⁵ ‘Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, and I chose no man as prince over my people Israel;

¹⁹ O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. ^(A)Delay not, ^(B)for your own sake, O my God, because ^(C)your city and ^(D)your people are called by your name.”

^16 (A)‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, ^(B)that my name might be there. ^(C)But I chose David to be over my people Israel.’

^15 (A)but my steadfast love will not depart from him, ^(B)as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. ^16 (C)And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me.^{[a] (D)}Your throne shall be established forever.’”

⁶ I have not lived in a house ^(A)since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about ^(B)in a tent for my dwelling. ⁷ In all places where ^(C)I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with ^(D)any of the judges^[a] of Israel, whom I commanded ^(E)to shepherd my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”’

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, ^(A)“You have done foolishly. ^(B)You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, with which he commanded you. For then the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. ¹⁴ But now ^(C)your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought out a man ^(D)after his own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince^[a] over his people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

²⁴ And Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him ^(A)whom the Lord has chosen? There is none like him among all the people.” And all the people shouted, ^(B)“Long live the king!”

¹¹ then to ^(A)the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, ^(B)your tithes and the contribution that you present, and all your finest vow offerings that you vow to the Lord.
