⁸ The Ammonites ^(A)paid tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread even to the border of Egypt, for he became very strong.

¹¹ Some of the Philistines ^(A)brought Jehoshaphat presents and silver for tribute, and the Arabians also brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats.

^2 (A)And he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground. Two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites ^(B)became servants to David and ^(C)brought tribute.

³⁸ The younger also bore a son and called his name Ben-ammi.^{[a] (A)}He is the father of the Ammonites to this day.

²⁴ So his fame spread throughout all ^(A)Syria, and ^(B)they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and ^(C)pains, ^(D)those oppressed by demons, ^(E)those having seizures, and ^(F)paralytics, and he healed them.

Jehoshaphat's Prayer

20 After this ^(A)the Moabites and Ammonites, and with them some of the Meunites,^[a] came against Jehoshaphat for battle.

³¹ For he was ^(A)wiser than all other men, wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol, and his fame was in all the surrounding nations.

¹³ And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down 18,000 Edomites in ^(A)the Valley of Salt.

Saul Defeats the Ammonites

11 ^(A)Then Nahash the Ammonite went up and besieged ^(B)Jabesh-gilead, and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, ^(C)“Make a treaty with us, and we will serve you.”

¹⁵ and said to him, “Thus says Jephthah: ^(A)Israel did not take away the land of Moab or the land of the Ammonites, ¹⁶ but when they came up from Egypt, Israel went through the wilderness ^(B)to the Red Sea and ^(C)came to Kadesh. ^17 (D)Israel then sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Please let us pass through your land,’ ^(E)but the king of Edom would not listen. And they sent also to the king of Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel ^(F)remained at Kadesh.
