salomon, et à Israël, son peuple.
11 Lorsque Salomon eut achevé la maison de l'Éternel et la maison du roi, et qu'il eut réussi dans tout ce qu'il s'était proposé de faire dans la maison de l'Éternel et dans la maison du roi,
12 l'Éternel apparut à Salomon pendant la nuit, et lui dit: J'exauce ta prière, et je choisis ce lieu comme la maison où l'on devra m'offrir des sacrifices.
13 Quand je fermerai le ciel et qu'il n'y aura point de pluie, quand j'ordonnerai aux sauterelles de consumer le pays, quand j'enverrai la peste parmi mon peuple;
14 si mon peuple sur qui est invoqué mon nom s'humilie, prie, et cherche ma face, et s'il se détourne de ses mauvaises voies, -je l'exaucerai des cieux, je lui pardonnerai son péché, et je guérirai son pays.
15 Mes yeux seront ouverts désormais, et mes oreilles seront attentives à la prière faite en ce lieu.
16 Maintenant, je choisis et je sanctifie cette maison pour que mon nom y réside à jamais, et j'aurai toujours là mes yeux et mon coeur.
17 Et toi, si tu marches en ma présence comme a marché David, ton père, faisant tout ce que je t'ai commandé, et si tu observes mes lois et mes ordonnances,
18 j'affermirai le trône de ton royaume, comme je l'ai promis à David, ton père, en disant: Tu ne manqueras jamais d'un successeur qui règne en Israël.
19 Mais si vous vous détournez, si vous abandonnez mes lois et mes commandements que je vous ai prescrits, et si vous allez servir d'autres dieux et vous prosterner devant eux,
20 je vous arracherai de mon pays que je vous ai donné, je rejetterai loin de moi cette maison que j'ai consacrée à mon nom, et j'en ferai un sujet de sarcasme et de raillerie parmi tous les peuples.
21 Et si haut placée qu'ait été cette maison, quiconque passera près d'elle sera dans l'étonnement, et dira: Pourquoi l'Éternel a-t-il ainsi traité ce pays et cette maison?
22 Et l'on répondra: Parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères, qui les a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte, parce qu'ils se sont attachés à d'autres dieux, se sont prosternés devant eux et les ont servis; voilà pourquoi il a fait venir sur eux tous ces maux.

7 Und da Salomo ausgebetet hatte, fiel ein Feuer vom Himmel und verzehrte das Brandopfer und die anderen Opfer; und die Herrlichkeit des HERRN erfüllte das Haus,
2 daß die Priester nicht konnten hineingehen ins Haus des HERRN, weil die Herrlichkeit des HERRN füllte des HERRN Haus.
3 Auch sahen alle Kinder Israel das Feuer herabfallen und die Herrlichkeit des HERRN über dem Hause, und fielen auf ihre Kniee mit dem Antlitz zur Erde aufs Pflaster und beteten an und dankten dem HERRN, daß er gütig ist und seine Barmherzigkeit ewiglich währet.
4 Der König aber und alles Volk opferten vor dem HERRN;
5 denn der König Salomo opferte zweiundzwanzigtausend Ochsen und hundertzwanzigtausend Schafe. Und also weihten sie das Haus Gottes ein, der König und alles Volk.
6 Aber die Priester standen in ihrem Dienst und die Leviten mit den Saitenspielen des HERRN, die der König David hatte machen lassen, dem HERRN zu danken, daß seine Barmherzigkeit ewiglich währet, mit den Psalmen Davids durch ihre Hand; und die Priester bliesen die Drommeten ihnen gegenüber, und das ganze Israel stand.
7 Und Salomo heiligte die Mitte des Hofes, der vor dem Hause des HERRN war; denn er hatte daselbst Brandopfer und das Fett der Dankopfer ausgerichtet. Denn der eherne Altar, den Salomo hatte machen lassen, konnte nicht alle Brandopfer, Speisopfer und das Fett fassen.
8 Und Salomo hielt zu derselben Zeit ein Fest sieben Tage lang und das ganze Israel mit ihm, eine sehr große Gemeinde, von Hamath an bis an den Bach Ägyptens,
9 und hielt am achten Tag eine Versammlung; denn die Einweihung des Altars hielten sie sieben Tage und das Fest auch sieben Tage.
