⁵ But the military force of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook him in the plains of Jericho and all his military force was scattered from him. ⁶ Then ^(A)they seized the king and ^(B)brought him up to the king of Babylon at ^(C)Riblah, and they spoke their judgment on him. ^7 (D)And they slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes; then he ^(E)blinded the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him with bronze fetters and brought him to Babylon.

¹⁸ Then the captain of the guard took ^(A)Seraiah the chief priest and ^(B)Zephaniah the second priest, with the three ^[a]doorkeepers of the temple. ¹⁹ And from the city he took one official who was overseer of the men of war, and ^(C)five ^[b]of the king’s advisers who were found in the city; and the ^[c]scribe of the commander of the army who mustered the people of the land; and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the city. ²⁰ And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them and led them to the king of Babylon at ^(D)Riblah. ²¹ Then the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. ^(E)So Judah went into exile from its land.

¹⁷ Then King Zedekiah sent and took him out; and in his palace the king ^(A)secretly asked him and said, “Is there a ^(B)word from Yahweh?” And Jeremiah said, “There is!” Then he said, “You will be ^(C)given into the hand of the king of Babylon!”

⁵ But the military force of the ^(A)Chaldeans pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the ^[a](B)plains of Jericho; and they took him and brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at ^(C)Riblah in the land of Hamath, and he spoke judgment on him. ⁶ Then the ^(D)king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah ^(E)before his eyes at Riblah; the king of Babylon also slaughtered all the ^(F)nobles of Judah. ⁷ He then ^(G)blinded Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him in ^(H)fetters of bronze to bring him to ^(I)Babylon. ⁸ The Chaldeans also ^(J)burned with fire the house of the king and the houses of the people, and they ^(K)tore down the walls of Jerusalem. ⁹ And as for the rest of the people who remained in the city, the ^[b](L)defectors who had gone over to him and ^(M)the rest of the people who remained, ^(N)Nebuzaradan the ^(O)captain of the bodyguard took them away into exile in Babylon.

⁹ Then they seized the king and ^(A)brought him up to the king of Babylon at ^(B)Riblah in the land of ^(C)Hamath, and he ^[a]spoke his judgment on him.
