³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor in doing wickedly.

¹² Perhaps my father ^(A)will feel me, and I shall seem to be mocking him and bring ^(B)a curse upon myself and not a blessing.” ¹³ His mother said to him, ^(C)“Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, bring them to me.”

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, ^(A)“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge,

⁸ Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.” ⁹ And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given. ¹⁰ He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, ¹¹ and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.

^37 (A)Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

^15 (A)Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union?^[a] And what was the one God^[b] seeking?^{[c] (B)}Godly offspring. So guard yourselves^[d] in your spirit, and let none of you be ^(C)faithless to the wife of your youth.

²³ In those days also I saw the Jews ^(A)who had married women ^(B)of Ashdod, ^(C)Ammon, and ^(D)Moab. ²⁴ And half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah, but only the language of each people. ^25 (E)And I confronted them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair. ^(F)And I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves. ^26 (G)Did not Solomon king of Israel sin on account of such women? ^(H)Among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was ^(I)beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, foreign women made even him to sin. ²⁷ Shall we then listen to you and do all this great evil and ^(J)act treacherously against our God by marrying foreign women?”

⁴ So when he restored the money to his mother, his mother ^(A)took 200 pieces of silver and gave it to the silversmith, who made it into a carved image and a metal image. And it was in the house of Micah. ⁵ And the man Micah had a shrine, and he made ^(B)an ephod and ^(C)household gods, and ^(D)ordained^[a] one of his sons, who became his priest.

^6 (A)“If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or ^(B)the wife you embrace^[a] or your friend ^(C)who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ ^(D)which neither you nor your fathers have known, ⁷ some ^(E)of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, ⁸ you shall ^(F)not yield to him or listen to him, nor ^(G)shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him. ⁹ But you shall kill him. ^(H)Your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. ^10 (I)You shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