10 Aber am dreiundzwanzigsten Tag des siebenten Monats ließ er das Volk heimgehen in ihre Hütten fröhlich und guten Muts über allem Guten, das der HERR an David, Salomo und seinem Volk Israel getan hatte.
11 Also vollendete Salomo das Haus des HERRN und das Haus des Königs; und alles, was in sein Herz gekommen war, zu machen im Hause des HERRN und in seinem Hause, gelang ihm.
12 Und der HERR erschien Salomo des Nachts und sprach zu ihm: Ich habe dein Gebet erhört und diese Stätte mir erwählt zum Opferhause.
13 Siehe, wenn ich den Himmel zuschließe, daß es nicht regnet, oder heiße die Heuschrecken das Land fressen oder lasse Pestilenz unter mein Volk kommen,
14 und mein Volk sich demütigt, das nach meinem Namen genannt ist, daß sie beten und mein Angesicht suchen und sich von ihren bösen Wegen bekehren werden: so will ich vom Himmel hören und ihre Sünde vergeben und ihr Land heilen.
15 So sollen nun meine Augen offen sein und meine Ohren aufmerken auf das Gebet an dieser Stätte.
16 So habe ich nun dies Haus erwählt und geheiligt, daß mein Name daselbst sein soll ewiglich und meine Augen und mein Herz soll da sein allewege.
17 Und so du wirst vor mir wandeln, wie dein Vater David gewandelt hat, daß du tust alles, was ich dich heiße, und hältst meine Gebote und Rechte:
18 so will ich den Stuhl deines Königreichs bestätigen, wie ich mich deinem Vater David verbunden habe und gesagt: Es soll dir nicht gebrechen an einem Manne, der über Israel Herr sei.
19 Werdet ihr euch aber umkehren und meine Rechte und Gebote, die ich euch vorgelegt habe, verlassen und hingehen und andern Göttern dienen und sie anbeten:
20 so werde ich sie auswurzeln aus meinem Lande, das ich ihnen gegeben habe; und dies Haus, das ich meinem Namen geheiligt habe, werde ich von meinem Angesicht werfen und werde es zum Sprichwort machen und zur Fabel unter allen Völkern.
21 Und vor diesem Haus, das das höchste gewesen ist, werden sich entsetzen alle, die vorübergehen, und sagen: Warum ist der HERR mit diesem Lande und diesem Hause also verfahren?
22 so wird man sagen: Darum daß sie den HERRN, ihrer Väter Gott, verlassen haben, der sie aus Ägyptenland geführt hat, und haben sich an andere Götter gehängt und sie angebetet und ihnen gedient, darum hat er all dies Unglück über sie gebracht.

The Temple Is Given to the Lord
7 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from the sky. It burned up the burnt offering and the sacrifices. The Lord’s glory filled the Temple. 2 The priests could not enter the Temple of the Lord because the Lord’s glory filled it. 3 All the people of Israel saw the fire come down from heaven. They also saw the Lord’s glory on the Temple. Then they bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground. They worshiped and thanked the Lord. They said,
“The Lord is good.
His love continues forever.”
4 Then King Solomon and all the Israelites offered sacrifices before the Lord. 5 King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the people gave the Temple for the worship of God. 6 The priests stood ready to do their work. The Levites also stood with the instruments of the Lord’s music. King David had made these instruments for praising the Lord. The priests and Levites were saying, “The Lord’s love continues forever.” The priests, who stood across from the Levites, blew their trumpets. And all the Israelites were standing.
7 Solomon made the middle part of the courtyard holy for the Lord. That courtyard is in front of the Temple of the Lord. There Solomon offered burnt offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings. He used the middle of the courtyard because the bronze altar he had made could not hold everything. It couldn’t hold the burnt offerings, grain offerings and fat.
