²¹ And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with ^(A)shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.

^36 (A)And the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. ³⁷ Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and returned home and lived at ^(B)Nineveh. ³⁸ And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him down with the sword. And after they escaped into the land of ^(C)Ararat, ^(D)Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

¹⁵ Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave^[a] and free, ^(A)hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, ^16 (B)calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of ^(C)him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb,

²³ Immediately ^(A)an angel of the Lord struck him down, because ^(B)he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

⁴⁹ So it will be at ^(A)the end of the age. The angels will come out and ^(B)separate the evil from the righteous ^50 (C)and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place ^(D)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²² My God ^(A)sent his angel ^(B)and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless ^(C)before him; ^(D)and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”

Sennacherib's Fall

²¹ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,
