⁷ At that time Hanani^(A) the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied^(B) on the king of Aram and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand.

² Jehu^(A) the seer, the son of Hanani, went out to meet him and said to the king, “Should you help the wicked^(B) and love^[a] those who hate the Lord?^(C) Because of this, the wrath^(D) of the Lord is on you.

16 Then the word of the Lord came to Jehu^(A) son of Hanani^(B) concerning Baasha:

Woe to Those Who Rely on Egypt

¹² in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.^{(A) 13} And you also were included in Christ^(B) when you heard the message of truth,^(C) the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal,^(D) the promised Holy Spirit,^(E)

⁷ “Be strong and courageous.^(A) Do not be afraid or discouraged^(B) because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him.^{(C) 8} With him is only the arm of flesh,^(D) but with us^(E) is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.”^(F) And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.

³⁴ The other events of Jehoshaphat’s reign, from beginning to end, are written in the annals of Jehu^(A) son of Hanani, which are recorded in the book of the kings of Israel.

¹⁸ The Israelites were subdued on that occasion, and the people of Judah were victorious because they relied^(A) on the Lord, the God of their ancestors.
