²¹     Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, and Ephraim on Manasseh;^(A)
    together they will turn against Judah.^(B)

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,
    his hand is still upraised.^(C)

⁶ You have rejected^(A) me,” declares the Lord.
    “You keep on backsliding.
So I will reach out^(B) and destroy you;
    I am tired of holding back.^(C)

¹⁹ Your wickedness will punish you;
    your backsliding^(A) will rebuke^(B) you.
Consider then and realize
    how evil and bitter^(C) it is for you
when you forsake^(D) the Lord your God
    and have no awe^(E) of me,”
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

⁵ The earth is defiled^(A) by its people;
    they have disobeyed^(B) the laws,
violated the statutes
    and broken the everlasting covenant.^(C)
6 Therefore a curse^(D) consumes the earth;
    its people must bear their guilt.
Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up,^(E)
    and very few are left.

⁹ The head of Ephraim is Samaria,^(A)
    and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son.
If you do not stand^(B) firm in your faith,^(C)
    you will not stand at all.’”^(D)

²⁸ But rebels and sinners^(A) will both be broken,
    and those who forsake^(B) the Lord will perish.^(C)
