2 Samuel 7:8-11

⁸Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:

⁹And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.

¹⁰Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,

¹¹And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the Lord telleth thee that he will make thee an house.

⁸“Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock,^(A) and appointed you ruler^(B) over my people Israel.^(C) ⁹I have been with you wherever you have gone,^(D) and I have cut off all your enemies from before you.^(E) Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth.^(F) ¹⁰And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant^(G) them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed.^(H) Wicked^(I) people will not oppress them anymore,^(J) as they did at the beginning ¹¹and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders^[a]^(K) over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies.^(L)