8 Solomon and all the Israelites celebrated the festival for seven days. There were many people. They came from as far away as Lebo Hamath. And they came all the way from the brook of Egypt. 9 They had given the altar for the worship of the Lord. And they celebrated that for seven days. Then they celebrated the festival for seven days. On the eighth day they had a meeting. 10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month Solomon sent the people home. They were full of joy. They were happy because the Lord had been so good to David, Solomon and his people the Israelites.
The Lord Appears to Solomon
11 Solomon finished the Temple of the Lord and the king’s palace. He had success in doing everything he planned in the Temple of the Lord and his own palace. 12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night. The Lord said, “Solomon, I have heard your prayer. And I have chosen this place for myself to be a Temple for sacrifices.
13 “I may stop the sky from sending rain. I may command the locusts to destroy the land. I may send sicknesses to my people. 14 Then my people, who are called by my name, will be sorry for what they have done. They will pray and obey me and stop their evil ways. If they do, I will hear them from heaven. I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land. 15 Now I will see them. And I will listen to the prayers prayed in this place. 16 I have chosen this Temple and made it holy. So I will be worshiped here forever. Yes, I will always watch over it and love it.
17 “Solomon, obey me as your father David did. Obey all I have commanded. Obey my laws and rules. 18 If you do, I will make your kingdom strong. This is the agreement I made with your father David. I told him, ‘David, someone from your family will always be king in Israel.’
19 “But you must not turn away from me. You must not stop obeying the laws and commands I gave you. You must not serve and worship other gods. 20 If you do, I will take the Israelites out of my land, the land I gave them. And I will leave this Temple that I have made holy. All the nations will make fun of it and speak evil about it. 21 This Temple is honored now. But then, everyone who passes by will be surprised. They will say, ‘Why has the Lord done this terrible thing to this land and this Temple?’ 22 Then people will answer, ‘It’s because the Israelites left the Lord, the God their ancestors obeyed. He is the God who led them out of Egypt. But they accepted other gods and worshiped and served them. That is why the Lord brought this disaster on them.’”

The Dedication of the Temple(A)
7 When Solomon finished praying, fire(B) came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled(C) the temple.(D) 2 The priests could not enter(E) the temple of the Lord because the glory(F) of the Lord filled it. 3 When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying,
“He is good;
his love endures forever.”(G)
4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the Lord. 5 And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand head of cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the people dedicated the temple of God. 6 The priests took their positions, as did the Levites(H) with the Lord’s musical instruments,(I) which King David had made for praising the Lord and which were used when he gave thanks, saying, “His love endures forever.” Opposite the Levites, the priests blew their trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
7 Solomon consecrated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple of the Lord, and there he offered burnt offerings and the fat(J) of the fellowship offerings, because the bronze altar he had made could not hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the fat portions.
8 So Solomon observed the festival(K) at that time for seven days, and all Israel(L) with him—a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath(M) to the Wadi of Egypt.(N) 9 On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had celebrated(O) the dedication of the altar for seven days and the festival(P) for seven days more. 10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the Lord had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel.
The Lord Appears to Solomon(Q)
11 When Solomon had finished(R) the temple of the Lord and the royal palace, and had succeeded in carrying out all he had in mind to do in the temple of the Lord and in his own palace, 12 the Lord appeared(S) to him at night and said:
“I have heard your prayer and have chosen(T) this place for myself(U) as a temple for sacrifices.
13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain,(V) or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name,(W) will humble(X) themselves and pray and seek my face(Y) and turn(Z) from their wicked ways, then I will hear(AA) from heaven, and I will forgive(AB) their sin and will heal(AC) their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.(AD) 16 I have chosen(AE) and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.
17 “As for you, if you walk before me faithfully(AF) as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees(AG) and laws, 18 I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted(AH) with David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor(AI) to rule over Israel.’(AJ)
19 “But if you[a] turn away(AK) and forsake(AL) the decrees and commands I have given you[b] and go off to serve other gods and worship them, 20 then I will uproot(AM) Israel from my land,(AN) which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. I will make it a byword and an object of ridicule(AO) among all peoples. 21 This temple will become a heap of rubble. All[c] who pass by will be appalled(AP) and say,(AQ) ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’ 22 People will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them(AR)—that is why he brought all this disaster on them.’”
