12 (A)When your days are fulfilled and you (B)lie down with your fathers, (C)I will raise up one of your seed after you, who will come forth from [a]your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 (D)He shall build a house for My name, and (E)I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 (F)I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; (G)when he commits iniquity, I will reprove him with the rod of men and the strikes from the sons of men, 15 but My lovingkindness shall not be removed from him, (H)as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 (I)And your house and your kingdom shall [b]endure before [c]Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.”’”

“I have cut a covenant with (A)My chosen;
I have (B)sworn to David My [a]servant,
I will establish your (C)seed forever
And build up your (D)throne from generation to generation.” [b]Selah.

The (E)heavens will praise Your wonders, O Yahweh;
Your faithfulness also (F)in the assembly of the (G)holy ones.
For (H)who in the sky is comparable to Yahweh?
Who among the [c](I)sons of the mighty is like Yahweh,
A God (J)greatly dreaded in the council of the (K)holy ones,
And [d](L)fearsome above all those who are around Him?
O Yahweh God of hosts, (M)who is like You, O mighty Yah?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
You rule the swelling of the sea;
When its waves rise, You (N)still them.
10 You Yourself crushed [e](O)Rahab like one who is slain;
You (P)scattered Your enemies with Your strong arm.

11 The (Q)heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours;
The (R)world and its fullness, You have founded them.
12 The (S)north and the south, You have created them;
(T)Tabor and (U)Hermon (V)sing with joy at Your name.
13 You have a mighty arm;
Your hand is strong, Your (W)right hand is exalted.
14 (X)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
(Y)Lovingkindness and [f]truth go before You.
15 How blessed are the people who know the (Z)loud shout of joy!
O Yahweh, they walk in the (AA)light of Your face.
16 In (AB)Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17 For You are the beauty of (AC)their strength,
And by Your favor [g]our (AD)horn is exalted.
18 For our (AE)shield belongs to Yahweh,
[h]And our king to the (AF)Holy One of Israel.

19 Formerly You spoke in vision to Your [i]holy [j]ones,
And said, “I have bestowed help to a (AG)mighty one;
I have exalted one (AH)chosen from the people.
20 I have (AI)found David My [k]servant;
With My holy (AJ)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (AK)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (AL)strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not [l]deceive him,
Nor the [m](AM)son of unrighteousness afflict him.
23 But I shall (AN)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 My (AO)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his (AP)horn will be exalted.
25 I shall also set his hand (AQ)on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are (AR)my Father,
My God, and the (AS)rock of my salvation.’
27 I also shall make him My (AT)firstborn,
The (AU)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My (AV)lovingkindness I will keep for him forever,
And My (AW)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 So I will set up his (AX)seed to endure forever
And his (AY)throne (AZ)as the days of heaven.

30 “If his sons (BA)forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31 If they profane My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32 Then I will punish their transgression with the (BB)rod
And their iniquity with striking.
33 But I will not break off (BC)My lovingkindness from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 My (BD)covenant I will not profane,
Nor will I (BE)alter what comes forth from My lips.
35 [n]Once I have (BF)sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His (BG)seed shall endure forever
And his (BH)throne (BI)as the sun before Me.
37 It shall be established forever (BJ)like the moon,
And the (BK)witness in the sky is faithful.” [o]Selah.

38 But You have (BL)cast off and (BM)rejected,
You have been full of wrath [p]against Your (BN)anointed.
39 You have (BO)spurned the covenant of Your [q]slave;
You have (BP)profaned (BQ)his crown to the ground.
40 You have (BR)broken down all his walls;
You have (BS)beset his strongholds with ruin.
41 (BT)All who pass along the way plunder him;
He has become a (BU)reproach to his neighbors.
42 You have (BV)exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have (BW)made all his enemies be glad.
43 You also turn back the edge of his sword
And have (BX)not made him arise in battle.
44 You have made his [r](BY)splendor to cease
And cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have (BZ)shortened the days of his youth;
You have (CA)wrapped him up with shame. Selah.

46 (CB)How long, O Yahweh?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your (CC)wrath burn like fire?
47 (CD)Remember [s]what my span of life is;
For what (CE)vanity [t]You have created all the sons of men!
48 What man can live and not (CF)see death?
Can he (CG)provide his soul escape from the [u]power of Sheol? Selah.

49 Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord,
Which You (CH)swore to David in Your faithfulness?
50 Remember, O Lord, the (CI)reproach of Your [v]slaves;
[w]How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,
51 With which (CJ)Your enemies have reproached, O Yahweh,
With which they have reproached the footsteps of (CK)Your anointed.

52 (CL)Blessed be Yahweh forever!
Amen and Amen.

  1. Psalm 132:11 Or stomach; lit womb

For a (A)child will be born to us, a (B)son will be given to us;
And the (C)government will [a]rest (D)on His shoulders;
And His name will be called (E)Wonderful Counselor, (F)Mighty God,
Eternal (G)Father, Prince of (H)Peace.
There will be (I)no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
On the (J)throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with (K)justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
(L)The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will accomplish this.

Yahweh’s Anger with Israel’s Arrogance

The Lord sends a [b]message against Jacob,
And it falls on Israel.
And all the people know it,
That is, (M)Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria,
Saying in lofty pride and in (N)arrogance of heart:
10 “The bricks have fallen down,
But we will (O)rebuild with cut stones;
The sycamores have been cut in pieces,
But we will replace them with cedars.”
11 Therefore Yahweh exalts against them adversaries from (P)Rezin
And incites their enemies,
12 The Arameans on the east and the (Q)Philistines on the west;
And they (R)devour Israel with [c]gaping jaws.
(S)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn back,
And His hand is still stretched out.

13 Yet the people (T)do not turn back to Him who struck them,
Nor do they (U)seek Yahweh of hosts.
14 So Yahweh cuts off (V)head and tail from Israel,
Both palm branch and bulrush (W)in a single day.
15 The head is (X)the elder and the [d]highly respected man,
And the prophet who teaches (Y)falsehood is the tail.
16 (Z)For those who guide this people are leading them astray;
And those who are guided by them are [e]brought to confusion.
17 Therefore the Lord (AA)is not glad in their choice men,
(AB)Nor does He have compassion on their [f]orphans or their widows;
For every one of them is (AC)godless and an (AD)evildoer,
And every (AE)mouth is speaking wicked foolishness.
(AF)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn back,
And His hand is still stretched out.

18 (AG)For wickedness burns like a fire;
It consumes briars and thorns;
It even sets the thickets of the forest aflame,
And they roll upward in a column of smoke.
19 By the (AH)fury of Yahweh of hosts the (AI)land is burned up,
And the (AJ)people are like fuel for the fire;
No (AK)man spares his brother.
20 [g]They slice off what is on the right hand but still are (AL)hungry,
And [h]they eat what is on the left hand but they are not satisfied;
Each of them eats the (AM)flesh of his own arm.
21 Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh,
(AN)And together they are against Judah.
(AO)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn back,
And His hand is still stretched out.
